The Consequences of Disobeying God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 5)

5/12/2024
Hebrews 3 contains another warning about the consequences of disobeying God. The author warns the Hebrews not to disregard the sufficiency of Christ. This came from the generation of Israelites who left Egypt but never entered the Promised Land because of disbelief and disobedience. The Israelites disbelieved God, so they disobeyed God, forfeiting the promises of God! They had enough faith to get out of Egypt but not enough to get into the Promised Land. Because they had hard heads and hearts, they experienced the consequences of disobeying God. A rebellious heart is seen not only in animosity toward God but also in apathy toward God. Apathy leads to inaction, but faith is obedience in motion. Your belief in God is evidenced by obedience to God. Your words reflect what you believe. Rebellion brings death. Repentance brings life. Choose Jesus. Choose life! Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares how we can avoid the consequences of disobeying God. God’s Plan for Man | A Study of Hebrews (Part 4)

5/5/2024
Do you wonder if God has a plan for mankind despite sin? In Hebrews 2, the author draws people’s attention to why God created humans. God’s plan for man is to reflect His image. God doesn’t make broken things. He designed us to be crowned with glory, beauty, and splendor. However, that image is broken because of sin. The Bible doesn’t waste any time in telling us why we are in the predicament we’re in today. 1.) The role of man. We were made to reflect God’s image and rule God’s creation. God has given us a purpose to rule creation. 2.) The restriction of sin. Everyone knows what it is like to live under the consequences of sin. We were made to reflect God’s image and rule God’s creation, but that was broken. 3.) The restoration of Jesus. Jesus is the only one who can restore our brokenness. He is the better Savior. God’s plan for man is to restore our ability to reflect His image. Join Pastor Chad Glover as he shares about how we can be put back together in Christ to reflect the glory of our Maker and Savior. The Danger of Drifting from God | A Study of Hebrews (Part 3)

4/28/2024
Hebrews 2 begins with a warning for those who are drifting from God. These ancient Hebrews had heard the good news that Jesus died for their sins and rose again. They hadn’t entirely rejected the gospel but hadn’t yet responded to it. They were drifting from God and in danger of drifting past their opportunity for salvation. The currents of the world will carry you away from God if you are not anchored to Jesus. Many people don’t reject the gospel. They just fail to respond to it. Whether you reject the gospel or fail to respond, the outcome is the same. Those who drift away from God and do not respond to the gospel will die forever lost without Christ. We need to get anchored to Christ because He died to save us from sin’s penalty so we can live eternally. Three reasons to get anchored to Christ: The work of the cross. The wrath of God. The witness of apostles. Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares the dangers of drifting from God and how believers can stay anchored to Jesus. Jesus Is Better Than the Angels | A Study of Hebrews (Part 2)

4/14/2024
Angels worship Jesus because they are mere servants while He is Sovereign. They are messengers and ministers, but Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is better than angels because while they live to serve, Jesus lives to save! 3 reasons why Jesus is better than the angels: 1.) Jesus is better because of His excellent name. Christ’s name deserves better acclaim because He died for our sins, rose again, and is now seated in heaven as King of kings! 2.) Jesus is better because of His eternal fame. The term “firstborn” doesn’t refer to Christ’s birth but rather His rank. Angels worship Him because He is superior in authority. 3.) Jesus is better because of His everlasting claim. As Creator, He has an everlasting claim over all creation because He is eternal in His deity, monarchy, and mercy. Jesus is better than anything else in which we might put our hope. Jesus Is the Perfect Sacrifice | A Study of Hebrews (Part 1)

4/7/2024
The theme of Hebrews is the complete sufficiency and the absolute supremacy of Jesus Christ. It was written to strengthen the Hebrews’ wavering faith and prove that Jesus is the One! Jesus is the perfect sacrifice because He was completely sinless. He became a Man to become our sacrificial lamb. The Son of God became flesh for three reasons: 1.) To express God’s Word. God said it. The prophets wrote it. But Jesus came to show it! You cannot separate the Word of God from the Son of God. To grow in your relationship with God’s Son, you must grow in your relationship with God’s Word. The Bible is the written Word, but Jesus is the Living Word. 2.) To execute God’s Will. It was Christ who executed God’s will at creation and God’s will for redemption. Jesus Christ is the perfect sacrifice because He took all our sins on Him to make a way for us to have a personal relationship with God. 3.) To exalt God’s Worth. Christ did more than bring God’s revelation—He is God revealed. He is worthy of our worship. All of me for all of Him! An Eyewitness Account of Jesus’ Crucifixion | Resurrection Sunday

