This week, Josh and Drusilla are joined by a very special guest: Matt Landsman, manager of the newly re-opened Vista’s Video Archives Club and Programmer at Be Kind Video. The episode is focused on 1968’s Spirits of the Dead. From wiki: “Spirits of the Dead (French: Histoires extraordinaires, lit. 'Extraordinary Tales', Italian: Tre passi nel delirio, lit. 'Three Steps to Delirium'), also known as Tales of Mystery and Imagination and Tales of Mystery,[8] is a 1968 horror anthology film comprising three segments respectively directed by Roger Vadim, Louis Malle and Federico Fellini, based on stories by Edgar Allan Poe. From wiki: “Ghostwatch is a British mockumentary supernatural horror TV movie, first broadcast on BBC1 on Halloween night, 1992. Written by Stephen Volk, and directed by Lesley Manning, the drama was produced for the BBC anthology series Screen One by Richard Broke, Ruth Baumgarten and Derek Nelson. Despite having been recorded weeks in advance, the narrative was presented as live television[citation needed]. During and following its first and only UK television broadcast, the show attracted a considerable furor,[1] resulting in an estimated 1,000,000 phone call enquiries to the BBC switchboard on the night of broadcast, comprising a mixture of complaints and praise for the programme's unique presentation.[2] This outrage is often compared to Orson Welles' 1938 The War of the Worlds radio broadcast and the 1994 Without Warning television film, both of which also caused nationwide panic in the United States. Today the ghouls discuss a new one for both; the 1990 French flick, Baby Blood. Josh loves it and Drusilla does not. From wiki: “Baby Blood (titled The Evil Within in the United States) is a French horror film directed and co-written by Alain Robak, and starring Emmanuelle Escourrou and Jean-François Galotte. The film is about a woman named Yanka whose womb is invaded by a parasite that desires human blood. They cover the Guy Maddin ballet adaptation, Dracula: Pages from a Virgin’s Diary. From wiki: Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary is a 2002 horror film directed by Guy Maddin, budgeted at $1.7 million[1] and produced for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a dance film documenting a performance by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet adapting Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Josh and Drusilla go on a bike ride through France with Robert Fuest’s 1970 banger, And Soon the Darkness. From wiki: “And Soon the Darkness is a 1970 British thriller film directed by Robert Fuest and starring Pamela Franklin, Michele Dotrice and Sandor Elès. The plot follows two British nurses on a cycling holiday in rural France; during their trip, one of them vanishes, and the other struggles to search for her in a rural community.” But also! Drusilla did the cover for the Criterion Collection’s new release of Bound (1996). Josh moved and the two discuss the evils of landlords. This week, Drusilla and Josh discuss Lucio Fulci’s gloopy, grody classic, The Beyond (1981). From wiki: “The Beyond (Italian: …E tu vivrai nel terrore! L'aldilà, lit. "… And you will live in terror! The afterlife") is a 1981 Italian Southern Gothic[6][7] supernatural horror film directed by Lucio Fulci. It is based on an original story created by Dardano Sacchetti, starring Catriona MacColl and David Warbeck. Its plot follows a woman who inherits a hotel in rural Louisiana that was once the site of a horrific murder, and which may be a gateway to hell. From wiki: “Peeping Tom is a 1960 British psychological horror-thriller film[4] directed by Michael Powell, written by Leo Marks, and starring Carl Boehm, Anna Massey, and Moira Shearer. The film revolves around a serial killer who murders women while using a portable film camera to record their dying expressions of terror, putting his footage together into a snuff film used for his own self-pleasure.
