Georgi Markov

4/30/2022
Episode 25 Georgi Markov Join Eileen from the CrimeLapse podcast as she discusses a case that is beyond bizarre – the death or Bulgarian playwright Georgi Markov. Markov, a Bulgarian dissident who had defected to England, was living in London and working for the BBC Bulgarian service. He also freelanced for Radio Free Europe, a western-centric broadcast news company that was critical of the government in his native Bulgaria. In September 1978 he was taken to a London hospital, where he died of blood poisoning. Before he died, Markov made sure doctors noted a small puncture mark on his thigh, which he said resulted when he was stabbed with the tip of an umbrella by a man he did not know. He came down with a fever within hours of the contact with the umbrella. And sure enough, a post-mortem revealed a metal pellet in his leg, believed to have been shot by a sophisticated gun. The tiny projectile was believed to contain ricin, and the attack on Markov was labeled a homicide. Who killed Georgi Markov? After befriending her, Lois shot Pam Hutchinson in a hotel room and stole her car and credit cards so she could support her life on the lam – and her gambling habit. When police entered the home, they found the house filled with more than 100 bags of leaves, piles of leaves throughout the house, and dead squirrels in the freezer. Patsy Wright

1/29/2022
Episode 12 Patsy Wright This host for this episode is Justin Rimmel from the Mysterious Circumstances podcast. Join Justin as he discusses a case that is beyond bizarre – the murder of Patsy Wright. In 1987, Patsy and her sister Sally owned two lucrative wax museums in Texas. At around 3:00 AM on October 23rd, 43-year old Patsy called Sally and told her that she had taken some NyQuil to help her sleep – as she often did – but that now she felt ill. While on the phone with Sally, Patsy collapsed. By the time Sally and her husband Steve arrived at her home, Patsy was incapacitated, and she died soon thereafter. An autopsy found that she had been poisoned with strychnine put into her NyQuil bottle. There were – and are – several suspects in her case: her two ex-husbands; her boyfriend; her brother-in-law; or someone else. A tray with two plates was found in her bedroom, as though she had hosted a guest. Several of these suspects had a motive, including the ownership of the wax museums and testimony that Patsy was scheduled to give in a trial, but police were never able to solve her case. Who killed Patsy Wright? Episode 11 Carl Tanzler The hosts for this episode are Dr. Shiloh & Dr. Scott from L.A. Not so Confidential. Join the doctors as they explore a case that is beyond bizarre - that of Carl Tanzler. In the late 1920s, Tanzler was a doctor in a Florida hospital when he became infatuated with a young tuberculosis patient named Elena Hoyos. When Elena succumbed to her illness in 1931 Tanzler paid for her funeral and the construction of an elaborate mausoleum where she was interred. He visited the crypt nightly, using his key to access it. But after two years, in 1933, he stole Elena’s body and brought it home. There he took measures to make the body appear lifelike, attaching the limbs with wire and using perfume to overcome the stench. He lived for the next few years with the corpse, treating her as his wife. Elena’s family did not discover the theft of her body for seven years.
