As the build of our Vietnam, we wanted to get a Q&A session released answering the questions you may have surrounding the build.

Buying a boat can be a tricky process. Boat brokers can be good and bad. And your choice of broker will invariably dictate how smooth the process will be both before, during and after you have purchased. In this podcast we give you our experiences surrounding the whole boat buying process.

Fitting out a boat, whether it is a catamaran or monohull, new or used involves a lot of decisions. One set of decisions we all need to make relates to those items that cost a fair amount of money that we hope we never use. In this episode we discuss those "hidden items", the thought processes behind them and what we eventually decided on to keep us as safe as possible, both at sea and while docked.

So many of you boat nerds like me are asking questions about the Ruby Rose 2 build. As the answers are a little dry for some people, we thought we would record a series of podcasts detailing the deep dives into our choices. Behan and Jamie Gifford have been living on their 47 foot sailing yacht for over a decade with their 3 children. Over those years they have become one of the best resources on the internet for cruising with children- indeed, Behan literally wrote the book on this very subject. Having completed their circumnavigation only a couple of years ago, they are now in Mexico planning a return to the South Pacific- until, that is, the Covid-19 pandemic caused them to change their plans. In this episode we interview Elena and Ryan from popular YouTube channel, Sailing Kittiwake and discuss how they got into sailing, why they decided to go from living on a catamaran to buying a monohull (when it's usually the other way around) and why they love the cruising lifestyle. Interestingly, they recently completed an Atlantic crossing on their 37 foot Tayana and while they were at sea the Covid-19 Pandemic broke out. They had no choice but to continue to sail on, not knowing where and when they'd be making landfall as countries around the world suddenly closed their borders.

Moving from a life on land where you see your partner/ husband/wife for only a few hours a day to living on a boat 24/7 takes some adjustment. We have seen marriages in utter meltdown, tatters, & ruins from this level of proximity. We struggled in the beginning but learned to adapt. Now our relationship is stronger than it has ever been, but how do you live with your partner on a boat and still get to enjoy your long term cruise?

Provisioning in these times of panic is very similar to provisioning for crossing an ocean. In this episode we talk about the lessons we learned the hard way!

Sailing away from our corporate life was one of the best things we ever did. Brokers want to sell you a big boat. Don't listen to them! It's totally unnecessary and we'll explain why. Honestly getting sailing for free (or almost free) is easy and it will be far more enjoyable if you follow these few steps.
