Oncologist and researcher Dr. Vu Duong joins us today to share all that and more. Dr. Vu H. Duong is an associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. His clinical focus is in acute leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and bone marrow failure syndromes. He has been the principal investigator on numerous clinical trials and is an author on over 60 journal publications in the field. In addition to clinical and research activities, he is also heavily involved in the education of fellows, internal medicine residents, and medical students. He received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University and his M.D. from the University of Virginia, completed his residency training at the University of Virginia, and completed his hematology/oncology fellowship training at the University of South Florida. She is also the Associate Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, focusing on creating positive outcomes for the surrounding community and the prehospital environment through the lens of justice and equity. As a national leader, she has authored numerous academic papers, media articles, blogs, and posts focused on pediatric emergency care and community-engaged CPR. She has personally taught CPR to over 2,000 community members, including 500 Division I athletes (one of whom credited Dr. Owusu-Ansah’s training for making it possible for her to perform CPR on her father and save his life!) She is the creator, CEO, and co-founder of Akoma United, a nonprofit organization focused on providing life-saving skills to underserved communities, with a global initiative in Ghana. Her work has been honored with numerous awards, and she has advised top actors and executive producers for medical dramas. Our guest today shares all that and more. Neha Pathak, MD, FACP, DipABLM is the Chief Physician Editor of Health and Lifestyle Medicine at WebMD and the host of WebMD’s Health Discovered podcast. Beyond her role at WebMD, Dr. Pathak is a lecturer at the Yale School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences, where she facilitates a course in the Climate Change and Health Certificate Program. She serves on the board of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, where she is chair of the Global Sustainability Committee and sits on the Medical Society Consortium for Climate and Health steering committee. She is also a founding member of the Georgia Clinicians for Climate Action and sits on the board of Georgia Interfaith Power and Light. Additionally, Dr. Pathak is the Associate Program Director of the Atlanta VA Medical Center's Quality Scholars Program and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. She is dual board-certified in internal medicine and lifestyle medicine with a focus on prescribing whole food, plant based diet, exercise, sleep and stress-management strategies to maintain health and well-being. She graduated with a BA in psychology/biology from Harvard University, received her MD with honors in community service from Cornell University's Weill Medical College, and completed her primary care internal medicine residency at New York Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College. She obtained her certificate in climate change and health communication from Yale School of Public Health. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and three children.
