Introducing The Furry Explained Show with Finn the Panther, a brand new podcast about the furry fandom and its members!

We have spent a lot of time on this show talking about what brings furries into the fandom. But that would mean nothing if they left immediately after. Fortunately, that isn't the case; furries tend to stay around in the fandom for a long time, many for their entire lives! If you have taken a look at the attendance numbers of furry conventions recently, you would have noticed quite the jump in attendance numbers, especially since 2019. And that follows a trend of the fandom experiencing quite a bit of growth over the past few years. In this episode, we explain where this growth is coming from and why such a large jump in fandom participation is, in some ways, quite unexpected! The end goal for a vast majority of members of the furry fandom is to make friends with their fellow fandom members. But trying to make friends in any social space is difficult and since the journey is different for everyone, trying to make a guide for any furry to follow to make friends is quite futile. However, one piece of the friend-making puzzle is finding other common interests or hobbies that other furries have. On this episode, we take a look at some of the other things that furries like to do outside of being a furry, in an effort to help strike up a conversation with another furry and maybe even become their friend! The furry fandom is a pretty cool place to be, and I'm sure many members of the community would agree. But, like any group of humans, it's not perfect, and in order to help fix some of its flaws, it's important to identity what those flaws are in the first place. As a hobby, being a furry is weird. It might be something that someone engages with a lot, but might not want to tell everyone about up front, especially if that includes their parents, guardians, or primary caretakers. But it's hard to hide something this all-encompassing and those in charge of raising you are going to find out and potentially want to learn more. As someone who travels pretty frequently, I can sometimes forget how complicated the process of attending a furry convention. There's a lot of things to keep track of, and even if you have the basic pitfalls accounted for, there are still some unexpected struggles of attending a con that not figuring out can break an otherwise fantastic event. I've fallen victim to some of the struggles at some of the cons I've been through, but that also gives me a chance to talk about them here, in an effort to have you avoid them yourself. As 2022 comes to a close, so does Finn's second year being an active member of the furry fandom!
