Episode 122: Navigate Opportunities Carefully

5/8/2024
Today we'll be talking to Kris, an FNP about to start her own practice where she'll focus on weight loss, IV therapy, and HRT, she would also like to implement functional medicine services at some point. Kris comes to the show looking for help on how to start, how to work smarter rather than harder, general start-up advice, and how to navigate new opportunities that are presented to her. A very important lesson we take from this episode is that you have to navigate opportunities very carefully, a lot of times people who come to you offering business opportunities and collaborations are just after their own benefit by taking advantage of you, you have to analyze these people's motives and determine if it'll be a positive addition to your business or life in general, most times it's not gonna be and you have to learn to identify and avoid these people.

Episode 121: Successful Women's Health Clinic

5/1/2024
Today we'll be talking to Peggy, a WHNP who owns and operates a Women's Health clinic where she focuses on general OB/GYN services, fertility treatment, IV infusion, therapy, and medical weight loss. The business is going fairly well and it has allowed Peggy to go full-time into her practice. She comes to the show looking for help on the process of hiring another provider and how to streamline her business so she's not working so much. In our conversation we talk about the importance of diversifying yourself, Peggy's clinic is set on the best way possible for this kind of practice, she's working on a hybrid model where she accepts insurance but also provides cashed-based services that increase her revenue and pulls in more patients to her practice. Of course, a bigger client volume means you'll have less free time for yourself, that's the point where bringing someone in to help take care of the patient load is necessary, relegating work and automating some tasks in your business will lead towards true financial independence by building a fully functional clinic that's basically all just passive income for you.

4/24/2024
Today we'll be talking to Nicole (ACNP) and Robert (LPN), a married couple currently working full-time at a ketamine clinic and as an executive director at a senior living facility respectively. Nicole and Robert need help with the start-up process, regulatory considerations, and a general plan for their practice's success. In this episode, we talk about the importance of knowing the services other providers offer in your area, that way you'll know what to offer to cover the needs of your potential clients. IV infusion it's a good product to provide but we don't recommend basing your whole practice on it, instead use it as a complement to services where you'll have a bigger income investing less of your time, especially if you have little to no competition from other practice's with those services in your area.

You have to listen to the people and provide what they need, in some instances, it might be difficult to change your practice's focus if you've built it around a specific service line but changing your services to cover the needs of the area you're in will be more profitable and will allow you to grow your business, don't be afraid to pivot!.

Episode 117: Escaping The Grind of Running your Business

4/3/2024
Today we'll be talking to Nichole, a dual-certified FNP/ACNP working full time on her own practice that she started a year ago. Nichole's practice offers primary care, HRT, weight loss, and aesthetics in a medical spa-type setting within the practice. Nichole has been feeling overwhelmed in her business, with less personal time and freedom than she had even when she was an employee, and she comes to the show looking for help on how to hire another provider to offload some of the work and how to keep growing her practice successfully. In this episode, we discuss how it's completely normal to feel bound to your business at the start of its success. When you're the single provider in your practice, taking care of a large patient volume will reduce your free time significantly. The next logical step in this situation is to bring in a second provider that will help you offload some of the work and get some of your time back. A successful business will take a lot of your time at first, but smart hiring and delegating responsibilities will lead you to true financial independence in the long run. Episode 114: Focusing on Functional Medicine

3/13/2024
Today we'll be talking to Heather a Family N.P. who's currently working PRN at the VA but she owns and operates her own functional medicine practice predominantly. She started the practice a couple of years ago and Heather thinks it's doing well business-wise, she's needing assistance developing protocols, creating packages, and narrowing down the services she should be providing. The most important thing we got from our conversation with Heather is that you need to focus on what you're doing when you first get started, it's ok to cast a wide net when it comes to the services you'll be providing, you need the revenue and you'll be taking advantage of all of your skills, however, as the practice grows you'll reach a point where you need to narrow your focus and stop offering a big variety of services, you have to find the service that's driving revenue at your business and that gives you satisfaction working on. It makes no sense to provide a service that brings in good money but that you hate doing, you have to find that balance of satisfaction and revenue potential when thinking of narrowing down on what you provide to your patients, that way you'll be more focused and bring in bigger revenue while doing something that you enjoy.

Diane owns and operates a primary care clinic full time where she also provides wellness and additional services, she needs help with integrating additional services, including HRT, to increase her practice's revenue as well as finding ways to grow her business. In this episode, we talk about how it is not recommended to make a quick change from accepting insurance into a cash practice, if you're looking to go that route you need to make a tapered transition that slowly takes insurance out of the picture, this movement will take you a lot of time. The best way to start taking cash in your business is to add complementary services that are paid in cash, with this hybrid model you're still being paid by insurance for services but you also have extra revenue with the cash-based products, and complementary services you'll be offering.

In our dive into Chaka's business, we realize that offering just one service can be very limiting, weight loss is very profitable but it's not something that will be long-term for most people, when establishing your business with the idea of growing it, you have to plan and think of offering services that will bring in recurring patients, that way you'll have a constant income stream from long term services from recurrent patients.

She's needing assistance with how to set up a subscription membership plan, how to get the business up the ground and what is important to focus on during the initial stages. An important lesson we learn in this episode is that you have to be at the right place and the right time to start a business, starting a business during a hectic period of your life when you don't have economic balance or your life organized will make things way harder for you.
