This is an "insiders" look at how airline employees used to travel in the good ole days, before Covid, fax machines and mandatory reservations! Cindy and her husband, Bart were fellow airline employees back in the day when we could jump on and off flights to get anywhere in the world, for free! They have traveled around the world and have seen more in their travels than ten other couples combined! This doesn't make any sense! Why would "Sin Taste Good" to this gifted corporate flight attendant! Relax, this isn't going to be some steamy look at the secret life of flight attendants! It's merely the title of her new book! But you're going to be moved by the wave of miracles that led to her landing a plum corporate jet flight attendant job with absolutely no experience! You other corporate flight attendants will know how tough that is and how seldom it happens without divine help! And you probably can't wait to hear why she named her book "Sin Tastes Good" so listen up to her tell the story. I met Reina through my friendship with Christina Brown, a corporate flight attendant who started the Aviation Wellness online community. We start out with her talking about being raised in the country of Brunei, where her father flew the Sultan of Brunei’s corporate jet and where she hung out with the princes and princesses in that country. She did that job for 5 years and it took her around the world, laying over for 6 weeks at a time in places like southern France, writing her book and singing in a church that she stumbled across during one of her fabulous layovers. One of the powerful parts of her interview is when she talks about how to have peace in the midst of the furlough chaos that has taken place in the aviation industry and how her peace principles apply in any other circumstance for that matter. Hi Heroes, but especially you NorCal, Marin and Sonoma County aviator-type heroes! This is Bert, and I have a special interview for you today. You've heard of the flying doctors but this guy is not your ordinary, garden variety flying doctor. Doctor Jon's medical career took a few unexpected turns and landed him as CEO of a very large company that in turn led to him finally being able to indulge his passion for aviation. And, lucky for us, he's landed here in Marin County, at Scanlon Aviation at Gnoss Field with not just his passion for flying but wanting also to include anyone with a similar passion to join him. Even though I've been pretty successful in a couple of different careers I'm always blown away by guys with big brains and big hearts like Dr. Jon, and his ability to juggle a few, very difficult projects at once and come out smiling. Heroes, this used to be the "kiss of death" for pilots! Diabetes has for a long time been disqualifying for a pilot to continue flying. In Pietro's story you'll hear about what he had to go through, after learning he was diabetic at 21 years old, especially since he had been actively flying and his life came to a screeching halt after this discovery. You'll hear how he had to fight his way back to health and in the process, did a ton of research that led to the FAA completely changing the protocol that they require for a pilot to continue flying with diabetes. But very soon into his fight to remain in the cockpit he realized that this was much more than him trying to maintain his license; it was a fight for all the young pilots, and general population, who come after him who have felt hopeless in their fight for health. Hear how he describes that, as a kid he was able to "eat all the good stuff, like pizza and cake" and how that all came crashing down as he helps discover an amazing technological breakthrough to treat diabetes, a device called a "continuous glucose monitor." Hi My Everyday Heroes, this is Mandy B, the lady who went from "Fashion Designer to Pilot in Command” but not without some trying times and challenges. Mandy’s story is not your typical “midwestern girl heads west, makes good as a fashion designer, marries, has three kids, learns to fly” story. If you ladies who are listening to this have ever harbored the thought of “how cool would it be to be able to fly an airplane “ you might be inspired and encouraged to just “jump in and do it” after listening to Mandy’s story. But there’s a few twists and turns along the way that you need to know about but not enough that discouraged her or you either from tackling and succeeding at this challenge. Her grandmother called her a “hornet” when she was five years old because she was constantly buzzing around, getting into things. She always considered herself a risk taker but when I pressed her on that label, she confessed that she’s become much more conservative now, especially since she’s got a family and is responsible for much more than just herself. But that didn’t stop her from tackling her life-long dream. Her father was her inspiration to fly and in the interview you’ll be able to trace her life from being a successful fashion designer to remembering how much she enjoyed that time spent with her father and what it was like being up in the air and finally pursuing her dream. Gina is 5'4" tall and 110 lbs. Most people would think that she’s “too small” to be an iron and steel forger, a blacksmith, a horse and goat trainer, a wilderness photographer, a hunter who packs into the mountains with her goats, a paramedic, nurse, and one of the first women to be hired as a fire fighter on the elite Oregon "hotshot" team. The only flaw I could find in my time with her was her limited vocabulary; she's unable to pronounce and use the word "can't" in a sentence! Listen to her story of how, as a seven year old girl she was raised in the mountains, by a father and grandfather who taught her the power of "you can do this" and "brain over brawn." A country person by nature, a few years ago Gina started developing the time honored craft of Blacksmithing, making steel into rustic useful items. With her living next to the beautiful Cascade Mountains in Oregon, photography was a natural since it’s something she’s done all her life. Her approach to things she thought could be almost impossible was "this could be interesting." As a woman of faith hear how her combination of "I can do this" and Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me" enabled her to do what could be considered nearly impossible for most women. Vern Hunter is not just one of my brothers in a Christian men’s group that meets weekly, I consider him to be the spiritual leader of our group. Vern was raised by a white mother and black father so when he speaks of how he sees an end to racism, he knows what he’s talking about! From describing how, as a young man on the streets, he would bring home his free school lunch to his pregnant sister to our conversation where he talks about his rise from drug dealer in the ‘hood to one of the top car salesman in Northern California. He’s quick to point out that this wasn’t because of his efforts but because of how God has influenced his life. He talks about how it’s impossible to fight hate with hate and how important it is to be respectful and honoring even if other people aren’t honorable. An example of this was how a detective who came into the dealership to buy a car initially looked down on him but as Vern began “to love on him” the detective opened up by sharing his opinion of what was wrong with the new crop of cops these days. The detective said that too many of them have a “game boy” mentality that leads them to draw their weapon before using the kind of “street smarts” that cops of old seemed to have naturally.. Oh yeah, the detective ended up buying a new car from Vern!

