414 Bryn Roshong "Solid Ground Farm and Food Access"

2/16/2026
Today's guest on The Feminine Frequency is Bryn Roshong. She lives on her family's farm in Lomontville with her husband, Wes Hannah, and two kids. She has spent the last 15 years working in and up against the food system as a farmer, farmer policy advocate, and in industrial-scale food manufacturing. She is co-owner with Wes of Solid Ground Farm, a four-season diversified organic veggie farm in Marbletown, stewarding 25 acres and employing 6 full-time farm staff. At the farm, she serves in roles outside the fields, supporting the farm's bookkeeping, mission, and communications. Since 2021, after eight years working in operations at a former food processing facility called The Farm Bridge, Bryn has been working with a great team at Community Food Works, building community-focused food processing infrastructure in Kingston to strengthen the local agricultural economy and make local food accessible to as many community members as possible. She enjoys hanging out with her family at home and in the woods, and volunteering with a few local organizations: the Kingston farmers market board, Marbletown's Community Preservation Advisory Board, advisory committee for Growing Homes, and political advocacy working group of the HV Young Farmers Coalition. We get to hear about how Bryn (and Wes) went from labor organizing to farm working to running their own farm supported by a team of dedicated farmers. We learn about the work Bryn has done and is doing to create a more self sustaining food system in the Hudson Valley which includes a deeper understanding of how food banks and food pantries work. I had no idea! Bryn is also well versed in the inherent racism in the farming industry and sheds light on how the Federal Government's efforts to reverse DEI has impacted beneficial food programs that were bringing more equality to farming and food access. How does she do it all while also being a mom to two young children? She's starting to find ways to receive help despite the personal challenges and perspectives that created the "I can and must do it all" attitude. Who else can relate??? (We do.) More on that, but for now, we hope you enjoy our conversation with Bryn. You can learn more about the Farm and their CSA program here. Here's your New Moon Solar Eclipse astrology. 413 "Miracles and Love" with Marielena Ferrer

2/9/2026
It's my last on air show with Marielena Ferrer! We started this monthly conversation about Spirituality and Politics, the art of living and the art of living together, nearly 5 years ago in April 2021. It's been a wonderful and expansive exploration of subjects that are near and dear to my heart and my sense of curiosity. We chose to end our run with a conversation about Miracles. We'd given ourselves homework to explore A Course in Miracles, but I had a hard time digesting it, even Marianne Williamson's interpretation of it. But that didn't stop us for working through some of the meaning of the text and overall, what miracles are and how they relate to the art of living. Related to the conversation is the concept of Love which you might say is the art of living together. Perhaps from a scientific perspective, it is the glue that holds us together. We'll be continuing our conversation at Unison Arts beginning on March 6, 2026 and in the podcast once my radio show sunsets. Stay tuned for more! Some resources: Perceiving Reality through Kabbalah. 412 Artist and Educator Koyoltzintli "Flowing Into Her Path"

2/2/2026
Today on the show I get to spend time with Koyoltzintli. She is an interdisciplinary artist and educator living in Ulster County, New York. She was raised on the Pacific coast and in the Andean mountains of Ecuador. Her work revolves around sound, ancestral technologies, ritual, and storytelling, blending collaborative processes with personal narratives. Nominated for the Prix Pictet in 2019 and 2023, her work has been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, the United Nations, the Parrish Art Museum, Princeton University, the Aperture Foundation in NYC, and Paris Photo. She has had two solo shows at Miyako Yoshinaga Gallery and a solo show at Leila Greiche in 2023. Koyoltzintli has taught at CalArts, SVA, ICP, and CUNY. She has received multiple awards and fellowships, including at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, NYFA, We Women, the Latinx Artist Fellowship by the US Latinx Art Forum (USLAF), and most recently, the Anonymous Was a Woman award. Her first monograph, Other Stories, was published in 2017 by Autograph ABP. Her work was featured in the Native issue of Aperture Magazine (no. 240) and included in the book Latinx Photography in the United States by Elizabeth Ferrer, former chief curator at BRIC. She is part of Flow States – LA TRIENAL 2024, El Museo del Barrio’s second large-scale survey of Latinx contemporary art. Koyoltzintli has performed at venues such as the Whitney Museum, Wave Hill, Socrates Park, Brooklyn Museum, and Queens Museum. Recently, she performed at Performance Space in NYC, curated by Guadalupe Maravilla, at Dia Chelsea for the closing event of Delcy Morelos' El Abrazo, and at Ann Street Gallery in Newburgh, NY. During our conversation, Koyo shares about her family, her childhood, how her travels with her father and the rooting into her ancestral lands with her mother helped to shape who she is today. We learn about her dear elders who she both photographed and studied with, and how they played a role in the work she does today with clay and indigenous sounds. While Koyo shares some of the stories of her days as a photojournalist, it would seem that we barely scratched the surface of all that flows from and through her. You can follow along with her offerings and creations by way of her website and social media. Stay tuned for details of an upcoming show in April! Here's the info on her Egg Cleansing Ritual at Spiral Mirror on February 16th. Here are your Full Moon vibes. Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org. 411 The Feminine Frequency "The Year of the Fire Horse: Community, Care, Love and Nonviolence"

