Arts & Culture Podcasts

G’day! We’re Katie, Paul and Jasper Guerin from Queensland’s Gold Coast. We’ve been traveling full time around Australia as a family for over 5 years in our Toyota Landcruiser 79 series and Zone RV Sojourn off road caravan. In September 2019 we packed up our lives and hit the road for full time travel around Australia. After a 4 year IVF journey to create our family and long hours spent working our corporate roles we started to wonder if there was a better way. After Jasper was born our perception of what really mattered changed and we realised our most precious commodity was time. We wanted to create more time together as a family, and spend our days sharing experiences and making memories to last a lifetime. What seemed like a crazy idea at the time set in motion a 2 year plan to pack up our lives, downsize our ‘stuff’ and explore this great country of ours traveling Australia full time in a caravan. It is the best decision we ever made, and over 5 years and over 180,000km later we are still loving traveling this incredible country and living in our tiny home on wheels. Each week we produce an episode of our Travel Australia series for our YouTube Channel and free to air television (Channel 31 Melbourne and Channel 44 Adelaide and new in 2025 SKY TV New Zealand), as well as a weekly Podcast that showcases destinations, experiences, RV Industry News and Special Guests that share their journey around Australia! If you are planning on road tripping Australia, are dreaming of tackling your own ‘Big Lap’ or are just looking for inspiration to get out there on weekends or school holidays, we’d love you to travel with us and experience the best this country has to offer! www.thefeelgoodfamily.com SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel so you don’t miss an episode! www.youtube.com/thefeelgoodfamily - New video every Tuesday evening. Zone RV Update: Where Things Stand and What Comes Next + is Airlie Beach worth visiting?

1/23/2026
Send us a text In this episode of the Travel Australia Podcast, we share an honest update on the current Zone RV situation — where things are at right now, what we know, what we don’t, and what it could mean for us personally after years on the road. It’s not speculation or commentary, just a grounded conversation about change, uncertainty, and navigating a moment that many in the caravan industry are watching closely. From there, we shift gears and continue our journey north to Airlie Beach, Queensland — the gateway to the Whitsundays — chatting about why it remains such a popular travel base and why getting back on the road, exploring great destinations and focusing on what’s ahead still matters. If you’re planning a Whitsundays trip — or wondering whether Airlie Beach lives up to the hype — this episode is for you. 📍 Watch on YouTube: - https://youtu.be/so5zong_zAA?si=dYee3WPOcAwHK57I As a massive thank you to our podcast listeners we’re offering a 50% discount on RV First Aid! Testing The LC 300 In Extreme Tropical Heat + The Rainforest Camp Where Cassowaries Roam Free

11/28/2025
Send us a text Cassowaries stole the cheese and the show, but the real suspense came from a 37-degree towing day that finally put our LandCruiser 300 to the test. We headed to a tiny tropical gem—Ettie Bay—where rainforest brushes the sand, nippers train under the red and yellow, and a modest fish and chip shop serves Spanish mackerel good enough to plan lunch around. It’s the kind of place that feels untouched: tight beachfront sites, a fenced playground in view of your awning, and day visitors swinging in hammocks between the palms. It’s also the kind of place that demands respect—stinger nets, seasonal jellyfish, croc sightings, and cassowaries that will happily admire their reflection in your shiny 4WD. Between swims and sunset patrols, we built our favourite warm-weather ritual: Facos. Think soft tortillas, crisp salsa, pickled heat, and a burst of local mango folded around fresh crumbed Spanish Mackerel. Stocking up at a roadside stall outside Innisfail turned lunch into a celebration of pineapple-sweet air and sticky mango fingers. It’s fast, fresh, kid-friendly, and exactly what beach camping calls for after a morning of sand and salt. Then we turned to the data everyone keeps asking for. After six months and nearly 20,000 kilometres towing a 3.6-tonne family bunk van, we share temps, gearing, and upgrades that matter. With Just Autos tuning onboard, a ScanGauge watching coolant and transmission temps (and a plan to add EGT), we saw 85–87°C on regular days, 92–94°C in the heat, and 102°C on steep climbs in a lower gear—no alarms, no fade, no drama. Seventh gear for a 1:1 ratio keeps the transmission happy; dropping gears on hills manages load and heat. We also cover weight balance, stability, and the importance of booking services ahead with trusted partners like Cutler Diesel Performance in Townsville. All of this ties back to a simple truth: choose curiosity over comfort. Wild places reward the prepared traveller, good food elevates simple nights, and real-world data beats internet hot takes every time. If you’re weighing up the Geelong Caravan and Adventure Leisure Fest, we explain why a $15 ticket can be the most efficient way to compare rigs, tech, and trends in one hit. Love the show? Follow, share with a mate planning their lap, and leave a review with your best beach meal tip or towing question—we’ll feature our favourites next week. Chasing Paradise While Weighing The Cost Of Safety On Australia’s Roads

