Music Podcasts

Scottish and Irish folk songs combined with the Lord of the Rings music and a wee bit o’Celtic fun. The Brobdingnagian Bards (pronounced brob-din-nahg-EE-en) were The Original Celtic Renaissance music duo from Austin, Texas. Their unique brand of folk music on the autoharp, recorder, and mandolin made them one of the most-popular Celtic music groups online where they continue to give away thousands of free Celtic MP3 downloads daily. From 1999 to 2008, the Brobdingnagian Bards performed coast-to-coast, and in a given month could be found at a Lord of the Rings Oscar Party, a Celtic festival, or a Science Fiction Convention. However, they were an absolute favorite at Renaissance Faires where they added high-energy and wit to make every show a memorable experience. Thanks in part to this podcast, their shows are never done!

Night was near. I was on me fourth pint of their best Irish beer When a thought quickly struck me of all I hold dear. So I went on outside to the hill with my beer. Well, I smelled all the flowers all the flowers. I've left none to behind. I've told more the truth than I've told fib or lie And I hope when you find me in the hills where I'll lie That it'll always be said that I died satisfied. Well, I took both the good and the bad in me life. And I made the most of it in a home with me wife. And I raised me two kids both a girl and a boy. And they made all me life, oh, a gift to enjoy. As for friends I've had many I ne're walked alone, And a few were like family just as much as me own They helped in times troubled and made happiness known. And they gave me a young heart I've never outgrown, Well, the evening was leaving and the sun said goodbye. I thought of me past and I smiled with a sigh. Oh, I had no regrets nay a reason to cry. So I drank me beer down 'till the glass all was dry. 32:00 - Andrew McKee “Satisfied” from The Irish Bard 35:10 - CREDITS Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn and Andrew McKee. By the power of a potion, she handed him the notion He was lower than the dirt in the road. And though she left him green and warted, her evil plans were thwarted Their chanced to happen by a young miss Who in spite of his complexion, offered him affection And broke the wicked curse with her kiss So if you've never been frog kissing Then you don't know what you've been missin', There's a wealth of opportunity under each and every log. And if you've never been charm-breakin', Then you've never been handsome prince makin'. You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a frog! Once upon a time ago, I was down and feelin' low Like a lonely frog in a pond My life was just a joke, and I was just about to croak Cuz I'd be zapped by life's wicked wand. But in the depths of my depression, there came a true expression Of love from a person so sweet. She gave me warm fuzzy feelings, feelings that were healin' And she knocked me off my little webbed feet. There's a happy-ever-after-land, deep in the heart of man Where a prince and princess abides. But all we get are glimpses, of the happy prince or princess 'Cauce they're covered with a green warty hide. Though they're full of life's potential, they're lacking one essential To enable them to shine like a star. That's a handsome guy or missus, to smother them with kisses And love them just the way that they are. That's the secret of frog kissing You can do it too if you'll just listen There's a wealth of opportunity under each and every log. That's the secret of charm-breakin', That's the secret of handsome prince makin'. You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a… You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a… You've got to slow down, turn around, bend down, Kiss you a frog! 47:32 - Brobdingnagian Bards “Frog Kissin’” from Brobdingnagian Fairy Tales 50:29 - CLOSING Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn and Andrew McKee. SONG LYRICS Jedi Mickey by Marc Gunn and Andrew McKee A long time ago, a tugboat faraway. Mickey whistled out a tune while bouncing away He turned color after one too many drinks Then called up Lucas saying, “Haha! Dude... your writing stinks!” When Mickey sobered up, he called the board to plan, "I've had a vision, a lightsaber in my hand We'll make Star Wars as we wish upon a star And will do it far better with a story by Pixar. Haha!" [to the tune When you Wish upon a Star] When the mouse wants your franchise He'll start off licensing for rides. If you're tired and you need some cash He'll buy from you...... One part mouse and one part duck One part Jedi and formulaic luck A Wookie on my right and a Goofy one on my left Merging these two companies... is the big test There's a star destroyer shaped like a mushroom house The Beagle boys stand before a Sith Lord mouse While far away a Jedi Mouse stares into space The three moons of Tatooine replaced... by Mickey's face Mickey meets Minnie. The force is strong with her. He lays a kiss on her, and the fans all hurl Minnie is his sister and that folks is a shame Our love for those mice will never... be the same Mickey stabs the Sith. The dark mouse disappears Wherever there's one Sith Lord, another will appear A duck steps forward with a cloak as black as ink With Jedi mice and ducks, I'll need... a stronger drink.