1/26/2026
Today, Theresa and Jennifer are discussing the Year of the Fire Horse and what that might mean for how we move through the year. First, what are we hearing and feeling about the Fire Horse? High-energy, sometimes chaotic, transformation, bold changes, breaking old patterns... It's an excellent time for self care and community care and maybe incorporating some white or blue into your life to balance the fiery red. How may we choose to show up in a big collective community care way? Protesting, activism, nonviolence. Erica Chenoweth is someone Theresa refers to when thinking about countering the violence with non-violence. We discuss what makes a successful nonviolent movement: 1. the ability to organize large scale participation and build momentum, 2. ability to illicit loyaltyships in key pillars of support. 3. maintain resilience even under violence. 4. innovate beyond street demonstrations. Playbook of every successful non-violent struggle. Jennifer think about the different roles we might play when engaged in a movement as outlined in the Social Change Ecosystem Map. And is inspired by the wisdom shared by Valerie Kaur and her philosophy on Revolutionary Love: Three Different Tenets to it. Loving Self, Love for Others, Love for your Opponents. 410 Jackie Geraci "Music and Theater Educator"

1/19/2026
Today on the show I get to sit down with Jacqueline Geraci. Jackie grew up in Port Ewen and attended Kingston City Schools, then went to college, earning both a bachelor’s and master's degree in music education from the Crane School of Music. She previously served as Director of Bands and Musicals at St. Joseph’s before getting hired in Kingston where she is currently a middle school band director at Bailey Middle School, an assistant director of the drama club at Bailey, a staff member for the KHS Marching Band, and the director and choreographer of Musical Theatrics at KHS. Today, Jackie shares how and why she became a teacher, who mentored her along the way, and some of the highlights of her work. I learned soooo much about the inner workings of school music and drama programs and have a deepened respect for what they do and how they are shaping our future. 409 Fire, War, Miracles "Spirituality and Politics"

1/12/2026
It's time for Spirituality and Politics with Marielena Ferrer and I. Today we talk about how we're letting go of last year and entering this year by way of our New Year/Solstice wish rituals. We ponder fire as portal into another dimension, why we wish for things, the purpose of a wish and what we feel permission to wish for. Because Marielena is from Venezuela, we dip our toe into the complexities of the political situations we find our country in, and how our inner children are relating to them. We end with some New Moon Vibes and a contemplation of miracles. More on that next month for our final show! Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org. 408 Corinna Barsan "Aligned Light"

1/5/2026
This week on the show I am joined by Corinna Barsan, an Akashic Records reader, Crystal Resonance therapist, spiritual medium, and Reiki practitioner. She is also an independent book editor and writing coach, having worked in publishing for 15 years and in the MFA Writing Program at Columbia University. She lives and works in Kingston, NY, where she is the co-creator of Spiral Mirror, a metaphysical used bookstore and community space that she opened with her husband, Dan Chung, in March 2025. Corinna and I talk about her childhood when she first began to connect with spirits and guides, and why she quieted those voices until she finally felt permission to embrace that part of herself. After finding herself misaligned with her professional career, Corinna began a long and ever evolving journey to reconnect with herself. We talk about what she did, and what she learned along the way including how she embraced and moved beyond the fear that kept her misaligned. She shares with us how the seeds of Spiral Mirror came to fruition and all the goodness they offer there. You can connect with her and her offerings at Aligned Light. Today, I get to sit down with returning guest, JoAnn Stevelos, MS, MPH. She is a writer, public health advisor, and researcher whose work sits at the intersection of survival, spiritual terror, radical repair, and relational hope. With more than twenty years’ experience in nonprofits, government, public health research, bioethics, and education, she uses her training to help create a culture of health through innovative solutions that treat health as a fundamental human right. Her Robert Wood Johnson Foundation–funded work in Aotearoa New Zealand inspired her to adopt a Samoan proverb as a north star: “Solutions for the community come from the community.” JoAnn is currently the Executive Director of the Andrew Levitt Center for Social Emergency Medicine. She has served in key leadership roles including Executive Director of the Coalition for Supportive Care of Kidney Patients at George Washington University; Director of the NYS Center for the Prevention of Childhood Obesity; Director of Evaluation for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign; and Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor for the RWJF-funded Comprehensive Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Mitigation program in New Zealand. 406 The Feminine Frequency of Wintering

