‘This is not justice’ — member of Coutts 3 responds

Van Herk, who faces up to 10 years in prison, says sentencing is expected in September. The trial revealed that Van Herk’s name rarely showed up in RCMP’s notes, and Van Herk says he is hoping for a lesser sentence than his friends. Alberta refuses to be bribed by Trudeau

Nixon says the province is concerned about federal interference in municipalities, which are the province’s jurisdiction, and this legislation will end that practice. He also says Alberta “won’t be bribed” to sign onto federal deals with their own money. Nixon also says the province won’t agree to new housing codes to comply with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s green agenda, saying that would increase the cost of construction and housing. As thousands of Canadians across the country took part in the protest earlier this week, Albertans took it to another level. Event organizers across various Alberta locations told True North that protesters are prepared to stay for weeks and even managed to slow down traffic considerably. However, protesters are increasingly frustrated with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who said on Tuesday that she doesn’t support carbon tax protesters stopping the flow of traffic. He has ordered a financial inspection of the city’s books and the city is currently being run by an interim administrator. The dismissed mayor and councillors allege the province began investigating their council after they found irregular spending patterns in Chestermere’s books. They also say city staff deleted emails and weren’t forthcoming with requested information. City residents say they have concerns about corruption and want the mayor and the councillors reinstated.
