Every conversation I've had with Johnny always hits beyond the surface, and feels filling and life-giving. S2, E7: The Construction of Black Masculinity & Reflections

11/22/2022
In this episode I discuss The Construction of Black Masculinity and reflect on how my interest in exploring Black Masculinity led to the creation of this podcast, and the content that's created on Rethinking Manhood. Here are some of the sources that have helped shape this conversation! (And some additional articles to check out!) Collins, P. H. (2005). S2, E6: Patriarchal Masculinity & Friendship (with Josh [@cobbunplugged] & Billy [@yozefu_umubaji])

11/15/2022
In this episode I have the opportunity to sit down with my great friends and fraternity brothers Josh (@CobbUnplugged) and Billy (@Yozefu_Umubaji). Friendships are already hard; but even harder when you mix it with patriarchal masculinity. Billy, Josh, and myself discuss the way in which patriarchal masculinity influences the way that we connect with other men and masculine folks. As we are socialized into 'rigid' definitions of masculinity and manhood, we realized that the pathways for connecting with other men and masculine folks are usually through sex, sports, or politics. We've found it hard often to connect, when those topics aren't at the center. I hope that you enjoy this honest, and transparent episode! Let us know what you think! S2, E5: Patriarchy & Rest!

11/8/2022
"We are not resting to recharge so we can do more. We are simply resting because it is our divine and human right." -Tricia Hersey (@TheNapMinistry) As some of you may have noticed there was no episode last week! I would love to be able to say that this was part of the plan and that this was intentional to make this episode come alive; but it wasn't. There wasn't an episode last week, because I was burnt out. In this episode I talk about the importance of rest, and how patriarchal masculinity influences and shapes so much of our beliefs and practices around rest, I hope you enjoy this episode! S2, E4: Gentleness and Black Masculinity (with Chris @chrisdjoseph)

10/25/2022
In this episode I'm joined with Chris Joseph, a creative and community builder to discuss Gentleness and Black Masculinity. Often our society pushes boys, men, and masculine folks to reject any and everything associated with gentleness or softness; leaving many folks with having to mask themselves, or put themselves in a box that they don't want to be in. In this episode we will talk about about our experiences growing up in Christian households, navigating Homophobia, and our relationships to men and other masculine folks.