11/21/2025
Send us a text A tropical creek you can actually drink from, a camp kitchen by the water, and paddocks lined with rambutan and mangosteen trees—Paradise Camps lived up to its name and then some. We set up under the palms, met the hosts who made it feel like home, and used this Hipcamp haven as a launchpad for Babinda’s best: the legendary bakery, a small but rich community museum, and short drives to Josephine Falls and the dramatic, cautionary beauty of Babinda Boulders. No crocs in the creek, just cold, clear water that wakes you up and reminds you why Far North Queensland is a bucket-list region. Between swims and bakery runs, we opened a bigger conversation: should towing large caravans in Australia require a licence or endorsement? With more people on the road and heavier rigs than ever, the accident data is moving in the wrong direction. We break down the pros and cons—safety gains, clearer standards, insurer incentives versus added costs, complexity, and the risk of red tape. Our view leans toward education first: short, practical towing courses that demystify weights, turning geometry, braking distances, and tyre management. Know your GVM, GCM, and tow ball weight. Get weighed in combination. Slow down. These habits build confidence and save lives, whether you’re cruising the Bruce Highway or easing down a slim cane-field road. We also talk family on the move. Jasper picked up the Barefoot Investor kids’ book again and it clicked—goals, saving, and small business ideas to fund the bigger dreams we won’t buy for him. Pair that with the daily lessons of full-time travel and you get a practical education that most classrooms never touch: money sense, planning, and reading the road for real. If you love the idea of a hipcamp that blends paradise with easy access to hikes, swims, and classic country-town eats, this one should top your list. If this story brightened your day or made you rethink how you tow, tap follow, share it with a mate, and leave a quick review. Your note helps other travellers find safer roads and better campsites across Australia. 📍 Watch on YouTube: - https://youtu.be/bUuvpGQtytk?si=SQGBEfStQei4bFtX As a massive thank you to our podcast listeners we’re offering a 50% discount on RV First Aid! Tropical North Queensland: Our Top 5 Stay & Play Favourites!

11/14/2025
Send us a text Planning a Tropical North Queensland escape that actually delivers on wonder, value, and ease? We’ve mapped a five-stop itinerary that blends wild rainforest, oceanfront camping, family-friendly resort energy, and a bucket-list day on the Great Barrier Reef. From a humble farm stay near cane fields to a manicured palm-lined village with a world-class pier, we share what to book, what it costs, and how to make every hour count. We kick off at Newell Beach Farm Stay, a low-cost, pet friendly gem minutes from a classic palm-framed shoreline and an easy launch point for the Daintree. Think boardwalks, butterflies, cassowary sightings at a safe distance, and simple treats like Daintree Ice Cream. Then it’s Ellis Beach, where you can camp on the sand and drive the spectacular Captain Cook Highway to Hook-A-Barra for accessible, catch-and-release barramundi thrills that work for newcomers and keen anglers alike. If “set and forget” is your style, Cairns Coconut brings resort-level fun to a caravan park: pools, splash zones, mini golf, movies, and more, with tour bookings at reception. For a quieter reset, Creek’s Edge Park at Mossman offers minimal sites, a clear-swimming creek, friendly hosts, and a true jungle trek to a private waterfall that feels like a secret chapter in your travel story. We wrap at NRMA Palm Cove Holiday Park—big sites, a fresh resort pool, and that iconic foreshore—then head offshore with Reef Magic to Moore Reef. Expect five hours on the outer reef, semi-submersible views, guided snorkelling, all gear provided, and marine biologists who turn curiosity into new favourites. We’ve also included a practical RV summer checklist so your aircon, fridge ventilation, batteries, tyres, and spare keys are ready before peak holiday chaos. Fewer breakdowns mean more reef time, more rainforest hush, and more chances to watch the kids light up when the fish hits the line. Love the journey and want more like this? Follow the show, share it with a mate planning a Queensland road trip, and leave a quick review so others can find us. What’s your must-do in Tropical North Queensland? We’d love to hear it. Campfires, Cookbooks, and Cruisers: Our Chat with Harry Fisher - Fire to Fork

