What do you do when you aren’t provided enough copies of books for every student? Unfortunately, this is a real problem that ELA teachers are facing. We know how incredibly frustrating and problematic this is for both teachers and students! You want students to be engaged with the book. You know how important it is for students to read at home and dedicate class time to instruction. But access to limited materials is not allowing that to happen. Today we’re back with a lesson plan rescue! We’re sharing creative and productive ideas to overcome this issue so you can still accomplish what you need to in your classes. We’ll look at how providing multiple ways of reading the book, decentering the novel, and layering units on top of each other can help you work around the lack of book copies. It’s officially Women’s History Month and we’re absolutely celebrating here at Brave New Teaching! While we firmly believe that we should be doing this work all year round, it’s still powerful to pause and have some intentionality behind what’s being celebrated this month. For us, that’s not only women’s voices, but also women’s issues, both past and present. He has presented at the AP Annual Conference (APAC) and at the NCTE Annual Conference. He has been an AP Reader, sample-selection Table Leader, AP Question Leader, and member of the College Board’s Instructional Design Team for the current AP English Language and Composition framework. Timothy is a co-author of two of AMSCO’s Advanced Placement Edition English Language and Composition coursebooks. He has also been a consultant and professional development facilitator for multiple educational initiatives, typically working with underserved populations. Timothy teaches English and theology in Massachusetts at Whitinsville Christian School; before that he was a teacher at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. How many times have you sat through a Professional Development Training and thought “This is not the best use of my time”?
