Trigger Warning - Suicide Is Spoke Of In This Episode. This might be the most moving episode and open conversation we have ever had on this show. Lauren McDonough shares her story of battling with mental illness and her attempt at suicide which she was incredibly lucky to escape. Her outlook on the mental health system in Australia was incredibly insightful as she talks through a taboo topic which this episode tries to normalise as suicide has touched many in society one way or another. We breakdown the difference between working through mental health and the difference with people living with mental illness. Terry Antonis was already a star in Australian Football at the age of 10 winning a competition with Adidas and getting the chance to train with David Beckham. Becks went on to say he had not seen talent in a kid so young for a long time which made headlines in Australia. Terry trained everyday with his dad and it wasn't easy for a kid with so much spotlight and pressure on him but that ended building such a strong resilience within. Terry joined Everton as a kid where he built a brotherhood with Tim Cahill before coming back to the AIS and joining Sydney FC at 16. A wonderkid that has forged a career throughout the A-League and across big clubs like Suwon Bluewings and Panathinaikos. Hayden Crozier has just announced his retirement from the AFL after playing 140 games across both Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs through its entirety. Croz goes through in this episode the brutal nature of the AFL and how he had to transform his body by adding weight to it just to stand a chance of playing a game in his early years. Some of the players Hayden has played with in his career are special and we detail the levels of Nat Fyfe, Matthew Pavlich and Marcus Bontempelli just to name a few. Having worked with both Ross Lyon and Luke Beveridge, Hayden's insights on high level performance and the rigors of the game come through in this episode on a level we haven't experienced before. This was a truly fun episode with a character well loved by all his team mates on any team that he has played on. I really enjoyed shooting this one which held many laughs within the show. Tom Boyd's career has been well heralded for some years becoming the number #1 draft pick in the AFL in 2013 to only walk away from the game after 5 years and 61 games across both GWS and the Bulldogs. Despite experiencing one of the most incredible finals runs to win a Premiership with the Bulldogs, Tom's body and mind was always in a continuous battle to whether Footy was the right place for him. This episode was enlightening to the fact at how media had details wrong about Tom's exit to the game which through this discussion showed courage and also an awareness for a bigger purpose in life. This man I found super intelligent and someone that I consider to only know excellence which says a lot about Tom Boyd and his story. Richard Hughes is an Australian based Hollywood Film Director and Writer who recently released his first feature film called `The Enforcer' which was led by Antonio Banderas and Kate Bosworth. Rich is also known for `The Viral Experiment' which was across 8 pieces of content that fooled mainstream media to believing it was real and generated millions of views which states the genius of the man. There was so many interesting stories in this podcast about the film space but also Rich's run ins with people through the movie industry such as the late Angus Cloud (Fez from Euphoria), Zac Efron and Two Chainz which were all truly fascinating. We made a goal to open up the aperture of possibilities with the various guests and industries we want to go after for the show and this was an absolutely awesome space to tap into with a podcast filled with energy and laughter. Tolgay Arslan is Melbourne City's new number ten and is setting the league a light with his creativity and brilliance. Starting out at the famous Borussia Dortmund, Tolgay played alongside Mario Gotze and Antonio Rudiger for the u19s and was coached by Peter Hyballa who happened to be in Melbourne when we shot the show so he also joined this incredible football discussion. Tolgay has been teammates with Heung Min Son at Hamburg, scored against Liverpool for Besiktas and has won many titles. This was a powerful football discussion that honestly felt like an education even for me which I truly loved. We were also joined by the Assistant Coach of Beijing Guan, Jason Vermeer. Jack Hanley is beyond an inspiration and I did all I could to get this man on the show to get the juice off him which I think we delivered. The Crazy Running Man as he is known just achieved a feat that stretches the brain with running 50km a day for 50 days. Why I admire Jack, is he came on the show and shared the darkness he went through struggling addiction with alcohol, drugs and gambling from 2013 through to 2020 and made an example of how he wanted to change to live a better life. Jack's dedication to ultra events are tied to a mental health charity called Out of The Blue which has raised over $55k in the last 3 months. Tom Mitchell joins for one of the shows of the year as we dive into the trade of the year which saw Tommy win the Premiership at his new home Collingwood. We go into why Tom Mitchell was born to play AFL and where he gets his unwavering work ethic and focus from. The recruitment war that took place in 2011 for the draft pick of Mitchell is a story that has not been shared like this before and I found absolutely mind blowing. We also break down why Alistair Clarkson got the best footy out of Mitchell which led to the 2nd place in the Brownlow in 2017 and the 2018 Brownlow win. This was an incredible episode about one of the great footy players in the comp for the last 10 years. Mason Wood has had a rollercoaster journey across his AFL career but his level headed approach and invaluable perspective on tough moments is why he is hitting the top of his game at the Saints at 30 years old. We go through his journey at North Melbourne which after 50 games Mason shed's light on that he had more scans on his body than AFL Games which is crazy. He hit highs at North but found a new home in the St.Kilda footy club where he is playing a role bigger than an on-field player which doesn't always attract the limelight. His most consistent form and games per season is at an all time high and is no doubt a key player for the club going forward. A 300 game player with two premiership medals in the AFL and still as humble as they come for a top level athlete.
