For a long time, even in season 1, I wanted to bring on a family member. Some have declined, some are still thinking about it ( 3 years later) and some, well my sister, have been wanting to be on since day 1. But I wanted to wait until she was older but more importantly in a better place. The pandemic changed everyone's lives but something that people don't talk about was how it affected our mental health. And when you lose someone like a parent right before which upends everything about you and your life, how does any expect you to cope when you are isolated? Well, this is my sister's story. She has been brave enough to tell her emotional and very personal story that starts at the age of 4 with the passing of our father, to 13 when our mom passed, to now, finishing high school and ready for life. This strong and powerful woman I've known and considered my daughter more than a sister has gone through more than most people have gone through in a lifetime. But her sheer determination, her power, and her will to not let these things define her life but empower it, and her incredible walk in her faith in God, has led her to happiness and an extremely bright future. Some of us, not many, have a specific goal in mind and already know what we want to do to accomplish it. For example, I knew I wanted to do science since I was young. This, in turn, helped me set up my entire journey to get to a career I enjoy. We go through our lives focused on the task at hand such as school, career, family, etc... that we forget ourselves. Sometimes, we need to enjoy things in life. Some like to go on vacation and others like to build things with their hands. Personally, I enjoy gaming. In our lives, we have different driving forces that help us get through things such as jobs, family, traumas, and just in general life. In my life, it was my faith. Not all of us are born religious, some of us embrace it later in life. In this week's episode, my guest Scott Garret discusses his faith and how it grew over the years. A reoccurring theme throughout this podcast so far is the importance of mentorship. A lot of what we achieve can be attributed to the amazing mentorship of people in our lives. In this episode, we learn it's not just mentorship as we think of it but the relationship you form, and this week's Guest, Seth, explains that to us. Mentorships can go beyond the topic, it can be personal, supportive, and sometimes emotional. Most people overlook the possibility of mentorships because of ego but looking at many successful people, they always have that 1 person that has totally changed their lives. Either way, Programs are and will become an essential part of your career. We are constantly provided gifts throughout our lives. No, I don't mean actual physical gifts like an Amazon gift card or game, but opportunities. These opportunities manifest themselves as a chance to work with the Dean of your university, a paid internship at a prestigious company, or maybe something as simple as getting accepted into a great research program. These are gifts that are presented to us in many ways, shapes, and forms and we should always capitalize on them. You never know what can come out of them in the short term but the implications for the long term.
