Bodies of Horror: Episode 70 - Se7en (1995) w/ Hannah Oglivie

5/7/2024
Disability representation in media doesn’t exist in a vacuum because disability is something that can impact anyone at anytime – meaning it is so important to touch on the intersectional points of representation. Nichole is joined in a discussion of the landmark, but complicated, film Se7en by Hannah Oglivie, host of Fats on Film, a podcast that discusses the representation of plus-sized bodies across all genres of television and film. We touch on so much in our discussion of Se7en: > there are some arguably terrible individuals associated with this movie now but wanted to still have this conversation in the hopes that there is a benefit of sharing our thoughts > how media depictions of disability, weight, gender and sexuality begin to inform our associations and identity from a young age > how disability and weight are linked to the “religious morality” framework of the Seven Deadly Sins Connect with Hannah: @queenbeastsays / @fatsonfilm Want to share your thoughts on Se7en or suggest a film to cover? Sexy & Surreal: Episode 19 - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)

5/2/2024
Joe and Terry return to Twin Peaks to discuss David Lynch's sensational (and incredibly upsetting) prequel film, Fire Walk With Me (1992). C/W: Sexual Assault How does Terry fare with the cacophony of new characters? How do we feel about the recast actors? And how freaking great is Sheryl Lee in a film that makes the actress go there? Such Sights To Show: Episode 24 - Book of Blood (2009)

4/30/2024
Joe and Bryan return to the world of Books of Blood to discuss director John Harrison's 2009 UK adaptation, Book of Blood. C/W: brief sexual assault. It's nearly the same narrative as the 2020 Hulu Books of Blood, only this one has grime and sexuality. It feels properly Clive Barker-y! Plus: Lord of the Rings ghosts, not enough Doug Bradley, handjobs and BDSM, and debate about Mary's ending Wanna connect with the show? > Bryan: @eviltaylorhicks (Instagram/BlueSky) > Joe: @bstolemyremote Music Credit: Hellraiser Theme by Christopher Young Check out Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad for more great content and the other Network pods Hosted on Acast. Bodies of Horror: Episode 69 - Immaculate, The First Omen, and Bodily Autonomy

4/23/2024
For this episode, Nichole is covering two films just released in theatres – Immaculate and The First Omen (2024). As a fan of religious horror, I was very excited to see both but was very surprised to find myself thinking about these films well after viewing and what they had to say about bodily autonomy (both in regards to reproductive health and beyond). Sexy & Surreal: Episode 18 - Naked Lunch (1991)

4/18/2024
Terry and Joe return to talk about Cronenberg's queerest film yet: the 1991 adaptation of Naked Lunch. This one is tough, particularly if you're less familiar with the life and work of William S. Burroughs. Visually it's very surreal and fantastical (the typewriters!), but narratively it doesn't come together in a satisfying way. Plus: the amazing FX, real life manslaughter, creature buttholes, and *that* Roy Scheider cameo Wanna connect with your co-hosts? > Terry: @gaylydreadful > Joe: @bstolemyremote If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe! Such Sights to Show: Episode 23 - Books of Blood (2020)

4/16/2024
After wrapping up Clive Barker's Books of Blood, Bryan and Joe dig into Brannon Braga's Trick r'Treat-style anthology, Books of Blood (2020). It's...fine. Too polished, strange story choices and Bryan is *not* a fan of how much the film hangs on the character of Jenna (Britt Robertson). Plus: Barker's involvement, speculation about how this went from a TV series to a standalone film, and comparisons to Hulu other Barker adaptation, Hellraiser (2022). Bodies of Horror: Episode 68 - Under The Skin (2013)

4/9/2024
For this episode, Nichole covers 2013’s Under the Skin. Does having a disabled character (played by a disabled actor) as a pivotal part of another character’s turning point feel exploitative or authentic approach? How would it feel to shed the skin that has been a point of pain or even trauma? Would you get into a non-descript van with a stranger? Sexy & Surreal: Episode 17 - Wild At Heart (1990)

4/4/2024
Sexy & Surreal returns for a third series as Terry and Joe tackle David Lynch's romantic road trip/crime movie, Wild at Heart (1990). This film is *hot*, but it doesn't quite come together for us, despite the fine work of both Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage. Plus: references to Elvis and The Wizard of Oz, wanting more of MVP Diane Ladd, Twin Peaks cross-overs, and debate about Lynch doing sex and romance. Bodies of Horror: Episode 67 - May (2002)

3/26/2024
For this episode, we’re covering 2002’s May. Is May another character in the Creepy Loner Girl tradition, or is there more to explore? How can experiences of bullying and mistreatment, often as a result of being different and sometimes connected to disability, make it hard for us to form friendships? Lots to unpack with this “new cult classic.” Additional Reading/Research: > May Is Not Like Other Creepy Loner Girls in Horror Movies (cbr.com) > May and The Importance of Autistic Representation — Hear Us Scream Want to say hi, share your thoughts, or suggest a film to cover? Bryan and Joe are finally delivering on their promise to check out Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker's Nightbreed, edited by Joseph Nassise and Del Howison. For this episode, we’re covering 2020’s Run. I am excited to revisit this one after recording an episode of the Freaks and Psycho pod on it some time back. White Ladies in Crisis: Eileen (2023)

2/20/2024
White Ladies in Crisis returns to discuss William Oldroyd's 2023 adaptation of Ottessa Moshfegh's Eileen. Thomasin Mckenzie once again becomes fixated on a blonde femme fatale (Anne Hathaway) in a film about repression, inner fantasy life, and secrets.