12/22/2025
It's time for the Feminine Frequency when Jennifer Mulak and I wander through a subject that's near and dear to our hearts, Winter. Inspired by the book Wintering by Catherine May, we talk about Winter's meaning and how we "intend" to shift our own ways of being during this special time of darkness and rest. But, first, we check in on how we spent the Solstice, and appreciate how ritual can have meaning even when there's not a lot of extra time for it. We consider what "rest" is, and how we relate to it, how we notice and redirect that internal voice that is stuck in habits that don't currently serve, the Wintering times in life that do not necessarily coincide with the Winter season, and contemplate the meaning of Kim Kran's Archetype card, "The Faultline" which I pulled last week for this season. Had to do a last minute pivot for today's show when my planned guest was unable to join, so as I've done in year's past, I'll be bringing some solstice vibes to the airwaves. Inspired by some recently spotted social posts about the erasure of European spirituality by way of Christianity, and stumbling upon some ancestral (German) practices for this time of the year, I bring you today's show with solstice happenings and age old traditions. Past guest, Anastasia Wasko is offering an online creative writing workshop, Bringing Light to Darkness on Sunday, the 21st between 12-2 Eastern. Past guest MuggaRose is offering free shipping from her website using code IAMYOURWITCH2025. Strange Love Shop in Saugerties, is offering Aura Photos / Readings and if they mention Kingston Radio she'll honor a special B1G1 1/2 off on any aura package or Aura gift /mix and match! Spiral Mirror is offering two solstice events, Earth Oracle Readings by Liridona 1-4pm on the 21st and a Winter Solstice Gathering in collaboration with Jaguar Mary X from 6:30-8:30pm. 404 "The Emerald Tablet" with Eliza Swann and Marielena Ferrer

12/8/2025
For our second to last Spirituality and Politics on Radio Kingston, Marielena and I are joined by returning guest, Eliza Swann - writer, educator, artist and alchemist, to continue our conversation into The Emerald Tablet. Last month on the show, we focused on the first paragraph of the Tablet. Today, we revisit it with Eliza, who shares their depth of knowledge and experience in working with the text. Eliza then carries us into the second paragraph with a strong analogy that helps to make sense of this somewhat esoteric text, the bridge between the ineffable and the mundane. "True, without falsehood, certain and most true, that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, for the performance of the miracles of the One Thing. And as all things are from One, by the mediation of One, so all things have their birth from this One Thing by adaptation. The Sun is its father, the Moon its mother, and the Wind carries it in its belly, its nurse is the Earth. This is the father of all perfection, or consummation of the whole world. Its power is integrating, if it be turned into earth. Thou shalt separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, suavely, and with great ingenuity. It ascends from earth to heaven and descends again to earth, and receives the power of the superiors and of the inferiors. So thou hast the glory of the whole world; therefore let all obscurity flee before thee. This is the strong force of all forces, overcoming every subtle and penetrating every solid thing. So the world was created. Hence were all wonderful adaptations, of which this is the manner. Therefore am I called Hermes Trismegistus, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. What I have to tell is completed, concerning the Operation of the Sun." Tune in to our last on air Spirituality and Politics conversation on January 12th as we welcome in a new year and new beginnings. While this show will conclude its on air presence at Radio Kingston at the end of January, it will continue as a podcast, and Marielena is sure to return for more conversations as we move forward in a new way. 403 Amanda Marlowe "Eco Art and Cycles of Life"

