RTC115: The importance of work-life balance & working out what's important with Sarah Lindsay.

5/14/2024
This week we welcomed back one of our favourite guests, Sarah Lindsay who runs SALA, the most amazing reformer pilates, yoga and barre studio in Auckland. The original episode we recorded with her was so popular that we thought it would be rude not to have her back to give us some updates and share some of her successful business-owner wisdom with us. Feeling defeated in achieving work-life feels like a tale as old as time and a struggle I think every one of us can say we face regularly. This is a chat about getting your priorities in order, setting boundaries, and defining what you want for yourself now, versus what future you will appreciate the most. Hilarious, a little bit woo-woo and incredibly eye-opening, we were so happy to have Sarah back in the studio to chat with us again. Watch this episode on YouTube. TCW67: The 2 largest economies in the world are having a BDE-off.

5/12/2024
Joining us in this extra special, extra lengthy Curve Weekly episode is the amazing Ella, who you may recognise from way back when Soph was scraping the financial barrel and Ella came to the rescue (as told in RTC69). A few weeks ago you might remember we spoke about the rivalry between America and China all about banning TikTok in the US? Well, the plot has thickened!! The US is claiming national security, and China’s calling bullshit, suing the US government for forbidding freedom of speech. It's all go. In other news, Soph’s fan-girling over the icon that is Whitney Wolfe Herd AKA founder of Bumble. Meanwhile, Vic’s fan-girling over…. actually you’ll have to listen to that part, it's too outrageous to write down. Ella, the research queen, has helped us compile an in-depth survey to help us understand more about your wants and needs from The Curve and an Investing Club currently under construction. We'd love love love if you could fill in! You can check it out here. Watch this episode on YouTube. This episode was made possible wonderful team at Neon NZ. RTC114: Meg + Guy say goodbye to 'Daddy Daycare'.

5/7/2024
This week we’re speaking with a couple who are doing things differently - Meg + Guy Mansell. We know this so 2021, but these two are absolute #couplegoals. Meg, who you may know as the host of The Edge Breakfast radio show, met Guy back in broadcasting school (with Soph!) 10 years ago. Although Meg jokes about conning Guy into being a relationship with her, the two are now happily married, with a house, dog, cat and daughter. Thank goodness she didn't listen to Soph and sack him off all those years ago! Instead of adopting the traditional gender roles, Meg is the 'breadwinner' (rubbish term, we're working on it) and Guy is a stay at home Dad. Incredibly honest, incredibly cute, this conversation will give you an idea of what life actually looks like when the roles are reversed. Watch this episode on YouTube. TCW66: Leaked nudes and very expensive potatoes.

5/6/2024
Full transparency, The Curve Weekly got a little financially off track this week. The mention of Snapchat’s sky rocketing share price meant that there were a few minds in the gutter... and by a few, it was only Soph's. The conversation went a little like this... "Surely the only reason Snapchat share price went up 30% in a day was because a celebrity's nudes were leaked right...?" As you can imagine, this thought process completely derailed our very high brow investing conversation, and gave us a peek into Soph’s extra curricular activities that quite frankly, no one needed to know about. AirBnb is up 30% year to date but will they be able to keep growing? Apple did their biggest share buyback on record of $110 BILLION AKA the biggest green flag ever, and somehow we learnt that Vic thinks of herself as a Giraffe.... Go figure. RTC113: Losing everything to a professional con artist and coming out on top.

4/30/2024
It’s no secret people get scammed all the time. With voice impersonations and deepfake phishing on the rise, scammers have reached a new level of deception. But imagine if the person scamming you was in plain sight, someone you thought you could trust with everything. This is what happened to Tracy Hall, who you might recognise from the podcast ‘Who The Hell Is Hamish’. After 7 years of re-building her life off the back of financial and emotional betrayal, Tracy is stronger than ever and she's on a mission to erase the stigma and shame that comes with being the victim of a scam. Tracy is living proof that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Get the tissues at the ready, this episode will have you in tears (happy or sad, you decide). The Last Victim written by Tracy Hall with Summer Land is now available for purchase. Click here for more info. Watch this episode on YouTube. TCW65: Entrepreneur, entrepreneur, entrepreneur.

4/28/2024
As Linda Jenkinson (the absolute icon that we interviewed last week) would say; a business' success boils down to three things; entrepreneur, entrepreneur, entrepreneur. And this week we're looking at how Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg continue to kill the game. In other newwwws (sorry Vic), the New York stock exchange might be opening 24/7 and Google have declared their first ever dividend (which is where they return cash to their shareholders). RTC112: The first woman to list on the NASDAQ: Linda Jenkinson AKA an icon.

4/23/2024
This is Linda Jenkinson, or otherwise known as LJ, the first woman to ever list a company on the NASDAQ stock exchange in the US. We know what you’re thinking, this must’ve been ages ago right? LJ listed her company in 1998... that’s only 26 years ago! Being constantly dismissed because of her gender, it's safe to say that LJ has encountered a fair few glass ceilings which she's smashed through at full force. She sees life as a set of games where she’s constantly breaking the rules, and she's on a mission to lead the way for young entrepreneurs and women across the globe. Inspiring, empowering and at many times, completely shocking, we're really excited to share with you our chat. Watch this episode on YouTube. TCW64: Cheap holidays, Hong Kong's in trouble + Vic's big surprise.

