5/2 Psalm 19 - God's Message in Creation and His Word

5/2/2024
How has our Lord revealed His message in our world? Through nature and His Word! Join us as we look at Psalm 19 and begin to scratch the surface of all the ways that God has revealed His message to us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentioned two terms that theologians use to describe “revelation”. What is “General Revelation”? How do we see it described in Psalm 19? 2. According to verse 1, what do the heavens “tell” and “declare”? In your opinion, what are some ways that they do this? 3. According to verse 2, what pours forth every day and night? What are some ways that we see this reality lived out in our world? 4. Verses 3 & 4 teach about the speech going out into the world. What is this speech? What are some place where we find information from God in nature? 5. Why is the daily path of the Sun so amazing? What would happen if we were just a few thousand miles closer or further from the sun? What does this show us about God’s love for our planet? 6. The podcast explained that verses 7-14 speak about what theologians call “Special Revelation”. What is Special Revelation? How is it different from General Revelation? 7. What are some of the benefits of God’s Word in verses 7 & 8? What are some ways that a person might experience God’s Word in this way? If they are not experiencing these promises from God’s Word, what would you advise them to do? 8. In verse 10, how does David cherish God’s Word? What do you think led him to have this view? How does this reflect your own view of God’s Word? 9. Why does David end this psalm talking about his errors and faults? How does God make these realities clearer in our lives? What are we to do when God shows us a place in our life that is out of conformity to His Word? 10. How does God’s Word purity our words and thoughts? Is there any place in your own life that needs further transformation to be pleasing to God? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! 5/1 Psalm 15 - Paths of Righteousness

5/1/2024
The question we all need to ask is: How does God want me to live? Psalm 15 asks that question and gives us God's profound answer. Join us as we dive into this wonderfully rich psalm! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. What is the point of the opening question of verse 1? What is the author speaking about at with terms like “abide” and “dwell”? 2. Why doesn’t the author simply answer his own question saying, “those who are in covenant with the Lord?” 3. Is this psalm, teaching some kind of works salvation? If not, then what is it teaching? 4. Verse 2 tells us, “He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart.” What does it mean to walk in integrity? What does it mean to “work righteousness?” What does it mean to speak truth in our heart? 5. Verse 3 tells us, “He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend.” How is our speech a reflection of abiding with God? How about not doing evil to a neighbor, why does that reflect a person who abides with God? 6. Have you ever had a friend annoy you? Or sin against you? How does the phrase in verse 3, “does not take up a reproach against his friend” speak to those kinds of situations? 7. When a person walks with God, how does this reality change their view of God’s enemies in verse 4? How does this reality change their view of those who fear the Lord? Why? 8. In verse 4, what does it mean to “swear to our own hurt”? Where have you had to do this in your own life? Why does this characterize those who abide with God? 9. According to verse 5, how does fellowship with the Lord affect our financial dealings? Why? 10. What is the final promise at the end of verse 5? Why would this be true of those who abide with the Lord? 11. When you reflect on Psalm 15, these statements can also be shown in reverse… those who walk in inconsistency do not abide with God. Those who walk in wickedness do not abide with God. Those who walk in falsehood do not abide with God. Those who slander others or think evilly of others, do not abide with God. We could keep going… as you reflect on these principles why can’t we abide with God and still walk in these ways? 12. Read over Psalm 15 one more time. Where are these principles true of you? Where do you need more work? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! 4/30 Psalm 2* - The Kingdom of the Son

4/30/2024
Today we dive into one of the most important Psalms! Psalm 2 points us to the reign of our glorious Lord and King, Jesus Christ! It points to the destinies of those who submit to Him and those who reject Him. Join us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentions that Psalm 2 classifies people into two groups. What are those groups? 2. Psalm 2 talks about the Davidic King. The podcast mentions that there is a near fulfillment and a far fulfillment. What are they? 3. Verse 2 mentions the anointed king. According to the podcast, what is this word? How is it also used in biblical literature? Thus, who is this psalm really pointing to? 4. This psalm is cited in the New Testament several times. Look up the following passages. How to they use this psalm? What are they teaching? a. Acts 4:25-26 b. Acts 13:33 c. Hebrews 1:5-6 d. Hebrews 5:5 e. Revelation 2:26-27 f. Revelation 12:5 g. Revelation 19:15 5. Now that we’ve established that this psalm is pointing to the Messianic King and His kingdom, why do you think this psalm occurs so early in this book? 6. In verse 3, why are the people angry about being brought before this king? 7. How does the Lord respond to them in verse 4? How does this verse strike you? Why does the Lord has such a tone? 8. Look at verse 7, “who” is speaking to “whom”? How does this help us understand the nature of the Trinity? 9. Verse 7 also talks about the king being “begotten”. Look up Acts 13:33-34. When does Paul say that the Son was “begotten”? In light of Psalm 2 and Acts 13, what does the term “begotten” point to? 10. What is given to the king in verse 8? What does this mean for the destiny of all of humanity? 11. What does verse 9 say about the destiny of those who reject this king? What does it look like to reject Him? 12. How are we to respond to this king in verse 12? What does the word “homage” indicate? Does your life reflect this principle? Are there ways you can do more “homage” to the Son? 13. What is the promise that this psalm ends on? In light of the fact that this psalm is looking to the future, what kinds of blessings do you believe are in store for these people? 4/29 Psalm 1 - The Way of the Righteous