5/16/2025
Send us a text Our discovery of Lakeview Hip Camp in Beachmere is exactly why we love exploring close to home. Just 45 minutes from Brisbane's CBD, this 50-acre property offers lakefront camping with direct water access, provided kayaks and paddleboards, and thoughtful amenities including a playground, games area, and campfire pits. At around $35 per night, it's a bargain escape that doesn't require a long journey. The highlight of our episode is our conversation with Harry Fisher from Fire to Fork. His story of transitioning from corporate finance to Australia's premier campfire cooking expert during COVID lockdowns is nothing short of inspiring. Harry shares how filming simple cooking videos on Broome beaches led to bestselling cookbooks, massive YouTube success, and a completely transformed life. His practical advice for fire cooking novices (treat it like a barbecue and start with liquid-rich dishes) had us eager to expand beyond our trusty campfire baked potatoes. Harry's mouthwatering miso fish recipe and tales of his modified Land Cruiser 300 (with a jaw-dropping 1,330Nm of torque) left us inspired and hungry for more adventures. As we wrapped up, we reflected on a powerful reminder that resonates with so many families: "You only get 18 summers with your kids." What adventures are you putting off today that could become tomorrow's treasured memories? Curious about cooking over fire or looking for your next weekend escape? The pool bar is calling: Our stay at Australia's luxury RV destination + special guests Our Australia Trip

4/7/2025
Send us a text Luxury meets adventure at Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, where traditional camping transforms into an all-inclusive vacation experience that's dividing the caravanning community. We dive deep into what makes this Queensland destination arguably Australia's most expensive campground, with sites reaching a jaw-dropping $1,669 per week during peak periods. From the moment you arrive, you're immersed in a resort atmosphere that prompted our nine-year-old son Jasper to declare, "It's not a caravan park, Dad. It's a theme park for caravaners." The facilities are genuinely extraordinary – swim-up bars, water slides, splash zones, pump tracks, recreation areas, and a unique wristband system that serves as both your access key and wallet throughout the resort. While the price tag might cause sticker shock for traditional campers, we explore whether the value proposition makes sense for families seeking a complete holiday destination where kids can play endlessly and parents can relax poolside. Our midweek visit (30% discount applied!) gave us the perfect opportunity to experience the luxury without the weekend crowds. We also catch up with Brad and Hayley from Our Australia Trip, who share their journey of turning a planned one-year adventure into three years of full-time travel. They offer practical advice on working remotely, with Brad securing truck driving positions and Hayley working as a relief teacher. Their key suggestion for aspiring nomads? "Set a date and just go – you can always come back for special occasions." The couple shares insights on their favorite Australian destination (the Ningaloo Coast), hints at an exciting vehicle upgrade in their future, and discusses how they're transitioning from a short-term adventure to a sustainable traveling lifestyle that might eventually include children. Whether you're dreaming of luxury camping experiences or seeking practical advice on how to make long-term travel work, this episode delivers inspiration and real-world strategies from those living the dream. Join us for a heartfelt and inspiring conversation with Paul’s parents, Lyn and Peter Guerin, as they share their remarkable journey through 55 years of marriage and a life lived boldly. From falling in love and marrying during Peter’s conscription to the Vietnam War, to raising seven children under ten(yes, you read that right!) while embracing a lifestyle far from conventional—Lyn and Peter’s story is a testament to the power of love, faith, and fearless decision-making. You’ll hear how they made the bold move to the Gold Coast despite all odds, and how in 1988, they packed up their lives and took their family of 9 on a six-month road trip across the USA in a dusty old Winnebago—well before #vanlife was even a thing! Now in their 70s, this dynamic duo continues to embrace life on the road, living part-time in their Jayco caravan and adventuring overseas whenever they can. Their story will make you laugh, reflect, and maybe even rethink what’s possible for your own life journey. Whether you’re caravanning, camping, or simply dreaming of a life less ordinary—this episode is not to be missed. 💛 Grab a copy of the Guerin Family Book Family Business: The Business of Being Family here - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/1452525773?ref_=mr_referred_us_au_au And as a massive thank you to our podcast listeners we’re offering a 25% off discount code on our best-selling eBook bundle! Beyond the Forecast: Staying Safe When Adventure Meets Extreme Weather

