Teaching Anatomy with James Xavier Barbour

8/2/2021
After teaching anatomy and art history for 21 years at Stanford University and the Academy of Art University, James Xavier Barbour decided to open his own school. He founded The Decorus Atelier of Figurative Art in Brooklyn, NY and is currently the primary instructor, along with two other instructors. Decorus Atelier is not your average art school, James has created an institution that brings teaching and learning back to the old fashioned way of studying anatomy and art with the local master. His approach is very personal, as he offers each student one-on-one instruction. James is passionate about expressing the eternal or universal truths that bind us as human beings as well our differences. His work often contains a psychological narrative which dances on the edges of both reality and the surreal. Believe in your ability. Those words are straight from Dr. Joseph Talbet himself. Dr. Talbet is an inspiring individual in many ways. Unfortunately, he was faced with obstacle after obstacle after obstacle. After being told he could not practice in the US with his degree from Egypt, he decided to go to medical school again! While working in the hospital, he was inspired to write his first children's book after having a fun interaction with a patient, passing drawings back and forth. Since then, he has published several children's medical books and is currently working on writing more. An Open Dialogue About Vaccine Hesitancy with Dr. Carlye Jensen

6/28/2021
Dr. Carlye Jensen resides in Uxbridge Ontario where she practices family medicine, works in the ER, does hospitalist work and palliative care. She is also chief of the local hospital. When COVID hit, she was immediately immersed in all things COVID both at the hospital and in the community - setting up protocols, creating a local covid assessment clinic, outreach programs to the long term care and retirement homes, publishing regular newsletters for her community, caring for patients with COVID in the hospital and now happily vaccinating people. In this episode, Dr. Jensen and Hillary have a very indepth conversation about the myths and facts of the covid vaccines. The most important thing to remember is the date of this episode. There is a constant growth of info w/ COVID, so our information is only as good as today's date. The other thing that is important to add is I hope this episode can serve as an inclusive and inviting conversation. I know that everything we talked about in this episode will already be well received by the pro vax community, but I hope that this conversation can be helpful for those who are skeptical or unsure about the vaccines.