4/29/2024
Should we listen to the advice of people who do not walk with God? We'll discuss this and more as we dive into Psalm 1 and see the profound, life-guiding gems this psalm has to offer us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. What did the podcast say about general structure to the Book of Psalms? Look over your own Bible; how does it format and organize the psalms to reflect some of this structure? 2. The podcast explained that the Book of Psalms is often classified as “Wisdom Literature”. How does this genre help us understand how the psalms are arranged and what they are intended to accomplish? 3. Glance over Psalm 1 again. Why do you think this psalm is presented first in this book? What does its position show us about its importance? 4. The podcast pointed out that there is a significant difference between not walking in the counsel of the wicked, versus not walking according to wicked counsel. What is this distinction and what difference does it make? How might a person be tempted to only avoid counsel that is “wicked” versus avoiding counsel given by the “wicked”? 5. Likewise, in verse 1, who are the wicked? In our own society, who are these people? Have you ever received counsel that might have seemed good, but you avoided it specifically because it came from a person who was not walking with God? 6. What does verse 1 mean by NOT “standing in the path of sinners?” If we were to go down this path, to what “end” would we be advancing towards? 7. How does the concept of “sitting in the seat of scoffers” build upon the idea of walking in the counsel of the wicked or standing in the path of sinners? What are these people scoffing at? Why would it be spiritually detrimental to listen to these kinds of people? 8. What does the blessed person do in verse 2? What is their delight? What do they love? What do they fill their mind with? 9. How does verse 3 characterize God’s blessings being like a tree planted by water? If a tree thrives in a hot dry climate, what can we be sure is happening below the surface of the soil? 10. What does verse 4 say about the way of the wicked? What does it mean to blow away like chaff? What blows away? 11. In verse 5, what does it mean that the wicked will not stand in judgment? Why not? 12. According to verse 6, what does the Lord know? What does this tell us about His knowledge? Why is this important to remember when facing difficult decisions? 13. When you think about the principles of Psalm 1, do you believe them? How are they currently being reflected in your life? Are there any changes you need to make in light of this teaching? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! 4/28 Job 42 - Repentance & Restoration

4/28/2024
The Book of Job asks some of life's most challenging questions... and the answers it gives call us to trust the Lord. But is there any benefit to trusting Him and obeying Him? Definitely! We'll unpack some of those benefits in today's podcast on Job 42: Job's Repentance and Restoration. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentioned that the book of Job addresses questions like, “Why is there so much suffering in this world? What kind of power does Satan have? Can I trust God, even when I don't understand Him?” Are any of these questions ones that have you asked in the past? How have you answered them? What is the Book of Job’s answers to these questions? 2. The podcast also gave the following summaries of the advice from Job’s friends: Eliphaz derived his wisdom from age and experience. Bildad derived his counsel from the wisdom of crowds and the authority of what the experts say. Zophar derived his wisdom from the pursuit of righteousness. And Elihu derived his wisdom from the pursuit of passion and zeal. Does any of this advice frame your own thinking? If so, how can you move on from that way of thinking? 3. Once the Lord begins to set the record straight in Job 38, what has He said so far? How has the question of “who?” been the ultimate answer to the question of “why?” 4. What did Job’s repentance consist of in verses 2, 3, and 6? Why were these statements necessary for Job to say to the Lord? Have you ever said these kinds of things to the Lord? Why or why not? 5. After Job’s repentance, how does the Lord restore him? What does this teach us about the Lord’s desire to bless His people? 6. Sometimes people think that bad things happen to people because they are under judgment from God. What does the Book of Job show us, instead? 7. From what you have learned from the Book of Job, how should we think of God and His plans for our life? How can you align more with this mindset? 4/27 Job 38 - When we ask "Why?"