12/1/2025
Today on the show I get to chat with Amanda Marlowe! She guides thoughtful art experiences that ask kids life's big questions. She develops curriculum for nature non-profits schools, museums, and businesses. Amanda holds a BSA in Philosophy and Education from Skidmore College and is currently writing a children’s book on death. Her business, Eco Art, is a thoughtful art experience on sustainability and impermanence for kids. A trash art offering designed to interact with the byproduct of creation. All bits and bobs upcycled. Materials supplied, though feel free to byot (bring your own trash)! Amanda shares how and why she began to work with children through the medium of upcycled art. It began really out of her own processing of her birth mother's death and a curiosity about what to do with her belongings. Our conversation touches on themes of grief, loss, letting go, and cycles of life. She also works with children who have lost a loved one, and works with a team of folks at Roula's Kids to support them through their grieving process. It feels important to mention that during our conversation, something opens up for me, and the tears began to flow. We left unresolved her resistance to the label artist, and are still unpacking what to do with the "shoulds" that surface from time to time. Clearly there's more for us to talk about. I could listen to her share her creative ideas for what to do with leftover toys and arts supplies for hours and am excited to try my hand at making paper! You can find her Mondays at CCE, High Meadow School and contact her for your kiddos special event or if you have items you think she might enjoy transforming with her clients. 402 Liridona Duraku "Land Divination"

11/24/2025
It's our monthly chat about The Feminine Frequency with Jennifer and Theresa! Joining us today in conversation is Liridona Duraku, a first generation Albanian American. She currently lives in the Hudson Valley and spends most of her time outdoors studying the local fauna. Liri received a BA from CUNY York in Journalism and Political Science but found herself working in mostly activist spaces. She has a professional background in the food industry, farming and hospitality. Recently she did further study as a special student at SUNY New Paltz studying art and psychology. Liri is also an herbalist. As a child, herbal remedies and natural medicine was part of her upbringing, she often heard stories of women healers and even got to know a few. She blends her ancestral Balkan knowledge with the various herbal trainings she has done. She has studied with Vanessa Chakour of Sacred Warrior in Brooklyn and Scotland, Clinical Alchemy with Evolutionary Herbalism, Ayurveda with Tribe Yoga in Rishikesh, India, Astro-Herbalism with Judith Hill and Wild Gather in the Hudson Valley. Liri has published fiction and non-fiction writing and shown work in small local galleries. Her work is primarily oil paintings, charcoal and pastel drawings but recently has been playing in forms of ceramics and sculpture of various materials. She draws inspiration from her experience of diaspora, a child of (non-documented) immigrants fleeing war and ethnic cleansing. She brings in imagery, ritual and mysticism of Balkan culture and themes of plants, animals, folklore, myth and magic can be seen throughout her work. Today we get to hear about what Land Divination is and how Liri began communicating with the land and its many occupants. The conversation weaves through some of the practical, and often the magical of being in right relationship to the land, plants and animals. She offers monthly Earth Oracle readings and Land Divination workshops at Spiral Mirror in Kingston, NY, as well as an online Land Divination course. You can find her paintings, ceramic work and herbal potions for sale on her website as well as at Pink Clementine in Kerhonkson, NY, Feast and Floret in Hudson, NY and soon at Holding Space in Kingston, NY. Liri offers private reading and ritual sessions as well as custom aura paintings. Contact lirimeansfree@gmail.com for any other inquiries. Here's the article I mentioned about the Origins of Thanksgiving and the perspectives of 7 Native Americans. And lastly, the Red Feather Drummers hold monthly talks at the Old Dutch Church. 401 Nicole Nyhan "Kundalini Awakening"

11/17/2025
Today I get to speak with Nicole Nyhan (they/she) who underwent a Kundalini awakening in 2021 that radically transformed their life. This consciousness and healing journey ultimately led to the creation of The Bridge, a space built to foster individual and communal healing, restoration, and connection. We get to learn about what Nicole's life looked like prior to their awakening as an agnostic materialist. Then they walk us through some of the events that were likely contributing catalysts for this sudden and unexpected physical and psychological shift. Nicole has spent a lot of time trying to make sense of the physical and emotional experiences they were having. She shares what's she's learned and ponders the meaning of it with me. We also get into the magic that conjured The Bridge and all the goodness that happens there: cacao, breathwork, womb circles, Queer Witch Club, yoga, Venus Day, astrology, community connection and lots more. Nicole along with the good people and Spiral Mirror also offer monthly opportunities for connection with others who've had similar awakening moments. 400 "The Emerald Tablet" with Marielena Ferrer

