Should I Bother?

Comedy

There’s a million things you “should” be doing, but can you be bothered? 🤔 Our plan was to stop "living for the weekend" and finally find a hobby we both enjoy. That hobby, is now a podcast, about trying different hobbies! (Or basically anything we hear people talking about, or saying you "should" try). The goal? See if they really are worth all the bother of getting up out of our comfy seats to actually try. We'll test them and discuss as many as possible, so you can stay put in aforementioned, "comfy seat"! Best Bits Bonus Bepisode

4/15/2024
Look lads, it's a very short intermission in our typical SIB schedule. We've got family visiting for a week, so that meant trying a new activity, recording the pod, editing and releasing had to take the backseat. In the words of Kimberly "Sweet Brown" Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that". What we do have for you however is a coupla best bits! So this is basically a compilation of us laughing at each other from some previous episodes. We'll be back next week as normal with episode 99: Should you bother taking Creatine? Hosted on Acast. Lymphatic Drainage Massage: As Good As TikTok Claims?

4/8/2024
For something that’s all about moving waste products from the body, lymphatic drainage massage does trigger the internal “could this be a load of sh*te” alarm. Like most TikTok wellness trends, it comes with bold promises and dramatic before and afters. And with influencers and celebrities on board using this to get “red carpet ready”, of course this was going to gain popularity. But, back to the original point - are these claims a load of sh*te? And even if they are, should you still jump on the bandwagon? Before you do and spend any of your hard earned cash, listen in to this episode. We dive into the research of why people bother with this at all and give our own two cents on whether it was worth it after trying it for ourselves. All to help you decide - “should I bother with this?” Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review! Want to get in contact? Reaching 10,000 Steps A Day: Do You Really Need To?

4/1/2024
10,000 steps a day has become this magic number in recent years that, if achieved, you can consider yourself healthier. Handy! But have you ever wondered - how many miles does that even equate to? 10,000 sounds like a f**k load. And where do you find the time?! Also, if it’s all about helping you be healthier, how many calories can you expect to burn? Or is it even a good method for weight loss? This week, instead of blindly accepting this common conception, we’re actually going to try it and see if it really is as much hassle as it seems. As always, we discuss the research to see why one would bother with this at all, followed by a very loosely related game (this week, involving Peter Kay… I did say loosely) and finished up by us talking about the experience of trying this for a week to let you know if you should bother with it too. Make sure to listen to this entire episode without standing up. It’ll be more ironic that way. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review! Aerial Yoga: Is Yoga Better With A Hammock?

3/26/2024
I’ll be the first to say it. I had no idea aerial yoga was even a thing! Performing yoga poses, 3 feet off the ground in a hammock. First thoughts are: is there any need? Second thoughts of course: Should people bother with this? Is it that different to regular mat yoga? Something we also tried on the pod nearly 2 years ago, so at least we can compare. Whats the point in the hammock? Any added benefits? Just for fun? We’re answering all these questions (also taking to Reddit to get some opinions) as well as talking about about our experience trying aerial yoga to let you know - is this something you should bother with? Growing a Herb Garden: Worth Your Thyme?

3/20/2024
We’ve all been there. You buy a basil plant thinking this will be the start of your brand new Herb Garden. A limitless supply of your favourite herbs from directly inside your kitchen. And then… it dies. And you think, “what in the actual f*ck is this?! I’ve been sold a lie!” But maybe growing a herb garden inside your kitchen, or on your windowsill isn’t quite the holy grail we all think it is. What if we didn’t just buy that Basil plant, expecting it to live forever and instead, actually bothered to learn how to keep it alive? A breakthrough moment in thinking indeed. In this episode we’re doing just that, discussing when to plant your herb garden, is it better to grow one inside or outside, what pots to use and what hydroponic herb gardens are (which honestly have the potential to be their own dedicated episode!) Do you like to cook, have an aspiring green thumb, or just have a relative called Herb? Then listen in, you cheeky pup. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Learning Sign Language Basics To Be A Better Human

3/11/2024
Over 72 million people in the world use sign language to communicate every day. Although, billions have used sign language at some point - if you count giving someone the middle finger. Outside of that though, what other sign language do you know? Do you know the sign language for please, or help? Could you use them in a full sentence such as, “Please help me learn more fu*king sign language?” We couldn’t. And that’s exactly why this week we’re taking time to learn some sign language basics and see if it’s easy enough to actually bother doing. We follow our usual routine of discussing some things we find on the interwebs, followed by a made up game - this week, it’s all about sign language curse words - before finishing off with some opinions on whether you should bother learning sign language too. We can’t promise you’ll know how to sign after listening, but you will know how to sign some common curse words - where most start with every language. Taking Magnesium as a Sleep Supplement: The Ultimate Sleep Hack?