4/21/2024
Mixing things up this week, we're talking currencies! Currencies are a bit like stocks; they fluctuate depending on demand, and can actually be a creative way of saving money. Hint: take a holiday to a destination where the currency is weak - you'll be living it up for less! Testing that theory is Vic who has has decided to fly to Spain to surprise flower man (AKA her boyfriend), meanwhile Soph is on a fly hunt (literally - please excuse any blow fly sounds that enter this recording). Big updates from the Doc Martin stock, Samsonite and a few other goodies! Important note for those only here for the finance news - and not our lives - please skip to the 6 minute mark! RTC111: FIRE: Financial Independence Retire Early, with Ana Kresina.

4/16/2024
If you haven't already heard of the FIRE movement, let us introduce you to this amazing concept. FIRE (otherwise known as 'financial independence retire early') is a pretty extreme approach to saving + investing. Someone who has successfully gotten herself in position where she could retire before her 40th birthday is the amazing Ana Kresina. She is a financial educator, author and ex-roller derby player who although she could retire, is choosing to work and empower women all over the world to find the same freedom she now has. An inspiring, important and brilliant conversation - we guarantee you'll be on FIRE by the end of this ep. Watch this episode on YouTube. 4/14/2024
It’s been another wild week in the stock market, but before we get into that - do you remember those emotional charts therapists use to help decipher how you're feeling? No? Just imagine Vic pointing to overwhelm and Soph at the excitement section with a hard launch we are all here for. And although the stock market's been pointing at depressed lately, there is one company you might consider investing in. It's share price has risen 40% this year alone! A small hint...they make arguably the most comfortable, and least subtle shoes in the world. This episode was made possible wonderful team at Neon NZ. RTC110: Pay off the mortgage or invest? Part Two

4/9/2024
Although this 2-parter seems somewhat like Sophie's voice messages; a little rambly, and at times totally off-topic, we hope that by the end, you'll come away with a better understanding of what's best for your financial situation: paying off the mortgage early, or investing the extra funds. Investing may make you more money than paying off debt, but the savings from interest on mortgage payments can be significant. This is why it’s important to determine (based on your personal circumstances) whether investing would be more beneficial than paying off your mortgage, or vice versa! Watch this episode on YouTube. 4/2/2024
Today we’re discussing one of the grey areas we get asked about a lot; whether to prioritise investments, or paying off the mortgage. And although Soph's spent the past few days skilfully dodging emails and meetings using Vic's mysterious operation as her golden ticket, this week we're back in business. As both mortgage and interest rates seesaw, it can be difficult to know where to put your money and what will be best in the long run. TCW61: Reddit’s IPO, Mcdonalds’ new menu item and the cocoa crisis.

3/31/2024
After last week's announcement, we were delighted to receive so many positive messages and words of wisdom but there was one message in particular telling us to cut to the chase so this week, we're getting straight to it (just after Soph shares a moustache story that has no financial relevance). Sorry Nance. Okay, okay, Reddit shares take a turn after the IPO last week (where the company goes public so you can buy shares) as the dreaded short-sellers arrive, McDonald’s makes a sweet deal with the bakery company that’s had decade-long growth, and WeWork’s Adam Neumann makes a comeback. 3/26/2024
Today we welcomed to the studio (otherwise known as Vic's Niece and Nephew's playroom) one of our listeners; Sophia Cich, who told us one of the coolest investing stories we've ever heard. Finding the balance between spending money now for fun vs saving for the future is pretty hard to gauge. How far in the future should you be saving for? How long should you leave your investments for? And can you enjoy any of your investments along the way? Sophia’s story is a great example of how to invest for the future while playing with the fun money - setting a goal, working towards it and reaping the rewards when it's reached. Soph’s finally back in London, but she’s arrived with some pretty painful baggage (shoutout to Freya, Curve fan / world’s best air hostess on hand with antiseptic and ice). And while one iconic duo is now back together, the relationship between China and the U.S. seems to be deteriorating further. The U.S. are trying to pass a bill that could mean 170 million American users will be banned from using the Chinese platform TikTok... ouch. RTC106: Investing in jewels, art and all things luxury with Webb’s Auction House.

3/12/2024
We did our first LIVE podcast event in New Zealand, and it was sparkly, chic and extremely luxurious. We had the absolute honour of sitting down with Tasha Jenkins and Christine Power (two brilliant experts from the iconic Webb’s Auction House) to talk about the ins and outs of investing in luxury items. The questions (like the Veuve) were flowing. Where do we start? How long do we keep a piece for? How volatile is the market? Do ethics come into it? Is orange a bad choice? Should we keep the box? Plus, some great audience questions, Soph’s Birkin ‘mouth fart’ and lots and lots of laughs (thanks, Mike Hallwright). A golden episode for lovers of all things lush. We'd like to say a HUGE thank you to Webbs for hosting us at their beautiful auction house and to all of our favourite brands who got involved. Crypto is flying high, up 150% in the last six months (and Soph and Vic invested!). To celebrate, Soph’s enjoying a Corona in bed while Vic sips on her lemon water. Bliss. And the good news doesn’t end there. The price of gold is also hitting record highs, parental leave in Australia is getting 12% sweeter, and while Oprah’s reasons for leaving the board may be questionable, it seems that Weight Watchers is getting a taste of its own low-carb, low-fat and highly outdated medicine.
