There is a LOT of plot to cover in the book. And it felt like when you have aliens who mate in triads with 2 peens each, you really should just get to the smut? Especially since it started out with some mutual cuddling and wet dreams, and then things slowed down a bit. The entire 3rd act really felt like it should have been a sequel to the first book, vs complicating the story.