3/4/2024
I’m guessing we’ve all had a stint of shite sleeps in our lives. And the majority of us have used at least one sleep aid or sleep supplement at some stage or another.. But which did you opt for? Over the counter sleeping tablets? Melatonin? Some sleepy or chamomile tea? One option doing the rounds on social media these days is using magnesium as a sleep supplement. And with people swearing by it, we’re taking it upon ourselves to see if it’s something you should bother your arse with too. In this episode expect to hear about things like: the research behind how magnesium helps with sleep, other sleep aid options (including sleep aids for pregnancy), a loosely related bullsh*t game steph made up, and a discussion about our experience of trying it for a week. Should you bother taking magnesium as a sleep supplement? Listen in to find out. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review! Trying Veganism: One Week of Plant-Based Living

2/27/2024
Right, so we’re all for saving the world and everything. Looking up vegan recipes isn’t too difficult and vegan restaurants are very easy to find these days. But.. Giving up bacon, chocolate and butter. Or trading in the real thing for vegan pizza or vegan burgers. Wouldn’t you rather just watch the world burn?! In this episode, we discuss the reasons why you should try veganism (in case your vegan friend hasn’t drilled you on this already), mention some of the surprising foods vegans can’t eat (white sugar??? What?!) and play our routine loosely related game of the week, before talking about our experience of actually trying to be a vegan for a week. The goal, as always - to help you decide if you should bother trying it too. P.S. If you consider yourself a “bonafide meathead”, consider calling yourself something else. Because Meathead is just a ridiculous phrase to say out loud. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review! Want to get in contact? Face Yoga: The Key To Looking Younger?

2/19/2024
Here’s one you might not have heard about. More like a massage than actual yoga, Face Yoga experts - like Koko Hayashi, for any Shark Tank fans out there - claim that 10 minutes of this a day is the key to looking younger. The question floating around the Should I Bother studio, however, is - are they talking out their hoop? (for our international listeners, this is Dublin talk for, “Are they speaking nonsense from their bum?”) As you might have come to expect by now, we’re on a quest to find the answer in our typical fashion of trying it for a week and making a decision on it. There’s a bit of scientific research mentioned, a few words said about the Face Yoga app, Luvly, a dumb game we made up in the middle, and all neatly wrapped up with our opinions on if you should bother with this or not. Want to get some practice in during the episode? With your right hand, make the shape as if you’re gripping a stick or pole. Now hold that shape and bring it to your forehead. Got it? Great. Now move that hand forward and backward from your forehead as you listen to the entire episode. Keep it up. You’ll be a Face Yoga Pro before you know it. Buying a Fitness Tracker (Like the Whoop 4.0)

2/12/2024
Remember when everyone and their Mam’s had a fitbit? Well that was the beginning of the fitness tracker craze, almost 20 years ago. And it’s come along way since. Garmin, Apple, Oura, Whoop - plenty of brands have created wearable fitness trackers to track more than just 10,000 steps a day. But are they worth the significant money you pay for them? And should you bother your arse investing in one? Since it offers a “free” trial (more on that in the episode), we decided to test out the Whoop 4.0 for 2 weeks to give our verdict. So in case you’re already sick of seeing people share their Whoop stats on instagram, now you’ve got one more to tut at. Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? Learning a New Language (Spanish) - Part 2

2/6/2024
Has it crossed your mind at all that it’s been 20 weeks since we first started to “Learn Spanish”?? Yes - the inverted commas were intended and will give you a hint into exactly how it went. Maybe if you were here you’d say, ¿Qué pasó? With the same passion and shock as your favourite telenovela character. And then we’d respond with, “What the f**k does that mean? Hablas inglés?!” We did still have a laugh though and do share some learnings on what we’d do differently if we tried to learn any language again. If you want to avoid making the same mistakes we did, have a listen amigo. If you’re not sure what’s going on, go back to part 1 (“Learning a New Language (Spanish)”) that we recorded in September. Our newest addition of “most bizarre things to try on the pod”, is laughter yoga. Doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Everyone likes to laugh! Our Experience Intermittent Fasting: Pros, Cons and Hunger Pains

1/16/2024
If you’re the kind of person that isn’t usually clued in, here’s a quick recap: In last week’s episode, we discussed why anyone would bother with intermittent fasting - discussing things we talked about online, mixed in with the other usual bit of boll*cks we like to talk. On this week’s episode, we’re talking about our experience following 5 short days of actually trying it for ourselves. Spoiler! One of us found it more difficult than the other, but you probably suspected that with all the giving out Steph did in Part 1. If Intermittent Fasting is something you’ve always heard about but never bothered your hole trying, listen into this one to make a semi-informed decision for yourself, you lazy bean. Intermittent Fasting: Why Is It So Popular?

1/9/2024
The inevitable happened again. We all ate too much over Christmas and now we’re looking for ways to reduce the consistent bloat. Well, have you thought about just skipping breakfast and eating less? Because that’s pretty much what Intermittent Fasting is (if you do the 16/8 method). Unless you’re a hardcore breakfast lover, on paper it sounds pretty easy - eat less calories by restricting the times at which you eat - but what’s it like in practice? What about the H-ANGER?! Like, have you ever heard anyone say, “Yea I was pretty much a cranky pri*k because I was hungry all the time” after they tried it? I haven’t. But is it wrong to be suspicious of that? This week, we’re looking into all the research behind why anyone would bother with Intermittent Fasting, talking our usual sh*te throughout with a very loosely related game at the end. Next week we’ll talk about our experience (and if we can confirm the “cranky pri*k suspicion”). Liked this episode or have a suggestion for something we should bother doing? We’d love your review!
