On todays Zero Limits Podcast host Matty Morris chats with Rob Mugridge 2nd Commando Regiment Born in New Zealand and raised across Australia in a military family, Rob enlisted in the Australian Army at just 17. What followed was more than two decades of service across infantry, special operations, and instructional roles—spanning East Timor, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Starting in the Royal Australian Regiment, he deployed on multiple operations to Timor and a trip to Iraq before successfully completing selection and special forces reinforcement for the 2nd Commando Regiment, where he served as a sniper, assault team leader, TAG operator, and special forces advisor. During his service as a special forces operator he deployed on mulitple combat rotations to Afghanistan, a PSD rotation and also deploying to Iraq during the ISIS offensive. Jemma Powell served 13 years with the NSW Police Force (2010–2024), graduating from the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn. Her first posting was to Central Hunter LAC, Maitland as a general duties constable. She then served at Central North LAC, Bourke and Central West LAC, Orange. Jemma responded to a wide range of complex frontline incidents—critical medicals, fatal incidents, missing-persons searches, serious crashes, search warrants and violent matters—developing resilience, sound operational judgment and decisive leadership under pressure. During his time there he deployed twice to Timor Leste. In 2008 he attempted and completed selection for the 2nd Commando Regiment also completing his reinforcement cycle training to receive his green beret. He deployed on numerous occasions on SOTG to Afghanistan and to Iraq. After an extensive career within the special forces Adam did a lateral transfer to the Victorian Police however after the academy he went straight to the Special Operations Group. On today's episode I sit down with the NSW Police Tactical Operations Unit Officer Ben Besant also known as "Officer A". He was the TOU officer who killed the Lindt Cafe terrorist and he tells us about the moment he came face-to-face with the killer who terrorised Sydney and how he also expected to die also airing his frustration as senior police hesitated while a hostage was executed. Due to the multiple current suppression orders Ben's full name and identity to an extent is still kept anonymous. Ben Beasant aka "Officer A" VA (Medal of Valor) was brought up in the Hawkesbury north-west of Sydney. 'Officer A' was in the New South Wales Police Force for nearly 20 years. The Lindt Cafe siege was a terrorist attack that occurred on 15–16 December 2014 when a lone gunman, shit bag, held hostage ten customers and eight employees of a Lindt chocolate café in the APA Building in Martin Place, Sydney, Australia. After finishing school, Lucinda began her law-enforcement journey with the Western Australia Police as an Auxiliary Officer, serving just over four years before transitioning into a full Police Officer role. She also enlisted in the Australian Army Reserves during this time, taking on the demanding role of an infantry soldier. In 2018, only eight months into her duties as a general-duties officer, Lucinda attended a high-risk incident that would change her life forever. Faced with an armed male who threatened her and her partner with a large kitchen knife, Lucinda was forced to make a split-second decision. After leaving school and working as a baggage handler, Fin decided to join the NZ Army more specifically the armoured corps. After complete basic, and specific training he was posted to Queen Alexandra’s Mounted Rifles. In 2012 Fin deployed to Afghanistan to the Bamiyan province in which 2012 tuned out to be the deadliest year for the NZ military and more specifically on this deployment 5 NZ soldiers were killed in action. After swiftly leaving the military Fin moved back to Perth and got into the fitness industry. After finishing schooling and moving into the workforce Michael had ambitions of joining the Victorian Police Force.
