Deceptive First Looks

Comics are a combination of words and art. You need both. You can flip through a book or look at its cover and get a good first impression. A lot of the times, however, that can be deceptive. You need to dig in and read the combination of art and words to get the art in its proper context to enjoy it. This works both ways -- some very cool art tells the story very poorly.

There is no singular alternative to Comixology. There is, however, an alternative for European albums. It's Izneo.com and you should sign up for it today. They have a subscription plan and you can even buy albums through their app.

Defending Comixology? WTF?

I'm sure several of you think the title of this podcast should be "Defunding Comixology," because you think it's what Amazon has done.
I'm taking the opposite opinion on this one. Amazon is hurting Comixology in the short term for a long term benefit. They are providing focus, but the transition will be a rough one.

Goal: Belgian Citizenship

Belgium has a new passport that features Belgian comic characters like Largo Winch, Lucky Luke, Tintin, and the Smurfs. Want!
This is my excuse to reach for an honorary Belgian citizenship without the hassle of learning a new language or, you know, actually moving to the country. I think I found an angle on this impossible mission. I'll explain it in this podcast.

I received a comment recently that made fun of the way I pronounced a Belgian creators' name. It made me think about pronunciations. For as hard as I try to get it right, I'm always fighting my natural American accent instincts...
One quick correction to this episode: The hockey player's name I was thinking of was Mark Messier. It's not the same as Jean-Claude Mézières. But it's close!
