Today we’re sitting down with Alan Jaeger and Randy Sullivan to discuss their new “Jaeger-Sullivan Return to Throw Manual and Schedule”. I had the privilege of providing the Strength & Conditioning portion of this manual and I am excited to sit down and take a closer look at the manual with the two of them. Topics Include: Alan Jaeger Alan is the founding partner of Los Angeles-based Jaeger Sports, where some of the most talented baseball players in America go to improve their game. He is most famous for his trademark J-bands, used for conditioning the arm. But his influence on the game far transcends the bands that bear his name. Alan has been a steady voice in promoting many topics, including extended long-toss, throwing programs and proper recovery and conditioning for the arm. He also has a Zen-like approach to the mental side of the game, in which he teaches his players relaxing meditation techniques. Randy Sullivan Randy is the owner of the Florida Baseball Armory in Lakeland, Florida and author of the books Start with the Pain, Armory Savage Revolution and Engineering the Superhuman Pitching Machine. He is a physical therapist, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and a Motor Learning and Skill Acquisition expert. Randy has worked with thousands of baseball players of every age and experience level. He has coached sixteen first-round draft picks and over 20 Major Leaguers. Today, we’re sitting down with the Brewers Pitching and Development Coach Blake Nation. Blake was recently at the Brewers Dominican Academy working with the young Latin players. Topics include: Blake joined the Brewers in March 2023 as the Development Coach in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Prior to the Brewers, he was the pitching coach at the collegiate level for over a decade with positions at Towson, Hofstra, Florida SW State College, University of Tampa and East Georgia State College. A former 22nd round pick by the Mariners out of Georgia Southern, he pitched in the Mariners organization from 2008-11, including pitching for the high-A team High Desert Mavericks. He also played three years in independent ball, including in the North American Independent League and the Frontier League. Blake played his college ball at Georgia Southern, graduating in 2012. Today we’re sitting down with Dr. Ismael Gallo, founder of Baseball Flows. Dr. Gallo and I spoke last year (episode #33) and the response was so great that we’re sitting down again. This time we’ll discuss creating better movers on the field and training stability throughout larger ranges of motion through Dr. Gallo’s Baseball Flows. Dr. Gallo's background is unorthodox to say the least, which is what makes him so interesting. After dropping out of high school at 17, he worked his way into a starting shortstop position at Mt. San Antonio Junior College. From there, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 20th round of the 1996 draft. He played 5 minor league seasons finishing his career with a .300 batting average. After his professional baseball career concluded, Dr. Gallo received a bachelor’s in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. Thereafter, he enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Loma Linda University where he graduated with his doctorate degree. Today we’re sitting down with Notre Dame Assistant Head Coach Seth Voltz. Coach Voltz brings with him a plethora of knowledge and information, from not only a coach's viewpoint but a player's as well. Topics Include: Notre Dame Head Coach Shawn Stiffler announced the addition of Seth Voltz to his coaching staff in 2022. Voltz joined the Fighting Irish after spending the 2022 season under Coach Stiffler at VCU. Previously, Coach Voltz was an assistant coach with the Wofford Terriers from 2017-20. He helped the Terriers win the first Southern Conference Regular Season Championship in program history in 2021. Today we’re sitting down with PT, DPT, Emily Ferree. This sit-down was long overdue. So today, we’re going to discuss Emily’s take on various courses of action in adjusting mechanics for a more efficient delivery. Topics include: Emily is currently clinic director of rehab and sports performance at Movement First in Newport Beach, California. In this role she directs in-season and off-season programming for athletes, and provides rehabilitative and return to sport care and directs a state of the art biomechanics lab. Emily Ferree received her B.S. in kinesiology from USC in 2013 and went on to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at USC where she earned three merit scholarships from the division, became a USC Town and Gown Scholar, earned the division’s Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award, was awarded the Order of the Golden Cane, which is USC’s top honor for clinical excellence and leadership and graduated at the top of her class. This is a must listen… Topics Include: The upcoming 2024 season will be Coach Brown’s 12th as the pitching coach and eight as associate head coach at Vanderbilt. During his tenure, 35 Commodore pitchers have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 12 in the first three rounds. He has helped the Dores to two national championships, four College World Series finals appearances, eight NCAA Tournaments and six NCAA Super Regional appearances. Coach Brown first entered the coaching ranks after a stellar three-year pitching career at Cortland. A second team All-American in 1999 after going 9-1 with a 2.03 ERA Brown racked up 19 career victories at Cortland, a mark that tied for fifth-most in school history.
