The guest on this week’s program is Kala Allen Omeiza, who is truly wonderful. A graduate of Miami University and the University of Oxford in the UK. Kala has also contributed to numerous autism and mental health studies at Harvard Medical, Harvard, Duke, and as a US full Bright Scholar in Nigeria’s World Health Organization Collaborating Center. At the age of 24, she was also diagnosed with autism. As an American citizen who also enjoys writing, she recently released the book “Afrotistic,” a book about a black teen girl with autism. In this episode, we'll talk about her experience of getting a diagnosis as an adult, navigating higher ed, and her incredible young-adult novel Afrotistic. Today, we have Natasha Nelson, a certified Positive Discipline educator and trainer candidate, veteran military spouse, and autistic mother to two autistic Black girls. She has over seven years of leadership experience in the United States Army and has practiced positive discipline in her home and village for five years. She has blogged her entire experience with motherhood and was featured in Oprah Magazine, Parent Magazine, Black Parent Magazine, and NBC Atlanta Eleven Alive. She created Supernova Momma to help Black and neurodiverse families break generational curses from systemic racism and ableism and raise children in a mutual, loving, empathetic, and respectful environment using her prompt need system.