3/31/2024
People claim that Jesus’ resurrection didn’t happen, that maybe Jesus didn’t die, and that He couldn’t be fully man and God. However, an eyewitness account of Jesus’ crucifixion is recorded in the gospels, proving the validity of His death and resurrection. This eyewitness of Jesus’ crucifixion is from the perspective of a Roman centurion who presided over the crucifixion. This man had crucified countless convicted criminals, but he saw something different in Jesus. While the soldiers scourged, tortured, mocked, beat, and spit on Jesus, He remained silent. He made no defense for Himself. The centurion saw that He wasn’t controlled by anger and bitterness. Jesus cried, bled, and suffered as a man, but He did not fight back or curse the Romans. He was strong but gentle, like a lamb going willingly to the slaughter. After watching Jesus give up His life on the cross, the centurion realized that He truly was the Son of God. When Jesus rose from the dead, His identity as the Jewish Messiah was undeniable. Jesus Took Our Place | Love on Display Part 4

3/24/2024
The Bible goes to great lengths to expose our need for a Savior. We are sentenced to spiritual death, but Jesus took our place when He died on the cross. We see our need for a Savior illustrated through Barabbas. Three steps to recognize our need for a Savior: 1. We need a substitute. Barabbas is a picture of all of us spiritually. We are dead in our sin apart from Christ. 2. Jesus is the substitute. Jesus brings redemption, forgiveness, and freedom to sinners. His sacrifice is the only way we can be released from our spiritual death sentence. 3. Choose Jesus Christ. We either choose Jesus, or we choose someone else to be our Savior. Only He can stand in our place and bring salvation. Jesus took our place, so we did not receive the punishment we deserved, and in doing so, He lavished grace upon us. How to Love Like Jesus | Love on Display (Part 3)

3/17/2024
Love is not something we merely say; it’s something we must do! Learning how to love like Jesus requires humility and selflessness as we imitate the example He set for us. The 3 characteristics that teach us how to love like Jesus: 1.) Christ’s love was unselfish. The Creator of the Universe got down on his knees and did the work of the “lowliest” of servants—washing the feet of His disciples. 2.) Christ’s love was unconditional. Even though Jesus knew that Judas was about to betray Him—He washed His feet anyway. He showed love to Him unconditionally. 3.) Christ’s love was undeniable. The love of Christ is undeniable because His love is demonstrated. Love is not revealed simply by what we say but rather by what we show. 3 Acts of Worship | Love on Display Part 2

3/10/2024
We were created to worship our Creator, and our worship does not find its fulfillment in anything other than Jesus. Acts of worship can be costly. They can cost us time, money, and other resources, but these sacrifices fulfill the definition of worship: to give all of yourself for all of Jesus. 3 examples of acts of worship: 1.) Serving Jesus is an act of worship. 2.) Sitting with Jesus is an act of worship. 3.) Sacrificing for Jesus is an act of worship. The Rocks Will Cry Out | Love on Display (Part 1)

3/3/2024
Apart from Christ, we are born spiritually stone dead. It’s Christ who makes us spiritually alive—living stones! 1 Peter 2:5, “…you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” As living stones, we can worship God in 2 ways: 1.) We put His love on display through giving generously. 2.) We put His love on display through sharing the gospel openly. Jesus alone has the power to give us life. If the rocks could cry out His praises, they would never stop testifying about who Jesus is and what He has done. The Christian’s Role in Government

2/25/2024
Why should Christians be involved in government? Godly people engaged in government influence godly outcomes. Examples of Christians in government abound, including Joseph, Daniel, and Nehemiah, who brought godly outcomes even in ungodly governing systems. In Matthew 5:13, Jesus calls us to be the salt of the earth. Because the Church is no longer “salty,” our society is decaying morally and spiritually. How can Christians be the salt of the earth? By seeking first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). As Christians, our allegiance must first be to the Kingdom of God and the multi-ethnic family of God. If we seek the Kingdom of God first, we will think biblically, not merely politically. The Church needs to repent of political idolatry, compromise morally, and spiritual apathy. Only then will the Church again become “salty” – the moral conscience of society. Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he shares biblical examples of Christians in government and practical ways we can be “the salt of the earth” in politics. The Heart of a King: The call of a leader

