Using Affirmative Language to help you drink LESS!

When you start to notice or continue practicing becoming aware of how you are talking to yourself, you will become aware of how your thoughts are driving your behavior. When people tell me that they "Got a case of the Fuck its" for example, I ask them how were they talking to themselves in that moment when they were also deciding to have a 4th or a 5th drink or to finish the bottle. They always respond that their thoughts were not in a good place at that moment. Changing your thought patterns changes everything! Notice how you speak to yourself and adjust your thinking to be more loving, compassionate, and nurturing, and see how that helps to change your behavior. Are we connected on IG? Alcohol is a depressant so it only makes sense that it generates low grade thoughts. It's really important to remind yourself however, that you are NOT your thoughts. You are a Spiritual being in a physical body having a human experience. Your thoughts are not facts. And the ones that tell you crappy things about yourself and what is possible for you are NOT coming from a higher place. I see you hard-working mom. Doing everything for everyone all day. You wish you could do something for yourself - go to yoga class or run around the park like you used to or just read a book for like 30 minutes. But who will let you do that? You feel like you have to scrape and justify your needs so that you can take a few breaths to try and fulfill them because no one is coming to do it for you. It only makes sense that you look forward to a drink at the end of the day! And yet, if you've been looking forward to a drink a the end of the day for awhile now, and you're beginning to notice negative side effects, and this is something that you'd like to change - please know that this is something that is entirely possible. My Tofurkey Thanksgiving - A Cautionary Tale

A few lessons learned from this Thanksgiving at 26 years old. 1.Not having a strong support system outside of my ride or die friends who were also on the party train, compelled me to believe that I was emotionally alone much of the time. This feeling of loneliness, even when you are surrounded by people, is a driving force to go to bars, go get drunk because that is how one gets immediate company and a false sense of community. 2.Tofurkey is not a real food. 3.My life had been designed, constructed around drinking, drinking activities and other people who drank, And so If I didn’t drink or didn’t want to, that would mean an identity crisis which our minds try to avoid at all costs. Addiction, Harm Reduction and Theatre as a Healer with Ana Bess Moyer Bell

In today's episode I sit down for a Zoom convo with my awe-inspiring friend and fellow California Institute of Integral Studies alum Ana Bess Moyer Bell. Ana Bess holds a Masters degree in Drama Therapy from New York University and has been a practicing clinician since 2014. She is the founder of COAAST (now 2nd Act) and has practiced and taught drama therapy nationally and internationally and is a commissioned playwright. She is currently on the advisory board at the Rhode Island Department of Health helping to create and maintain the medical regulations for the nation's first legal harm reduction centres. She is a senior advisor to RI Governor Daniel J. McKee on substance use, harm reduction, and recovery. Listen in to hear how personal tragedy inspired her to create the work that she now does, from developing grassroots theatre to effecting policy change for harm reduction clinics and resources. Alcohol and The Spirit World

Alcohol is the gateway drug not only for the subsequent usage of other drugs and substances but also because it gives spirits access to your nervous system. Alcohol lowers our vibration and in excess, causes a toxic environment for our spirits to be in, it has also been shown in Kirlian photography to generate holes in the auric field. Our divine spirit then partially or even fully leaves the body but is still tethered to it. And when our spirit is essentially NOT HOME, this becomes an opening and even an invitation for other spirits or energies to enter our bodies and animate them in ways that are not really us, not really in alignment with who we want to be or what we want to be doing, things that are out of character. Some spirits actually have a thirst or a craving for alcohol which then becomes your body’s thirst or craving for alcohol. And this also explains why we do or have done horrible things while intoxicated, or ended up hurting ourselves or others, and putting ourselves in danger sexually and physically. Because these lower vibratory spirits have no regard for your body, your well being or your good intentions. Here to inform not to freak you out. Why Drinking is NOT Self-Care

If you consider that you’re a healthy person, and that alcohol backs that up in someway, like giving you down time, relaxation, ME time etc. as a form of self care, you probably aren’t too activated to make changes. BUT if you notice that you’re having thoughts sprouting up about alcohol being not so great for you, whether you immediately dismiss them or if you’re beginning to entertain them and be curious about them, letting them in if you will, you are probably more in the zone of cognitive dissonance, which means that you are near if not already, ready to make changes in your drinking habits. How to NOT get DRUNK at a Gathering

Are you headed into the weekend with drinking plans? Are you going to a gathering or otherwise hosting some shindig yourself? And do gathering events make you a bit anxious about your alcohol consumption? Then this episode is for you! A few takeaways at a glance: Remember that you are an ADULT!! You are not a teenager sneaking booze. It does not have to be consumed in a vapid pace - tho your body and subconscious may act this way if you started drinking at a young age and had to hide it or drink it fast. You don’t have to hang!! In fact, be the one who doesn’t hang. Remove your self from the conversation, the immediate vibe, if you feel compelled to drink beyond a light buzz or your own personal needs for comfort and safety. Be picky!! Don’t drink the cheap red wine, the Coors Lights whatever just because that is all that is left.