11/10/2025
It's Episode 400!!! A perfect day for Mariaelena and I to finally dive in to...The Emerald Tablet of Hermes. It's something she has been referring to from the days of us first plotting this monthly collaboration, and since I started to explore alchemy, it's been of interest for me to go deeper. This is the translation we're working from for purposes of our conversation. What I have to tell is completed, concerning the Operation of the Sun." Marielena ties the Tarot to the Tablet, and we work through some of the meaning and purpose of the text. This may be cringy for those of you well steeped in the text, but it's a window into the beginner's mind and how someone, like myself, is coming to it seeking an understanding of how it's relevant to the art of living. We explore the notion of the "One Thing," what are miracles, and what it means to be perfected. Is it a formula for creating, for being like "GOD?" We've got more to go and will continue in our next conversation in December. Today’s show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org. Our show music is from Shana Falana! 399 Michele Zipp "Resisterhood" and Mothh and KWD "The Oldest Profession"

11/3/2025
Woah, this is a show FULLLLL of goodness today! First up is Michele Zipp, a Wedding Officiant and ritualist, Reiki Master, writer, editor, and founder of Resisterhood New Paltz. They are well into their Red Tent Drive where the community comes together to donate menstrual hygiene products for those in need. All donations go to Family of New Paltz and their affiliates. Historically, this drive helps folks at Family throughout the year until the next drive. That’s where you come in … helping them by donating maxi pads or money so they can purchase pads. Pads only as per Family and what’s most requested and needed. They'll be celebrating the end of their drive with a Period Party, hoping to push the donations over the top, and celebrating their partners all in the name of dignity and love on Sunday, November 16th from 1pm until 2:30pm at Redeemer Church in New Paltz. With performances by Perennial and Resisterhood Community Choir featuring members of the B2s! Enter to win their amazing raffle — dinner and grounds tickets for two at Mohonk Mountain House. Enjoy some sweet treat offerings in our Bake Sale. A box/bag of pads will get you in the door (or a $10 suggested donation). Raffle tickets for Mohonk are $20.The drive ends November 30th and red tent boxes are located at Elting and Gardiner Library, The L Salon, Lush, Chroma, JEM, and Le Shag in Kingston. The flexibility of their work has allowed them to be a dedicated community organizer: distributing medical supplies and meals to working class comrades and unhoused neighbors. Joining with The Ishtar Collective in 2022 created a path beyond local efforts and into state legislative and cultural initiatives to humanize and decriminalize erotic laborers and their clients. She is passionate about inclusive community organizing and invites you to reach out by email to learn more and get involved! kwd@ishtarcollective.org Our conversation serves as an introduction to the issues faced by and harm caused to sex workers by way of our current laws controlling their behavior and the behavior of their clients. KWD asks us to call Governor Hochul 1-518-474-8390 and ask that she sign the legislation that has passed both houses of our state government and is sitting somewhere in her office. This Immunity legislation - A.1029-B / S.3967-B - is an "act to amend the penal law, in relation to individuals engaged in prostitution who are victims of or witnesses to a crime." Call today! They walk me through some of the prevailing topics related to sex work that are deserving of a deeper conversation - body autonomy, perceived victimhood, feminism, choice, censorship, religious freedom, and the need...

