Sister Dede served as one of the inspiring Prayer Leaders for our 2022 annual prayer & celebration event, and returns to the show to share exciting updates about the expansion of ministry services within her religious community which include offering free ultrasounds and counseling to abortion-determined mothers – often brought from the sidewalks outside two of the late-term abortion facilities in D.C. which commit abortions throughout the entirety of the third trimester – free emergency housing for pregnant mothers in need, as well as fighting against euthanasia after the recent loss of one of her dearest mentors. Sister retired with the rank of Colonel from the United States Army in 2009 after 29 years of service in the military, grateful for the opportunity to have “served the brave soldiers” while deployed to Afghanistan. Sister’s service also includes hands-on ministry in the rubble of the Twin Towers after 9/11, caring for the sick during the earthquake in Haiti in 2011, and annual medical missions to Haiti and Iraq. In 1986, Dr. Burke started one of the first therapeutic support groups for women who had experienced the trauma of abortion after founding The Center for Post-Abortion Healing. Rachel’s Vineyard: A Psychological and Spiritual Journey for Post-Abortion Healing was then published in 1994: a unique support group model for counselors, offering a very concrete, emotional experience for women who were grieving the loss of their aborted children. In 1995, Dr. Burke adapted and expanded the curriculum into a format for weekend retreats. Soon individuals seeking healing began to travel from other states to experience this very effective, sensorial healing process. Rachel’s Vineyard has now grown to over 1000 retreats annually – for women and men – offered by 375 sites in 49 states and 70 countries! Dr. Burke has additionally created the weeklong Grief to Grace healing program for victims of sexual abuse, as well as the Duty to Heal program for the military community – each with tremendous impact. With 3 Good Counsel maternity homes in New York and 1 in New Jersey, and through counseling across the country, 8,200+ mothers have been served; 1,290 babies have been born to mothers living in Good Counsel Homes; over 774,607 days of help and nights of shelter have been provided to homeless mothers and their children. Since 2018, 57% of Good Counsel residents have gained employment and 54% have achieved educational advancement! 44,000+ calls have been answered by its 24/7 Helpline since its launch in 1996. The average occupancy in Good Counsel homes has been over capacity, at 101%. In a recent year, Good Counsel mothers received 14,148 professional one-on-one counseling sessions with their case managers. Good Counsel has also helped establish 9 maternity homes in 8 additional states. Further, Good Counsel offers an Exodus program, which is assistance and counseling for former residents, as well as counseling for men, women, and siblings impacted by abortion through its Lumina (which means “Light”) program – effectively helping to break the cycle of repeat and intergenerational abortions.
