The Four-Pronged Approach That Will Diffuse Your Inner "Mean Girl"

5/1/2024
EP403: In today's episode, we're diving deep into a prevalent issue I’ve seen recently: the rise of mean behavior, especially targeting those who don’t deserve it but who are more accessible as online business owners. It's a topic close to my heart, as I've seen friends and business colleagues, like Nathania Stambouli, a devoted yoga teacher, and Valerie Trumbower, a compassionate nighttime doula, face unwarranted negativity despite their genuine intentions to serve and uplift others. It's disheartening to witness the toll such negativity takes, not just on the recipients but also on the perpetrators' own well-being and the ripple effect of that bad energy. That's why I'm sharing a fantastic four-pronged approach that addresses the physical, mental, behavioral, and energetic dimensions of this issue. By removing the tension in our bodies and training our brains to replace the impulse to lash out with acts of kindness, we not only enhance our own well-being but also contribute positively to the lives of those around us. As homework, I want to leave you with a call to action: be the kindest person you know each and every day. Let's collectively make a conscious effort to reduce our engagement with negative news and cultivate a culture of kindness both online and offline. Join with me to improve humanity in this technological society we are so influenced by and model more compassion towards others. If you'd like to hear how Nathania helps people around the world change their lives through yoga ninja moves, you can find our conversation here: https://www.notyouraveragegrandma.com/blog/episode128 If you'd like to hear about my experience attending one of Nathania's retreats in Greece, you can find our conversation about that here: https://www.notyouraveragegrandma.com/blog/episode173 If you'd like to hear about what Valerie does to help new mom's with their babies, you can find our conversation here: https://www.notyouraveragegrandma.com/blog/episode234 If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review and subscribe to (or follow) this podcast so you don't miss any new episodes. The Heartbreak of Unexpected Change

4/25/2024
EP402: In today’s episode, I share my personal journey through a profound realization that led to a heartbreak; however, not the the kind you usually associate with heartbreak. It wasn’t a romantic breakup, but a business one that resulted in a significant professional and personal shift. Initially contemplating this topic, I decided to draw guidance from energy oracle cards, and the card drawn — an upside down 'broken heart' — was a true sign that this story of renewal and hope after an unexpected and painful discovery. I recount my past four and a half years being heavily invested, both financially and emotionally, in an online business community led by a mentor I deeply admired. However, disillusionment struck as I discovered inconsistencies between the mentor's portrayed values and reality. This revelation forced me to reassess my path, leading to disengagement from the community and mentor that once defined a significant part of my identity and purpose. Throughout the episode, I delve into the process of realignment with my values, the importance of maintaining objectivity, and the necessity of being open to diverse opportunities and perspectives. Sharing the three lessons I re-learned as I move forward with my personal journey. By openly sharing my personal story of heartbreak, transition, and eventual resurgence, I aim to inspire you to embrace change, trust your journey, and remain true to yourself. Let this episode serve as an example to all that every experience, especially the most challenging ones, is an opportunity for growth and renewal. Finding Yourself And Your Potential After Living In A Cult, with Heather Rivera

4/17/2024
EP401: Meet Heather Rivera, a woman whose story is nothing short of extraordinary. I met Heather on my recent yoga retreat in Thailand and thought her story of finding her way to her authentic self, despite the pressure to be someone she wasn’t, just had to be shared as proof that true happiness can only be found when we follow our own path - no matter how winding the road may be. Raised in a cult, Heather's early years were marked by turmoil, uncertainty, and a feeling that what she was being told simply didn’t add up. Something deep inside of her had a knowing that kept her questioning the “rules” she was being told to follow. Unfortunately, the turmoil that stirred within her, led her down the path of drug and alcohol addiction as she attempted to navigate her way out of the cult, but through this difficult journey, Heather ultimately found her way to sobriety, tapping into her inner strength and unearthing her passions that led her to a fulfilling career path. In this episode we talked about: One of the most inspiring aspects of Heather's story is her unwavering belief in the value of every experience, no matter how challenging. The example of her failing business and how she’s successfully rebounded from that experience reminds us that adversity can be a catalyst for personal transformation, and there is always an opportunity around the corner, even in the darkest of times. Heather truly embodies the spirit of adventure and fearlessness, embracing new opportunities with enthusiasm and determination. But the best part is that Heather is exactly who she is meant to be, ensuring her a fully sparked future! Tune in to hear Heather's inspiring story and get inspired to stay true to yourself and walk the path that is only yours. A 30th College Reunion Question That Changed Her Life, with Delia Lloyd

2/28/2024
EP394: Today's guest is Delia Lloyd, a multifaceted professional with a rich and diverse background spanning higher education, media, policy, and the nonprofit sector. My desire to have a conversation with Delia sprouted from an article she wrote about a conversation she had with a group of college friends at her 30th reunion that started with an impromptu question posed by a classmate about long term goals. What she found unusual wasn’t the goal itself that each person shared - you’d expect different goals from a group of people who had pursued different paths in life - but the epiphany she had later, upon further reflection, about the way in which each person responded to the question. As I was reading her words, I realized I had a kindred spirit in Delia. Her goal setting style, common with go-getters and Type A personalities, wasn’t setting her up for success. And her reunion provided her with a shake-up. It created an opportunity for deep reflection that led to massive changes. Coincidentally, my 30th high school reunion did the same for me. I love it when a conversation steers someone to a new way of thinking and potentially an internal shift that comes, not instantaneously but after thoughtful contemplation. And that is what happened to Delia as a result of this conversation with old classmates. Then she took this new perspective to her computer screen and shared it openly with the world giving others, like me, helpful insights into the challenges some of us may have with goal setting. In this episode, we talk about: Listen in to gain valuable insights into Delia's experiences, discovering actionable tips to ignite your own passions and a life that aligns with your authentic self. Join me and Delia as we explore the intricacies of goal-setting, staying true to your passions, and the delicate dance between the roles of a Maker and Manager in the pursuit of a sparked second half. Why New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work!

1/4/2024
EP386: Can you believe it’s already the start of 2024? This marks 4 fantastic years of weekly conversations I've had with incredibly inspiring people who are proof that our second half can be so much more rewarding than our first if we simply listen to our heart and share our wisdom from our lived experiences. I’m beyond thrilled and grateful to embark on another trip around the sun with you and to kick it off, I’m diving deep into the concept of New Year's resolutions — and why I got bothered enough by a couple of social media posts I saw that I wanted to share my thoughts with you. Let’s set the record straight: Resolutions aren’t merely wishful thinking; they’re about setting purposeful goals and crafting actionable plans. I want to challenge the negative bias around resolutions by breaking down the key components necessary for effective goal-setting. We’ll talk specificity, the importance of tracking progress, and the magic of starting small to build sustainable habits. What's on my radar for 2024? I want to focus on 3 particular areas: health, creativity, and reading. I share why I’ve chosen these, and I urge you to come up with your own why for your resolutions because that’s all that matters and it’s what will keep you purpose-driven and unwavering in your commitment to them. No one else’s why should influence YOUR heart-centered goals which is what a resolution should be all about - what your heart wants! Be inspired by this episode to curate goals tailored to the things that bring you joy and you won't give up on by February, which is my hope for you, so you'll have your best year yet! Lock arms with me and let’s commit to making 2024 a year of growth, transformation, and sparking the best versions of ourselves!