2/11/2024
Leadership Principle: The call of every leader is to prepare and pass the mantle of leadership to the next generation. In 1 Kings chapter 2, David sets the example of leaving a legacy for the people behind him. To pass the mantle of leadership to the next generation, we must give them 3 things: 1.) Spiritual tenacity. Spiritual tenacity demands a warrior’s mentality – the opposite of spiritual apathy and passivity. When we fail to pass the mantle of leadership and spiritual tenacity on to the next generation, they start to walk in spiritual apathy. 2.) Spiritual integrity. Spiritual integrity means living obediently to the Word of God and the God of the Word. As we pass the mantle of leadership, we must teach the next generation that the blessing of God comes only through obedience to God. 3.) Spiritual legacy. Our legacy should be a family tree spiritually that stretches clear into eternity. We should all have a family tree spiritually that leads the next generation to the Lord Jesus! The Heart of a King: The Confidence of a Leader

2/4/2024
Leadership principle: Kingdom leaders are consecrated to their cause because their confidence is in God. God’s calling is for us to build an altar with our lives. He wants us to consecrate our lives to Him. You’re consecrated to that which you’re willing to give your life for. God’s calling is for us to live a life of sacrifice. There is no such thing as a cheap sacrifice. A faith that costs nothing will accomplish nothing. David refused to bring an offering to God that cost him nothing. Every part of our life belongs to Jesus. Following God’s calling for our lives demands more than a commitment. It demands a cross. We must be consecrated to Him if we are going to follow Him. It is not too much that we should give our lives as an offering for the one who offered His life for us! The Heart of a King: The Character of a Leader

1/28/2024
Leadership Principle: The most effective leaders lead with a “limp.” The strongest leaders have learned they’re too weak to lean on themselves. They have learned they must rely on God. Developing the character of a leader often requires a time of character refinement and growth in difficult situations. God grew David’s character in a cave so he could handle the pressures of the crown. How does God refine the character of a leader in a cave? 1.) In the darkness, God shines the light on the hidden idols of our hearts. 2.) In the darkness, God shines the light on our pride that tries to hide. 3.) In the darkness, God redeems us from self-sufficiency and offers us refuge and protection. 4.) In the darkness, you discover what it means to be a worshiper. The character of a leader is often produced in dark and lonely places. God was preparing David to wear a crown through the darkness of a cave! The Heart of a King: Building Your Inner Circle of Friends

1/21/2024
Leadership Principle: The Law of the “Inner Circle” says those closest to the leader define the success of the leader. Choose your inner circle of friends prayerfully, carefully, and wisely! 3 questions to answer as you choose your inner circle of friends: 1.) Do they have a heart for God? Jonathan’s heart connected to David’s heart because they were both men after “God’s own heart.” 2.) Do they have a heart for the vision? Jonathan recognized what God was doing in David’s life. He gave him his royal robe and sword, recognizing David’s anointing as the next king of Israel. 3.) Do they have a heart for you? Jonathan and David made a covenant with each other that extended to their families and their children, promising to always be for each other and never against each other. The Heart of a King: Defeating the Giants in Your Life

1/14/2024
Leadership Principle: As a leader, your courage doesn’t come from a lack of fear but a lack of self! A giant represents anything that comes against what God is trying to do in and through your life. The giants you let remain in your life will try to rule. How to Defeat the Giants in Your Life: 1.) Recognize your enemy. 2.) Remember who fights for you. 3.) Respond by faith. Jesus came to set the captive free, but Satan desires to take the free into captivity. Since we are not strong enough to fight independently, we need a Savior. The Heart of a King: Lessons on Leadership from the Bible

1/7/2024
Leadership Principle: Your character, not your accomplishment, is the most important part of your leadership. God rejected Saul’s leadership as king because he cared more about his fame than God’s name. Studying lessons on leadership from the Bible, we see that God cares most about our hearts because our hearts define our inner character (See 1 Samuel 13:13-14). Your identity inwardly defines your activity outwardly. We can learn valuable lessons about leadership from the Bible by examining the life of King David. David’s predecessor, Saul, looked like a strong leader, warrior, and king. But he was very cowardly. What did God see in David’s heart? David had a heart of humility. David had a heart of fidelity. David had a heart that longed to be holy. David had a heart that beat courageously. God has a plan for you to be a kingdom leader in some capacity. Like David, you have been anointed with the Spirit of God for leadership in the Kingdom of God if you have received the Son of God! Like David, God is calling us to worship, and He’s calling us to war.
