About Dr. Thorp Dr. James (Jim) Thorp is an obstetrician/gynecologist and maternal fetal medicine physician who has served his obstetrical patients for over 44 years. He was heavily influenced by Dr Semmelweis’s principles and practice in the mid-1800’s in Vienna. Dr. Thorp finished medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit Michigan where he received the top clinical ob/gyn -David S Diamond Award- in his class. He went on to perform his ob/gyn residency at the University of Colorado-Denver and his maternal fetal medicine fellowship at the University of Texas-Houston. He served in the United States Air Force fulfilling a Scholarship that funded his medical school education. Dr. Thorp focused much of his career on optimizing preborn outcomes by “treating the fetus as a patient” utilizing a variety of strategies including his expertise in modifying techniques in “closed fetal surgeries”. Dr. Thorp provided testimony under the Bush Administration in the United States Senate in 2003 for his work. Though he distanced himself from fast-track academic positions that limited his independent research and funding, his clinical practice has always been very high volume. He furthered his education by attending Cincinnati Bible Seminary for two years on a Leadership Scholarship. Daniel received several awards for leadership and preaching.