398 Cheyanne Disè aka Muggarose "Samhain and Beyond the Veil"

10/27/2025
This week's show, a conversation on The Feminine Frequency with Jennifer Mulak, we welcome Cheyanne Disé aka MuggaRose to join us. A Catskill-based psychic, medium, and ceremonial artist, she recently arrived from New Orleans. Her lifelong exploration of the unseen began in 1988, when she first immersed herself in the study of parapsychology, past lives, and hauntings. Guided by intuition and ritual, MuggaRose’s artwork carries a deep spiritual resonance. Her creations, often inspired by ceremony and ancestral memory, are collected both nationally and internationally. Throughout her journey, MuggaRose has deep-dived into a wide range of performance offerings—from the ghostly movements of butoh, to the transformative experience of motherhood, to fronting radical punk bands. Each expression informs her spiritual and artistic practice today. As a devoted spiritualist and seeress, she weaves community ceremonies from coast to coast, helping others connect with spirit, intuition, and the natural cycles of renewal. Her debut book, Sundries for the Soul, invites readers to embrace spiritual hygiene, transform daily routines into sacred rituals, developing relationships with the medicinal plant spirits for energy work and learn to trust their own intuition. Through her art, teachings, and ceremonies, MuggaRose offers a living practice of connection, transformation, and reverence for the unseen world as healing and self awakening. Today we get into the magic and practices of Samhain. MuggaRose shares her years of experience in relating to and honoring her ancestors through ancestral altars and offerings. We explore many related aspects of being in connection with our ancestors, including shadow work and the practice of presence. She shares stories and tales related to the holiday including past public ceremonial experiences and what they've revealed to her. She has a public ceremony this weekend to honor Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld who permits the passing of spirits to visit when the veils are thin. Join MuggaRose and Gabrielle Heron on Sunday, November 2nd at the Maetreum of Cybele in Palenville, NY. Arrive by 5pm to make the procession. If you're feeling inspired bring an offering to be made to the earth for Ereshkigal and some nibbles to share with the living following the ritual. She's also holding space for readings on Saturdays at Strange Love in Saugerties from Noon to 5, a place where you can also find a copy of her latest publication, Sundries... 397 Viktorsha Uliyanova "Quieter than Water, Lower than Grass"

10/20/2025
Today on the show, I get to chat with Marielena Ferrer and Viktorsha Uliyanova, a multidisciplinary artist and educator working with alternative photography, installation, video, and fiber art. Her work explores impermanence, the notions of home, and cultural identity narrated through the prism of memory. Her practice is informed by her upbringing in the Soviet Union, political repression, and the immigrant experience. In her research, Uliyanova explores neglected and overlooked histories, often using archives as a catalyst for her work. She received her BA in English Literature, Language, and Criticism from Hunter College and an MFA in Photography and Related Media at State University of New York at New Paltz. Her work has been exhibited at Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Baxter St., MOMA PS1, Participant Inc, Collarworks, among others. She is the recipient of New York State Council on the Arts Grant, Arts Mid-Hudson Culture Grant, Traverso Photography Award, Women’s Studio Workshop SAI Grant, Sojourner Truth Diversity Fellowship, and Research for Creative Projects Grant. Recently, she completed a residency at Vermont Studio Center. She lives in the Hudson Valley and teaches photography at SUNY New Paltz. Viktorsha's upcoming solo exhibit “Quieter than Water, Lower than Grass” is a multimedia installation that examines the fragility of memory and its impact on history, immigrant narratives ,and cultural identity. This work explores themes of migration, belonging, and domesticity. The opening is November 8 at Roundabouts Now Gallery in Kingston, with a panel discussion on November 16 featuring Marielena, Viktorsha, and two additional women artists whose work addresses these same themes. Today, we talk about the meaning of the show title, and how this Russian idiom permeated culture and played a role in repression and control. Viktorsha shares about the layers of her creative process and how this show came to be. We discuss some of the pieces, their meaning, the process in creating them, and the meaning behind that process. One of the main pieces in the exhibition is an installation of suspended large scale cyanotypes of "Brezhnevka"s, prefabricated panel buildings that were built in the Soviet Union from 1964-1980. They were built fast and cheap and can still be found and seen throughout former Soviet states. Our conversation weaves through themes of assimilation, (uniform)ity, culture, healing, memory, domestication, femininity, the multidimensionality of softness, and belonging. Viktorsha's Project Statement: “Quieter Than Water, Lower than Grass’” is a multimedia project that explores the intersection between history, memory, and photographic evidence. The work employs analogue photographic processes , fabric, and video to explore remembrance, storytelling, and ancestral healing. Drawing from family albums, oral histories, and archival images, I construct narratives that have been hidden by the Soviet regime and are often invisible within the dominant historical discourse. The project takes its name from an old Soviet proverb which instills a behavior of keeping a low profile, avoiding any attention from the self, and acting in a way that does not generate conflict. The phrase has been used as a deliberate linguistic tool to disseminate imperialist ideologies, generate fear, and maintain repressive socio-political tactics throughout the USSR. This project outlines the importance of critically engaging with mainstream narratives in order to unlearn them and see their limitations and biases. Quilts are powerful conveyors of the human experience. They are valuable historical documents and memory transmitters that honor storytelling and intergenerational knowledge. Using bed sheets , I hand-sew patchwork of imagery into quilt forms preserving not only my personal memories but also those obscured within the larger cultural and geo-political discourse. Each fabric piece will source from historical documents, family albums,...
