Black History Month

Welcome to a new series of NHS Kind to Your Mind. In this episode Anyika Onuora and Emeka Onuora join Ian Brannan to talk about Black History Month and mental health. Anyika is a hugely successful athlete, she made her Olympic debut at London 2012, competing in the 100m and 200m and in 2015 won 4x400m relay bronze at the World Championships in Beijing, before adding European 4x400m relay gold and 400m bronze to her collection the following year. Her brother Emeka is a writer, journalist and lecturer on issues of racism and ethnicity in sport and author of Pitch Black: The History of Black British Footballers. Men’s Mental Health: Andy Cole

Andy Cole is one of England’s most successful footballers, as a striker for Manchester United, Newcastle United and England among others, he has won every trophy there is to be won in the English game and remains the third highest goal scorer in Premier League history. Over the last five years his health has been his biggest battle after receiving a kidney transplant which affected him mentally and physically. Now like over a million people, he is being shielded in lockdown due to his condition.
