It's not ideal, sure, but the reality is that in the west, we are NOT always going to have access to a masjid by the time prayer starts. Thus--we might as well get used to praying in public and taking the proper precautions/preparing adequately to ensure we are not missing our most important obligation as Muslims. Additionally, I find it extremely relaxing to pray salah in nature (especially when not many people are around); it's an opportunity to connect to Allah SWT while standing amongst His beautiful creation.
