Ep. 226: WILD CARD Down Under featuring Craig Elvin

4/19/2024
This week pour yourself a pint of Victoria Bitter and join us in welcoming back the CEO of Aussie Pub Rock: Craig Elvin! This time he’s with us live on American soil, so we decided to play a special version of the drinking game we call, “WILD CARD”! Robert and Craig go head-to-head in a game where they try to get points by naming the obscure band that is being played. Of course, we made it more interesting by adding an Aussie twist. This is a heated 10-song battle, so you can only imagine the state our players were in by the end! What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Besides conducting ridiculous game shows, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode we take a listen to all 3, as we let our contestants pick a randomly obscure song by the decade in which it was released from a creatively curated playlist. Our good friend Jeremy has been in bands with your hosts; and is an amazing guitarist and all-around music aficionado. Ep. 225: Excavation: New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Part IV with Tony Griggs

4/12/2024
This week the lads hop across the pond to do some more excavation of denim and leather… Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon, Judas Priest are not on this episode, however, the one and only: Tony Griggs is! The NWOBM movement was filled with passionate bands from Great Britain that were poised to take over the world in the early 80s. Tony is a big fan of these groups and we are happy to have him on board to help spread the word and sounds for those bands that didn’t quite make it to the mainstream. What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the LOST. From the music, to the fashion, to the attitude… over 40 years ago these bands started an underground movement that would change hard rock and metal globally forever. 4/5/2024
This week is all about bands playing a famous singer–songwriter’s songs better than he ever did… This is a particular phenomenon known as, “The Dylan Factor”. In this episode, we showcase songs by old Bobby Dylan that sound better than the versions he recorded. Some will say that’s not a hard feat, but none can deny the powerful songwriting and auspicious lyrics of Dylan. What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. If you’ve never listened to Dylan because of his polarizing voice and delivery, try these awesome rock n’ punk n’ metal versions instead! Ep. 223: Japanese Metal Maiden Mavens

3/29/2024
This week we give Cap’n Content a break as Kevin throws Robert for loop by digging into the world of the Japanese Girls Metal Band boom that has been gaining momentum worldwide since 2010. This episode tests Robert’s endurance as he listens to music slightly outside of his wheelhouse with the quick tempos and technical ecstasy that is Japanese Metal! Come join us and listen to one of Kevin’s guilty pleasure genres. Make sure you have YouTube or Google Images available as you listen, so that you can get the full effect of this very visual genre! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Don’t try to understand all of the lyrics unless you are Japanese or speak Japanese! Our hope is that we turn you on to something that we think should be the next big thing. Ep. 222: Degrees Of Separation… ALICE COOPER

3/22/2024
This week we offer up the 12th installment of our series called, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss side projects and solo releases from artists we love. We are celebrating the adjacencies to a true rock n’ roll icon: ALICE COOPER. Not much to say about the man, the myth, the legend. Capn’n Content suggested that we focus our listening to the gunslinger guitarists that have supported the Coop throughout his long career. So, that’s what we are doing! Enjoy. New to InObscuria? Ep. 218: The Inbetweeners - When 80s Met 90s pt.2

2/23/2024
This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n’ heavy and the 90s alternative n’ grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners! What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard rockin’ 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners! Ep. 217: Raiding The Progressive Rock Crypt - 80's Neo-Prog

2/16/2024
This week get your nerd on with us as we are raiding the Prog Rock crypt again. However, this will be a much different journey into the world of progressiveness, as we are covering Neo-Prog from the early to mid-1980s. A much different time for progressive rock, as these bands were influenced by more than just Genesis, Yes, and King Crimson. These groups were injecting heavy doses of hard rock, new wave, punk, and pop into their progressive Day-Glo soup! Keep an open mind and give it a listen… What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Prog rock in the 60s and 70s initially had mostly classical music and jazz influences, but over the last 40 years it has come to include other fusions of music styles including metal, punk, funk, folk, and electronic. From Zappa and Sgt. Pepper to the 1980s music by bands like Marillion and Pendragon… This is Neo-Prog Rock! Get yer nerd on! We will once again explore all things FUNKY! Let your body move and your asses groove as we get down with some badass funk rock! What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

1/12/2024
This week we continue the discussion that we started at the end of our last show; with our admiration of the almighty power of the guitar and the guitar hero! This time around we are going to play guitarists, or guitar passages or leads in songs that caught our ears at some point in our lives that made us truly stop and listen. It’s not always about the training, finesse, dexterity, or speed a player has or even the style of music or song that is being played. If you are into guitar and the sound of strings being plucked and bent then you know… It’s just something you feel deep down that gets to your heart and soul! What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Guitar World and Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard! Be sure to also check out the Jason Becker documentary “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet” that we mention.
