A Different Way to Think About Speed

2/5/2026
Speed often gets misunderstood. For many women, it feels intimidating, exclusive, or “not for me.” In this episode, we’re changing that narrative. We explore speed as something playful, empowering, and accessible no matter your age, pace, or running experience. From understanding what’s happening in the body to breaking down common barriers, this conversation re-frames speed as a tool for confidence, health, and joy. Joined by two trusted experts, we dig into what speed really means for women and how small, intentional moments of faster running can have a powerful impact both on and off the run. In this episode, we talk about: Guests Dr. Juliet McGrattan is the resident women’s health expert at 261 Fearless. After 16 years working as a GP, she followed her passion for improving health through exercise and is now an international speaker, award-winning author, and health writer. Juliet is the author of Sorted: The Active Woman’s Guide to Health and Run Well, both published by Bloomsbury, with a third book coming next year. She has been the health expert for Women’s Running Magazine for over a decade, has delivered hundreds of workshops and presentations, spoken on international stages, and appeared on national television including the BBC. Marlies Hirschbeck is the sports scientist at 261 Fearless Inc. With years of experience as a coach and a deep dedication to women’s health and performance, Marlies brings both expertise and passion to the mission. Her research focuses on the effects of the menstrual cycle on endurance performance, helping translate science into meaningful, practical action for women around the world. A small challenge for the week On one run this week, add one short moment of speed, just 10 to 20 seconds. No stopwatch, no pressure. Run a little freer, a little lighter, and notice how it feels. Speed doesn’t have to be intimidating. It can be empowering, playful, and entirely your own.
