3/29/2024
Joining us in the studio is none other than Matt, also known as the Wizard of Iz—yes, with one Z! This urban explorer isn't your average adventurer; he's more like the Indiana Jones of abandoned spaces, except he trades the fedora for a Hawaiian shirt and the whip for a sense of mischief. In this mind-bending episode, Matt regales us with stories that sound like they're straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster. Picture this: playing high-stakes hide and seek with security guards, spreading Christmas cheer by leaving gifts for fellow explorers in the most unexpected places, and hosting a pool party... on the roof of Kings Park! Yes, you heard that right—nothing says "party" like a pool with a view of the city skyline and a side of trespassing. But wait, there's more! Ever heard of undercover cops masquerading as urbexers? Matt has, and he's got the inside scoop. Plus, he takes us behind the rusted bars of Cresson Prison, unveils the chilling mystery of the missing autopsy table, and recounts the harrowing tale of spending eight hours hiding in a closet, only to leap out of a second-floor window to escape an angry owner wielding a hammer. Talk about a great escape! And if you thought Matt's adventures couldn't get any crazier, think again. He'll share the unforgettable tale of how he accidentally chopped off his thumb at an abandoned power plant. Ouch doesn't even begin to cover it! So, grab your popcorn, buckle up, and prepare to be transported to a world where the extraordinary is just another day in the life of the Wizzard of Iz. This is one episode you won't want to miss! UrbEx DEBATE 4 - Dick riding, what is a grifter, Lynnewood Hall, Cresson Prison, Zillow, Nick’s Stalker, Urbex friends break-ups, lock-picking, being falsely accused, graffiti community and many MORE!

12/31/2023
Welcome, fellow urban adventurers, to another captivating debate episode. Today, our panel of intrepid explorers, featuring Nick (karmacula), Dave (freaktography), Tommy (moldy_lungs), Justin (ihatejustincurtis) and the host of the Chasing Bandos Podcast, Greg Abandoned, is ready to embark on a journey through the heart of urbex mysteries. First up, we unravel the essential urbex terminology — delving into the intriguing realms of "dick riders" and "grifters." What do these terms mean in the context of abandoned exploration, and who among our intrepid quartet falls into these categories? Moving on to the enigma that is "Urbex Con," we question its necessity, especially in the seemingly non-urbex hub of Texas. Who runs it, and what's the agenda behind this unconventional gathering of urban explorers? Our gaze then shifts to the famed Lynnewood Hall, the 'Titanic Mansion,' exploring not just the tragic history but the scandalous prices one must pay to visit. What secrets lie behind its dilapidated walls? Cresson Prison, once a haven for explorers, now faces a conflict of ownership. Who are the new proprietors, and what sparks the tension between the old and new guards of this abandoned institution? As we navigate the moral compass of exploring abandoned houses, we ponder the ethical dilemmas of invading privacy versus the allure of these forgotten homes as the last frontiers of exploration. The debate intensifies with a showdown between Bill Finan and Keeper - what sparks this ongoing feud, and is resolution on the horizon? Intrigue deepens with the revelation of a canceled second boxing match involving Keeper and the mysterious Ronnie Walker. What's the deal behind these canceled bouts, and what drama awaits? Nick's stalker takes center stage, prompting a reflection on the diverse individuals joining the urbex community and the potential links to mental health issues. Are we all wanderers, or do shadows lurk in our midst? The modern exploration dilemma surfaces: Is urbex about "getting the shot," risking the loss of the true essence of exploration for the perfect photograph? Exploring with companions becomes a battleground of pros and cons, exploring the delicate balance that can lead to friendships flourishing or fading away. False accusations cast a shadow over the urbex community. Is it a breeding ground for baseless allegations, and can a misstep lead to undeserved scrutiny? The podcast shines a light on the graffiti community from the urbex perspective. Is graffiti more than mere vandalism, transcending into an art form that lives within explorers' pictures? We grapple with the etiquette of asking for a spot, the discomfort that surrounds it, and the instances when seeking location advice is deemed acceptable. The debate expands to the art of lock-picking — Is it a valuable skill in the urbex toolkit, and when is it ethically acceptable to use it to open up new spaces? Roof-topping takes center stage as we weigh the risks against the reward of experiencing breathtaking views from precarious heights. Contemplating the future of the hobby, we question whether new blood is needed in the urbex community and whether seasoned explorers are willing to guide newcomers into this intriguing realm. The podcast explores the dynamics of taking a large group to an abandoned place—weighing the pros and cons of turning exploration into a party versus treating it as serious business. We tackle the burning question of whether smoking while exploring is acceptable and ponder whether doing sports with permission still qualifies as urbex. So, fasten your seatbelts, dear listeners, as we unravel the threads of urban exploration in this debate episode. In this episode of the Chasing Bandos Urbex Podcast, a panel of four Australian urban explorers—Jims, Trespvss, Steak, and Mariachi — engage in a lively discussion on various urban exploration-related topics. They start by sharing their experiences dealing with homeless people and scrappers commonly encountered in abandoned buildings. The explorers consider strategies for managing these encounters and the challenges they pose. Safety concerns and preparedness are key points of discussion. Another topic explored is the potential need for rules, guidelines, or a code of ethics within the urban exploration community. The panel debates the advantages and challenges of creating and enforcing such standards. The ethical dilemma of taking items from abandoned locations is also addressed, with the explorers sharing their perspectives on whether this practice is akin to rehoming or simply stealing. PYRAMIDEN 1 - Exploring a Soviet Ghost Town at the End of the Arctic World

