Disciplining our children is hard work! This conversation is with my mom, Connie Burroughs, who poured herself into discipling the hearts of her four children for so many years and has encouraged many moms on this topic of the heart of parental discipline. Between her four children and my five children, it is incredible to see the many different struggles that can come with training children. There will be a follow up episode with some specific tools of discipline, but it must begin first with the heart. We talk about our heart when we are disciplining our children and the ways that we strive to reach the hearts of our children through their training. Truly, the ultimate purpose of discipline is to lead our children's hearts closer to the Lord, that they may serve Him with their lives. Merry Christmas! I can’t believe that it is the final week of advent and preparing our hearts for the celebration of Christmas. At this time of year when there can be so much going on, I’ve decided to spend this episode with you bathing our hearts and minds in scripture. It is all too easy to busy ourselves so much that we neglect to still our hearts enough to truly abide in Him. We have so many voices constantly pouring into us, voices from those around us and in the voices we allow in our own minds, it is more important than ever that we be mindful of taking every thought captive and slowing down our hearts and minds to be filled with His truth. It is my prayer that this brief time together will leave you so filled with His Word that His joy will be made complete in you and your heart will be overflowing with His joy and love to those around you. As John 15 speaks to us so clearly, may we abide in Him this Christmas week. Slowness In the Christmas Season

If you do not prioritize slowness for you and your family in the Christmas season, no one will. With so many wonderful opportunities to good things at this time of year, it is so easy to slip into the busy "hustle and bustle" and miss the opportunity for the hearts in our homes to "prepare Him room". My good friend Michelle Akrami is back with me for this conversation. Michelle lives a very full life in southern CA with her husband and their 5 children. Yet with all of the blessings that come with living in such a busy place with so many people in her home, she continues to grow in the discipline of choosing slowness as she sets priorities for their family.