4/27/2024
One of life's most universal questions is "Why?" That's the question Job was asking all along, but today we find out that the question he really should have been asking was "Who? Join us for today's study in a powerful passage dealing with questions we sometimes ask. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Although we have blitzed through the book of Job, at this point you probably have a good idea of the situation. What is going on in Job’s life? 2. What kinds of answers did Job’s friends offer? Why were these answers not helpful? What were they based on? How does the Lord describe their prattling in verse 2? 3. Verse 1 tells us that the Lord answered Job out of a whirlwind. Think about the last time you were in a windstorm, what would any conversation have been like with all that noise? How does this help us understand that this was truly the Lord speaking and not just some vague “impression” that Job might have had? 4. The podcast points out that one of the most common words throughout this passage is the word “Who?” It occurs 13 times in verses 2, 5, 25, 36, and 37. Glance over these verses. Who is the “who” referring to? 5. How does this help us understand shifting our questions of “why?” to “who?” Why is the answer of “who” necessary to understand the answer to the question “why?” How is the answer of “who” foundational to the answers of every other question? 6. Look over these verses. What do they tell us about the Lord’s power and character? How does knowing about His character help us trust Him when we still have unanswered questions? 7. What questions of “why?” are you facing now? (Or what questions of “why?” have you faced in the past?) How does knowing “who” God is, help you rest in those situations? 4/25 Job 19 - Seeing Our Redeemer God

4/25/2024
By Job 19, Job thinks he's at death's door and yet, he has total hope in his coming Redeemer who is God. Join us for a special excursus study in one of the Key Verses in the Entire Old Testament! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. In verse 25, when Job says that he “knows” his Redeemer lives, what does this word “know” indicate about the depth of Job’s certainty regarding this? Where do you think this kind of conviction comes from? How are you pursuing this kind of conviction in your own life? 2. In verse 25, what is a “redeemer”? How does Galatians 4:4-5 help us understand this concept more? 3. According to Colossians 1:13-14, what has Christ’s redemption accomplished? 4. The podcast explained that the word for “redemption” in verse 25 is a specific word “ga’al” which is used when the two people (the redeemER and the redeemED) who were related to each other. What does this tell us about the nature of Jesus? How does this tie back to the Lord’s promise in Genesis 3:15? 5. In verse 25, Job says that his redeemer “lives”. Given that Job was written well over 1,000 years before Christ, why is this a startling pronouncement? 6. What event is Job talking about in verse 26? What is Job saying that he believes? 7. Look up Isaiah 26:29, Ezekiel 37:12-14 and Daniel 12:2. What do these passages tell us about the resurrection? 8. According to the podcast, how is the word “see” that’s used in verse 27 a different word than the word “see” that’s used in verse 26? What might this difference indicate about the kind of sight we will have after the resurrection? 9. When you reflect on how early this book was written, how does this passage increase your own confidence in the certainty of these truths? 4/24 Job 3 - Real Suffering and Poor Counsel

4/24/2024
When we’re faced with real suffering, where do we go for answers? Today we’ll study Job 3 and see that Job was suffering deeply and although his friends tried to counsel him, their words didn’t contain God's wisdom but man's. We’ll continue to lay the foundation for how to seek the Lord in the midst of real suffering and deep questions. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. Who were Job’s friends that arrived at the end of chapter 2? 2. What did they do when they saw Job in verse 12? According to the podcast, why did they wait seven days before speaking? Can you imagine yourself waiting so long to console a loved-one who was grieving? 3. In this passage, why does Job wish he was never born? Why would Job grieve this way? What depth of grief did this reflect? 4. The podcast gave several principles for interpreting Hebrew poetry? What were some of them? How does repetition explain Hebrew poetry? 4/13 2 Chronicles 17 - Sparking A Revival

4/13/2024
What constitutes a revival? How can one initiate it? In today's discussion, we delve into the "Bible Conference Revival" that occurred during King Jehoshaphat's reign. We will explore how the faithful teaching of God's Word can empower His people in all aspects. Join us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. How did the unity we saw yesterday in 2 Chronicles 15:9 carry over into the opening verses of 2 Chronicles 17:1-2? 2. In verse 2, who did Jehoshaphat seek? Whose character did Jehoshaphat reflect in verse 3? What role do you think Jehoshaphat’s father King Asa had on the development of his own faith in the Lord? 3. How did the Lord view Jehoshaphat and what did He do for him? Why was the Lord willing to bless kings who followed Him in this way? In other words, whose kingdom were these obedient kings really serving? How do we see this principle unfold in verse 6? 4. What was the spark that lit this revival in verse 7? What was the purpose of this action? What were they teaching in verse 9? 5. In verse 7, how long was Jehoshaphat king before he sent out these teachers? Why do you think it took him this long? 6. In verse 10, what view did the surrounding nations have of Judah? Where did this come from? 7. Who brought tribute to Jehoshaphat in verse 11? Does this surprise you? Why? How does this reflect the principle of Proverbs 16:7 that the Lord will make even our enemies at peace with us? 8. How did the events of verses 12 to 19 bring strength to Judah? Given your answers in Question #3, “whose” kingdom was being strengthened? 9. It has been pointed out that revivals often follow times of darkness. What darkness had been going on in Israel and Judah? How did this darkness prepare them to embrace the light of God’s truths when taught to them? 10. Where do we have darkness in our world? How can you be part of bringing God’s truth to the people around you? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! 4/12 2 Chronicles 15 - Reconsecration to the Lord