10/6/2023
Welcome to today's episode, which is all about Pyramiden. So, what is Pyramiden? It's a former Soviet mining settlement located in the Arctic Circle on the Svalbard archipelago. This place is a ghost town, frozen in time. The Russians used to mine coal from Pyramiden, a settlement they bought from Sweden. Due to various circumstances, including an airplane disaster in 1996, the decision was made to close all operations. Fast forward to 2007, the owners decided to embark on new operations, this time linked with tourism. This summer, I invited nine of my former podcast guests on a trip to the Arctic to experience this remarkable place — an experience that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time to the era of the Cold War. You'll have the opportunity to see what living in Soviet Russia was like, with all the relics of the past left behind. In this podcast, we'll highlight the events of this trip and share the best moments of this adventure. Sara recounted a thrilling encounter with a wild boar in Spain, narrowly escaping a cliff's edge. She also talked about an asylum in Sweden, and its famous "black storm building," and a humorous encounter with unaware politicians. Over nearly two decades, he has diligently documented decaying theaters in America and actively works to revive them. Matt collaborates with theater owners and offers photography workshops. Bilph Intervention - birthday grilling of Bill Finan, what happened at Vermont Radar Base, Truth behind the Boxing Match, is he an Evil Genius or just a Troll, his discord group and more!

7/2/2023
In this highly anticipated third annual episode of the Chasing Bandos podcast, we are join by Bill Finan as he celebrates his birthday in a unique and memorable way. This time, the episode takes a different approach as Bill is joined by a panel of three American explorers: reel-master Alex (dragonboyac), Ninja Nick (karmacula), and Ghostly Sonny (xplorewithsonny). Together, they delve into intriguing stories and address some pressing topics. Bill begins by addressing two significant incidents from the previous year. He recounts his adventure exploring an abandoned radar base in Vermont, where he found himself unexpectedly left behind. He shares the challenges he faced during that exploration and sheds light on the lessons he learned from the experience. Additionally, he opens up about why he was uninvited to the UrbEx boxing match between Keeper and Jimmy, providing listeners with an exclusive insight into the circumstances surrounding that decision. The episode takes a deep dive into the dichotomy between Bill's online persona and his real-life self. Bill's online presence often portrays him as a victim and manipulator who is downplaying his abilities as an explorer and creating a perception that he is the worst in the field. However, his fellow panelists, especially Sonny, express their surprise and admiration for Bill's actual skills and capabilities. They acknowledge that Bill is just as competent as any other explorer, debunking the misconceptions perpetuated by his online persona. One of the crucial topics discussed during the episode revolves around Bill's Discord group. The panel engages in a thought-provoking conversation about the controversial practice of sharing location information with others. Nick raises a valid concern about how copper thieves exploit Bill's Discord platform to locate and steal valuable metals from abandoned places, resulting in the degradation of these sites. This discussion sparks reflection on the responsibilities that come with sharing information within the exploration community. What begins as a sort of intervention for Bill's self-perception and online persona ultimately transforms into a positive reflection on his growth as an explorer. The episode concludes on a heartwarming note as the Chasing Bandos Podcast family extends their heartfelt birthday wishes to Bill.