Chuck Carter is a retired Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer and Rescue Swimmer who used to “fly 300 miles offshore to jump into 30 foot seas to rescue someone he doesn’t know and might not even like!” He had a rather inauspicious beginning to his life-saving career by driving his car through a building as a teen age kid back in Maine! After he got through paying for that, he decided to do something more constructive with his life so he joined the Coast Guard. Fast forward 26 years, Chuck ended up on active duty “saving lives and training life savers.” As an Aviation Survival Technician, Chief Petty Officer, Chuck figured that getting paid to work out and swim around was a great way to earn a living. When he found out in basic training that “they’re going to try to drown you” he realized he was in “over his head!” But he quickly learned to not only survive but thrive in a career that he found extremely rewarding but where sometimes his buddies would find themselves alone, in the water 300 miles offshore, waiting to be rescued themselves! If you’re a visual kind of guy or gal, you’re going to love the way Chuck articulates his story and paints the picture of a very exciting adventure of what it was like to prepare for his career of jumping out of a helicopter into 30 foot seas and living to jump and swim another day. Chuck spent most of his time in Coast Guard aviation, performing countless missions as the Rescue Swimmer on Sikorsky HH-3 and HH-60 helicopters, Aerospatiale HH-65 helicopters and as a load-master and drop-master on the Lockheed C-130. During his last nine years on Active Duty, Chuck managed the Coast Guard’s Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) School at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Petaluma, CA where he trained more Coast Guard EMT’s than anyone else before or since! During this time, Chuck also worked a second job at the local Emergency Room in Petaluma as an Emergency Room Technician to keep his own operational EMT skills sharp; this is a guy you definitely want with you if you’re thinking of doing anything stupid! Stick around to the end of our interview to find out how God put Chuck in the exact position needed to take his life saving skills from physical to spiritual!! He recently began a Master’s Program in Counseling Psychology at Dominican College in San Rafael, CA. Chuck has six children with his wife of 33 years.

On September 11th, 2001 Joe Keisling was taxiing his American Airlines Boeing 767 out of Chicago O’Hare for takeoff when Ground Control called and told him there was an indefinite ground stop on all eastbound departures…thus began the day that changed his life and ours forever! In this interview you’ll get a first-hand listen to what happened that day, especially when you hear Joe talk about something that never happens in aviation, one of the air traffic controllers’ voice cracking when he told them, “God bless you.” But it didn’t stop there. For those of you who might be thinking of an airline flying career, Joe pulls back the curtain on the unheard of miracle of how he was hired at American without a college degree. Then he tells us how that happened and how becoming the poster boy in a 1980 Super Bowl commercial for the Army helicopter pilot recruiting program in the latest model of the Army’s Cobra helicopter “punched his ticket” for the rest of his aviation career! I call Christina a Diva: “A woman who ‘engages in unreasonable behavior and makes demands on others that potentially exceed the measure of hers and their talent!’" Christina set the table for our interview by stating her motto; “My life purpose is to be a force for good through genuine love and kindness in order to raise the vibration of planet earth.” With that said, she is the creator of the Aviation Wellness Community, a Facebook community that brings together aviation professionals who support, encourage, and love on one another while also providing important health and wellness resources to this unique community who face challenges unlike most earth-bound creatures! In her interview she speaks candidly about the unique challenges of her life growing up as a “party girl,” the effect that had on her and how her past motivated her to change her ways and readied her for her career as a corporate flight attendant, being solely responsible in the cabin for the safety, comfort and well-being of her high-end clients. She has a powerful, convincing yet comforting way of telling her story and she talks about the importance, and challenge, of “walking her talk” while trying to be authentic with her feelings. You will be motivated to take her main attribute, as told to her by one of her friends, that of “taking a negative and turning it into a positive” and using that in your own life. Christina has an admittedly low tolerance for “small talk” and constantly seeks to find ways to help others create meaning in her and their life. She wants to know “what your biggest problems, your biggest challenges in life are!” She says how important it is to be open and realize that your story, your life can be an important learning experience for others and how important it is to share your story with others. She seeks constantly to help others discover their vision, their passion in life and how she can inspire and support others to put that into action, especially during these times when it’s possible to totally “reset” our lives.
