The Ohio State football team is all in on a championship or bust mantra for the 2024 college football season! The Big Ten and the SEC are separating themselves from the NCAA as the association is being sued for billions of dollars for suppressing athletes' revenues. The power conferences are quickly designing a revenue sharing plan in order to appease the plaintiffs in the House vs NCAA lawsuit scheduled to hit the courtroom in January of 2025. Frankly, this is something the NCAA should have gotten ahead of years ago. END OF NCAA? Some estimates show the NCAA could lose over 4 billion dollars in this antitrust case. Athletic directors are being told to budget 15-20 million dollars next year to pay of a verdict if a jury rules against the NCAA. Some predict this could be the end of the NCAA. Florida State could join the expanded Big 10 sooner than later according to Florida State athletic director Michael Alford. While speaking recently to FSU Alumni and Boosters at an event in Chicago, Alford hinted he may be in the area a lot more beginning this summer. It should be noted that the Big 10 offices were just a few miles away in Rosemont, Illinois. LAWSUIT CITY Florida State and Clemson are embroiled in separate lawsuits attempting to extract themselves from the ACC so they can join more lucrative conferences like the Big 10 or SEC. Hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake and everything hinges on these court cases. Or a settlement could be in the works. Stay tuned! Nebraska Football coach Matt Rhule has an absolute rising star at quarterback in 5-star true freshman Dylan Raiola. We were cautious about starting true freshman at Power 4 schools. Then we saw Raiola perform in the annual Nebraska Spring Football game in Lincoln this weekend. He is the real deal! USC Trojan football coach Lincoln Riley says Trojans quarterback Miller Moss has been 'Lights Out' this spring. Michigan football held its annual Maize and Blue spring game Saturday and former walk-on and little-used senior Davis Warren may have walked off with the starting job. The NCAA sanctioned Michigan Football for its involvement in Burger-Gate when former head coach Jim Harbaugh met with recruits during an NCAA non-visit period during the Covid pandemic. Big Ten expansion is never far from our college football thoughts and there are two simultaneous court cases taking place between Florida State and the ACC. They are suing each other regarding the ACC and their media grant of TV rights deal. Florida State wants out of the deal and the ACC wants to enforce it. Whatever happens during these court cases will directly affect the future of college football and future Big 10 expansion. We will explain where we are in these two cases. A college football Super Conference idea is gaining momentum but it is nothing like anything you have imagined before. The idea would also blow up the Big Ten as we know it. One thing is for certain; with Name Image and Likeness and Transfer Portal traffic and billions and billions of TV dollars floating around, there are many "experts" that are certain college football cannot maintain its current hectic pace and survive as is. SUPER CONFERENCE At Locked on Big 10 we do think more change is coming to college football and our Conference. But we have always predicted a reasonable path to some sort of Super Conference or Super Conferences alignment. To some extent it is inevitable. But some of these ideas from others are crazy. And the people that cannot make up their minds on how to execute a 12 team playoff format vs a 14 team playoff format are the ones planning the future of college football. Yikes! Maybe we need to volunteer our services to be the Commissioner or Czar of college football. Also, since college basketball is over we need to turn our attention to college football, specifically, spring football games begin this weekend and we need to keep our eyes on some developing storylines. Purdue lost the NCAA Men's College Basketball Championship to UConn Monday night by a score of 75-60. Zach Edey scored 37 points in his final game as a Boilermaker. It was their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament National Championship game since 1969. For Connecticut, it was the school's 6th national title as they became the first school since Florida in 2006 and 2007 to win back to back national championships in men's college basketball. WOMEN'S RATINGS!! We will find out in a few hours, but we are betting for the first time ever, the women's college basketball championship may have earned higher ratings than the men's college basketball championship. Sunday, during South Carolina's win over Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, an average of 18.7 million people tuned in. At its peak 24 million people watched. Wow! A day after we learned John Calipari is leaving Kentucky basketball we also learned that he reportedly talked to the Ohio State Buckeyes about their coaching job vacancy. The Purdue Boilermakers and UConn Huskies battle tonight for the NCAA Tournament Championship for men's college basketball. Both teams are led by 7 footers in the paint. Purdue basketball center Zach Edey will lead the Boilermakers against Huskies center Donovan Clingan. Both are awesome players. It promises to be a throwback to the glory days when big men dominated the game of college basketball. Edey is a two time National Player of the Year and Clingan is playing so well NBA teams cannot wait to get their hands on him. He is more athletic than Edey and can take his game outside. But Edey is an unmovable, unstoppable force inside. CAITLIN CLARK Meanwhile the great career of Caitlin Clark comes to an end as the Iowa Hawkeyes came up short in the women's national championship vs the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks Sunday. Clark and her legacy will be debated for years because she broke every individual scoring record along the way but finished 0-2 in national championships. There will always be those who say you need championship rings to be considered the greatest ever. But two things cannot be denied. First, Clark brought more people to the game than any other player before her. And she was the greatest player we've ever seen at Locked on Big 10. Congrats to her on a great career and we look forward to her career continuing in the WNBA.