3/22/2025
Send us a text Cyclones, bushfires, and flash floods – Australia's weather can turn from perfect to perilous faster than you can pack up your awning. When Cyclone Alfred approached Queensland's southeast coast, our family faced an unfamiliar threat that transformed from potential disaster to valuable learning experience. The slow-moving cyclone (downgraded before landfall yet still delivering destructive rain and widespread power outages) highlighted a crucial truth for all travelers: emergency preparedness isn't optional – it's essential. Drawing from both this recent experience and our earlier encounter with bushfire danger, we share five critical components of an effective evacuation plan that every caravanner needs. From assessing campground risks (those picturesque dry creek beds can flood with just 10mm of rain!) to configuring emergency alert apps, maintaining a ready-to-go emergency kit, keeping your vehicle primed for quick departure, and knowing when to make the call to leave – our practical approach demystifies disaster preparedness without inducing panic. We've learned through experience that preparation doesn't diminish adventure; rather, it provides the confidence to explore further knowing you're equipped to handle unexpected situations. With climate extremes becoming more frequent, these discussions are increasingly vital for all travelers, especially families. The ultimate message resonates beyond caravanning: prepare thoroughly, stay informed, and prioritize safety above all else – because while your vehicle and gear can be replaced, nothing can replace you. Join us for this essential conversation about protecting what matters most while embracing the beauty and unpredictability of Australia's magnificent landscapes. SPECIAL EDITION! - Off Road Off Grid AUSTRALIA - what you need to know before you! go

2/14/2025
Send us a text Uncover the joys and challenges of off-road, off-grid living in Australia. We discuss essential preparations, such as education, water management, power systems, communication devices, and relationship dynamics during travel. • The importance of education before embarking on off-road adventures • Key considerations for water management in remote areas • Importance of reliable power sources while camping off-grid • Essential communication tools for safety and coordination • Relationship dynamics and strategies for travelling couples • Resources available for further learning, including a free audiobook • Free tickets for Australia’s largest Caravan and Camping Super Show Before we sold up our life on the Gold Coast, we had never even owned a tent. Fast forward 180,000km, three different vans, two vehicles, and a few “well, that was a bad idea” purchasing decisions—we’ve learned a thing or two. From the highs of remote sunsets and campfire cook-ups to the lows of vehicle rollovers, split heads, broken ankles, ribs, and the occasional tyre blowout, we’ve lived to tell the tale. As the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” … or at least a whole lot wiser! The first couple of years we cruised the blacktop, but for the last three years, we’ve gone full send into the off-road life. Cape York, Oodnadatta, Meerenie Loop, Plenty Highway—if it’s remote and rugged, chances are we’ve driven it. In fact, our first year with our ZONE RV and Toyota Landcruiser 79 was spent entirely off-grid—unplugged, self-sufficient, and loving it! If you’re planning on heading off road and off grid, survival is great, but thriving is even better! Here’s what you need to master: Plus, for our Victorian listeners, we’ll be presenting at the upcoming Caravan and Camping Supershow from the 19th-23rd February 2025, and have a fantastic BUY ONE GET ONE FREE ticket offer for you! Thanks to our friends at Caravan Industry Victoria, use our CARAVANSHOW_FEELGOOD code to pay only $20 for 2 adults to attend the show. Plus kids under 15 are free!
