Moving Freight— A Global Opportunity That’s on the Move!

10/4/2023
Hi everyone. Did you know there’s a multi-billion-dollar GLOBAL opportunity in the transportation industry? It happens to be one that’s not widely known. It has to do with shipping freight and, in this case, with those who help to do that, otherwise known as freight brokers. My guest expert, Jason Bauch, owns businesses which focus on freight brokering. On this episode, Jason speaks about (1) his unusual path to getting involved in freight brokering, (2) some of the biggest changes and challenges taking place in the freight brokering space, (3) the global nature of the business, and (4) the gargantuan projected growth in freight brokering during this decade. Most importantly, Jason identifies at least three opportunities for people to enter the freight brokering business, and he offers some helpful tips on who's best suited for this kind of work, and how they can get started. Now a little bit more about Jason. Jason began his logistics career in 1997 as a driver. After a serious driving accident, he then moved into the office and managed a fleet of over 30 trucks. Later, he transitioned to the brokerage side of the business and has spent the last 22 years learning, innovating, and developing personally, professionally, and financially. Jason possesses vast knowledge of the transportation industry as a whole-- including dealing with temperature-controlled products-- as made evident by his impressive list of customers in the food industry. Jason is an owner of 3 businesses. 360 Freight Solutions focuses on building long-term relationships with carriers (typically, truck companies) and customers, those who have products or goods to ship. https://www.360freightsolutions.com/ His second business is Brokerz Edge, which is intended to combat misinformation about the industry and teach people how to earn a multiple 6-figure income in the freight brokering business. https://www.brokerzedge.com/ His newest company, Luramiles, is a logistics company that removes the bottlenecks in the transportation industry. Think of it as like an Amazon for freight. Luramiles helps small-to-mid-sized trucking companies get exposure to more customers by improving the flow of information and communication https://luramiles.com/ You can reach Jason and learn about his companies through any of the websites shown above, as well as on various social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Commercial Real Estate + Clean Technology= Huge Opportunities for You!

9/6/2023
Hi everyone. Did you know that buildings are responsible for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, and that of all the buildings that will exist in 2040, 2/3 already exist today? Well it turns out, that creates enormous opportunities for those who want to remove the carbon from those buildings. My guest expert, Owen Barrett, serial entrepreneur, and founder and president of Rayven, speaks with me about these opportunities and much more on this episode. Among other things, Owen discusses (1) what the impetus was for him to get involved in decarbonizing commercial real estate properties, (2) one major trend that's stimulating interest in clean technology in the United States, (3) how other countries actions on climate change and decarbonization differ in some ways from those of the U.S., and (4) an exciting development that could be a game changer for tackling climate change in the future. Most importantly for you, Owen identifies numerous opportunities for entrepreneurs, job and career changers, and investors spawned by the commercial real estate decarbonization effort. And he gives you some great tips to get you started on that path. Now a little bit more about Owen. Since earning a bachelor’s degree in finance, cutting his teeth in the financial industry, and earning a master’s degree in environmental science and management, Owen’s been on a professional rampage, pushing complacency and bureaucracy aside, and decarbonizing our economy at an impressive rate. Owen’s a three-time founder in the clean tech space, with one successful exit. As a Global Energy Manager for a Fortune 500 company for three years, Owen implemented $60 million of clean technology. Combining his experience in fuel cells, solar PV, energy storage, LED lighting, and HVAC optimization, Owen left to launch lumeo, a niche energy service company. Within three years, lumeo hit eight figures in revenue and helped forty school districts implement energy efficiency and renewable energy. After a successful exit from lumeo, and nearly a decade in the clean technology industry, Owen started ZNE Capital and pivoted to buying commercial real estate for the purpose of decarbonizing it. In just three years, Owen acquired and partially decarbonized $96M of multifamily properties. While ZNE Capital proves to have a successful business model, the rampant inauthenticity within the institutional impact investing space made it challenging for ZNE Capital to make impact at scale. Owen founded Rayven to decarbonize existing buildings at scale. Rayven is the world’s first net-zero real estate investment platform. Every property they buy is converted to true net zero (no offsets involved). By partnering with thousands of authentic, retail-impact investors, Owen, Rayven, and every single investor will decarbonize the world, one apartment building at a time. Rayven is Owen’s Sistine Chapel and the culmination of a decade in sustainability. You can reach Owen at owen@joinrayven.com Learn more about Rayven at www.joinrayven.com Now a word about a special deal you can get just by being a Looking Forward® listener! COVID OR NOT: EXPORTING AND GLOBAL TRADE OFFER GREAT OPPORTUNITIES!

4/13/2023
Hi everybody! Do you have a product or service you think might interest businesses or consumers who live in another country? Perhaps you’re looking to invest in such a product or service? Or maybe you’re looking for a job or career opportunity in serving different global markets? If any of these are of interest to you, you’ll want to hear what my guest expert, Betsy Olim, has to say on this episode of Looking Forward. Betsy’s spent over 40 years in the exporting and international trade world, so she knows quite a bit about all this. Among other things, Betsy talks about (1) how exporting and global trade have been affected by COVID, (2) how some countries differ when it comes to their import/export business, (3) important trading regulations to know about, and (4) the best resources for beginning or growing your export business. In true Looking Forward fashion, you'll also learn about the wide array of opportunities the business of exporting and international trade offer anyone from an entrepreneur, to a small business or medium-sized business, to an investor, to a job or career seeker. And, of course, you'll get some great tips from Betsy on how to successfully begin or expand your journey into the large and growing business of exporting and global trade! Now a little more about Betsy: Elizabeth (Betsy) Olim is President of Olim International, Inc. For over 40 years, she has been providing solutions in international trade, distribution, business development, and risk management. Betsy founded Olim International, Inc. in 1997 to bring world-class export management and international distribution services to small-and medium-sized U.S. companies. On behalf of her clients, Betsy’s company has opened markets on all continents except for Antarctica. In 2019, Betsy created "Export Stories Podcast," a podcast of one-on-one interviews dedicated to first person, experiential stories from the wide—sometimes wild— world of U.S. exporting. The mission of the podcast is to encourage U.S. exports and educate and inspire U.S. exporters/potential U.S. exporters through storytelling and discussions with experts in all aspects of international trade. Betsy is a recipient of the Export Achievement Certificate from the U. S. Department of Commerce. In 2013 she was appointed to the West Tennessee District Export Council by the Secretary of Commerce, and has served on a number of boards for many years, including the Ira Samelson Boys & Girls Club, and Indie Memphis.