We've asked him to leave, but he won't go away. Now he's talked to our king and they worked out a deal. No homes will he burn and no crops will he steal. Now there is but one catch, we dislike it a bunch. Twice a year he invites him a virgin to lunch. Well, we've no other choice, so the deal we'll respect. But we can't help but wonder and pause to reflect. * Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Are they salty, or sweeter, more juicy or what? Do you savor them slowly? Gulp them down on the spot? Do virgins taste better than those who are not? Now we'd like to be shed you, and many have tried. But no one can get through your thick scaly hide. We hope that some day, some brave knight will come by. 'Cause we can't wait around 'til you're too fat to fly. Now you have such good taste in your women for sure, They always are pretty, they always are pure. But your notion of dining, it makes us all flinch, For your favorite entree is barbecued wench. Now we've found a solution, it works out so neat, If you insist on nothing but virgins to eat. No more will our number ever grow small, We'll simply make sure there's no virgins at all! The Dragon's Retort words by Claire Stephens, music traditional Now, I am a dragon. Please listen to me. For I'm misunderstood to a dreadful degree. This ecology needs my and I know my place. But I'm fighting extinction with all of my race. Well, I came to this village to better my health Which is ever so poor, despite all my wealth. But I get no assistance and no sympathy, Just impertinent questioning shouted at me. * Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not. But my favorite snack mixed with peril is fraught. For my teeth will decay and my trim go to pot. Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not. Well, I'm really quite kind almost all through the year. Vegetarian ways are now mine out of fear. But a birthday needs sweets as I'm sure you'll agree. And barbecued wench tastes like candy to me As it happens our interests are almost the same. You see I'm really quite skillful at managing game. If I ate just your men, would your excess decline? Of course not, the rest would just make better time. Now, the number of babies a woman can bare Has limits. That's why my prunings done there. And an orphan's a sad sight and so when I much. I'm careful to eat only virgins for lunch The Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast was produced by Marc Gunn, and Andrew McKee. And the King he was in great distress and the countries spirits flagoned. Until one day there came a knight, he was handsome, bold, and charming. And he slew the dragon with his sword with a smile that was so disarming. With a hey and a ho and a hey nany no, a smile that was so disarming. Said the King I wish to know your name, but the knight said do not bother. For the name of a knight of the realm says he, is the same as any other. Said the King tonight in my daughter's bed you shall take your leisure. And she'll reward you for your deed, with a night of exhausting pleasure. With a hey and a ho and a hey nany no, anight of exhausting pleasure. One daughter she had raven hair, a maiden young and chaste. And she slept all night in the pale moonlight, naked to the waist. The other daughter she was fair, the fairest in the town. And she slept all night in the pale moonlight naked from her small waist down. With a hey and a ho and a hey nany no, naked from her small waist down. Well the knight he spends many hour behind the castle wall. But the ending to my story dear, isn't what it seems at all. For in neither bed of neither maid was he repaid for his glory. But he slept all night with the King instead for this is a fairy story. With a hey and a ho and a hey nany no, for this is a Fairy story.

They were kind and good The oldest sister went into the woods She met and fell in love with a gentleman He was the only son of the laird of the land Singing hi da diddle diddle die dal day Hi da diddle diddle die dal day Every day just as the sunset fell, The gentleman and maiden met beside a well Their love was true. Their love was strong The swore to tell their parents that they belong The oldest sister told her six siblings She met a man to love for eternity They giggled and laughed with pride and joy They would see her wed, the sisters swore. The gentleman shared the love he found But the Laird reminded him he was duty bound He was betrothed to a fair lady To extend his father’s land along the sea There in the meadow, the gentleman professed To marry the maiden in a pretty white dress She and her sisters, they promised They would wait for him til their Marriage kiss The Laird he learned of the marriage plan He swore his son would become a man He chained his son on the bailey ground the gentleman said he was already bound As the sun set, the laird laughed cruelly You’ll stay there till you listen to me The Gentleman called out to the night I will be faithful to my love so bright There was a bright light. The ground it shook. The water went dry Down by the brook. The sisters heard the gentlemen's cry. They turn to stane so they’d never die The Lord went down to the Bailey ground To see if his son had come around There where his son had been chained alane All that stood was a standings stane Deep in the wood by a dried up brook Stand Seven tall stones that continue to look The seven sisters await the swain Who stands in the courtyard all alane Brobdingnagian Bards “Seven Sisters” from Another Faire to Remember NEXT TIME: Marc interviews Andrew about his new CD. Writing Another Faire to Remember

4/20/2022
We were considering what songs we should include on our next album, Another Faire to Remember. Our most-popular songs are our originals. In this show, we brainstorm ideas for two new songs that we will write and share with you over the next few months. Another Faire to Remember continues our celebration of Renaissance festivals much like our hit CD A Faire to Remember. That album shared our picks of the Top 10 most-popular songs at faires. This one features some more brilliant songs from the circuit plus its time for us to start writing new songs together. In this show, you will learn… What breathes in what Andrew breathes out? It could be the topic of a new song on the Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast. Who’s kissing who or what? Sometimes you have to wonder what Andrew is thinking. Especially when he’s working on a new song. Find out more about it on the Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast. Trees or rocks? It’s the grudge match of all time! Or perhaps Marc is writing a new song. Subscribe to the Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast. What is the purpose of stone circles? Are they, as Outlander suggests, portals to a love story across time? Or something else? Could Marc answer that question on the next Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast? It's all on the Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast #68. --- Join the Nagians Only Club on Patreon.