4/12/2024
When someone drifts away from the Lord, can they be restored? Yes! Today in our study in 2nd Chronicles 15, we’ll see how King Asa led a reform that brought the people back to reconsecrate themselves to the Lord; which brought revival throughout the land. Join us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. What was the Lord’s assessment of King Asa from 2 Chronicles 14:2? How did this impact his trust in the Lord in 2 Chronicles 14:11? Why does righteousness often equate to courage? Is there a place in your life where the Lord is calling you to act with righteous courage? 2. What does Azariah say in verses 3-6 about how the Lord used the people’s “distress” to lead to them to Him? What did their difficulty look like? Has the Lord ever allowed you to go through a difficult situation so that in that, you’d return to Him? If so, when? 3. What was Azariah’s words for Asa in verse 7? How do we see him living courageously in verse 8? 4. What was the response of the people in verse 9? Why are the Tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon significant here? Why do godly people seek leaders who obey God? What kind of person do you want to unite with? What kind of people want to unite with you? 5. In verses 11-12, what was the people’s oath and covenant with the Lord? What do you think this would have looked like in the average person’s day-to-day life? 6. In verse 13, their zeal also included capital punishment for those who did not seek the Lord. How does the fact that Israel was a theocracy help us understand such a policy? If a person was totally surrendered to the Lord in the New Covenant, how would this look differently? 7. What was the response of the people in verse 15? What was the Lord’s response in this same verse? Why? 8. The podcast mentions that there was a shadow in Asa’s life that begins in verse 17 but also carries into 2 Chronicles 16. What did Asa do? Why was that out of character for him? How did the Lord respond then? How was that a fulfillment of God’s warnings back in verse 2? 9. Looking back over this chapter, it has much to say about the heart condition of various people. What do the following verses say about these people heart: a. Verse 7: b. Verse 8: c. Verse 12: d. Verse 15: e. Verse 17: 10. How do these conditions of their heart drive the Lord’s faithfulness in verse 15? Which of these heart conditions are true of you? 4/11 1 Chronicles 17 - God's Covenant with David!

4/11/2024
We serve a Triumphant King! And today we'll dig into 1st Chronicles 17 to see how this passage ties right into Jesus' Triumphal Entry and draws our focus to His ultimate kingdom. Join us as we turn to an encouraging chapter from the life of David! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentions that there are several similarities between the books of Kings and Chronicles, specifically that 1st Chronicles… focuses on David, covers both the Northern Kingdom and Southern Kingdom, seeks to explain Israel’s downfall in terms of how they broke their covenant with God, and was written around the time of the return from exile to remind the people that they were still God’s covenant nation. Why do you think these points were needed as God’s people returned from exile? 2. The podcast also mentions that an underlying purpose of the book of 1st Chronicles was to show that just as God was faithful to His promises to bring judgment, He would also be faithful to bring restoration. How would this have given the people hope in their time of exile? 3. Since we’ve already discussed the Davidic covenant from 2nd Samuel 7 a few weeks ago, as you have come to today’s study in 1st Chronicles 17, what is your understanding of its significance? 4. In verse 4, what does the Lord tell David regarding His reasons for not having David build a temple? What does this show us about the priority the Lord places on fancy buildings? 5. In the past, we’ve explained that a “Covenant” is a formal set of promises that one (or more) people make to another. In this passage, the Lord makes 8 key promises. In the space below, write the gist of each promise for each verse: a. Verse 8: b. Verse 9: c. Verse 10: d. Verse 11: e. Verse 12: f. Verse 13 (#1): g. Verse 13 (#2): h. Verses 14: 6. Having just finished our study of 1st and 2nd Kings, how many kings in those books fulfilled these promises (hint: You don’t have to look up the reigns of any kings to answer this question)? Who is the only King who fulfilled these 8 promises? 7. How has Jesus fulfilled some of these promises already? How will the rest be fulfilled? 8. In light of these promises, how can you praise the Lord today? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon!
