The Tyranny of the "Should" & 3 Ways to Undo Faulty Thinking [Winter #6]

3/18/2024
How often do you think "I should be better at this," or "I shouldn't feel this way?" This week we're addressing those pesky "shoulds" that get in the way of us knowing what we really want and how we genuinely feel. Listening to our gut feelings is praised, but it's actually kinda hard when we've internalised all these societal expectations and pressures! With 3 strategies to undo these faulty thinking patterns known as cognitive distortions we might be better equipped to tune in to our gut feelings and go after what we want. Hope you enjoy!! Zara Beth on Disability Advocacy, Autism in Women & Finding What Works for YOU. [Winter #5]

3/11/2024
So excited to bring you this week's episode!! It's our first guest episode of the winter season - Lucy Talks with Zara Beth! Zara is such an inspiration - and a woman of many talents! From her 400k+ subscribers on YouTube, to her online art business and soon-to-be-published book, Zara's various outlets for her advocacy work and creativity are all amazing. But it's her resilience, creativity and kindness that I find even more amazing and hope you soak up in this episode. Zara has several neurological disabilities including Tourette's Syndrome, FND and autism which impact her life in different ways. I hope that this episode sheds some light on the reality of living with disabilities and in particular, can help to rewrite the stereotype of autistic people. Being able to recognise and ask for your individual needs to be met is so important - we chat about accepting your capabilities, the freedom that can come from diagnoses and how to put systems in place to support yourself. Thank you so so much for coming on the podcast Zara!! Head over to @lucytalks_ on instagram if you wanna get in touch - or email me lucytalkspod@gmail.com to chat or for enquiries! How I Fixed my Relationship with Social Media & Being Intentional. [Winter #4]

2/26/2024
(We were on a break!!) So about a year ago now I deleted Instagram and not gunna lie, it's made a massive difference to my life! I feel like I've changed my perspectives a lot in that time and have seen the value in questioning my actions. In this episode we're diving into why I decided to stop posting, scrolling and giving my energy to social media as well as discussing how intentionality about your relationships with things & people in your life can make you feel happier and more fulfilled. From identity to doom scrolling and from digital passifiers to living for others' approval, let's chat about my motivations for deleting instagram and taking control of my free time. Would love to hear your thoughts!! Ironic I know but it's @lucytalks_ on instagram if you wanna get in touch - or email me lucytalkspod@gmail.com to chat or for enquiries! Your Happiness Matters. Here's Why. [Winter #3]

2/19/2024
I really do believe that your happiness matters. For yourself, for people around you and also, for enacting solutions to huge social justice issues like climate change. I'm pretty passionate about this one and can't wait for you all to hear this episode. Along with a new seasonal structure for the podcast I wanted to bring in a clearer theme - this episode is a mission statement of sorts. Your happiness matters. I think the climate movement (and all social change) needs empowered, solutions-focused, fulfilled changemakers. And we won't find them through negative self talk and under-confidence. Let's prioritise our dreams and our happiness and see what can happen. Email me via lucytalkspod@gmail.com or message me on Instagram @lucytalks_ 💌 to get in touch, would love to chat with you!! It's Time to Dream BIGGER. Expanding our Goals and Imaginations for the Future. [Winter #2]

2/12/2024
I have a theory that we're letting our brains self sabotage our potential before we've even begun. How often do you have a great idea, only for your brain to shut it down and come up with excuses (or really good reasons why we should start next year... and definitely not today). In episode 2 of our winter season, we're talking about dreaming bigger. Letting go of the 'how' and imagining the 'what'. Let's see what we can imagine for ourselves without any restrictions. 031: the scary decline of creativity & why it's more important than ever

6/5/2023
Is creativity what makes us human? With the rapid rise of AI, a sharp decline in creative subjects being studied in UK schools and a growing imbalance in our wellbeing there comes a real need for a resurgence in creativity and innovation. In this episode, I have a proper deep dive into various areas where creativity is being pushed aside and the consequences this is having on our wellbeing, society and planet. 028: does the internet actually make us more connected? a 7 day experiment with no social media...

4/24/2023
Turns out social media is proper crazy when you stop and think about it. Hey everyone! So excited to share this episode with you all, it's one that I've been wanting to make for a while. This is ep2 of the 'life is an experiment series' - and it's been SUCH an interesting experiment. Honestly I feel like we've really normalised sharing our lives online, interacting with other people's content or using social media as a distraction or a way to avoid discomfort. Taking a step back from it I'm starting to realise how much of a knock-on effect that it has on our *real-life* relationships. Yes there are loads of benefits, but does the internet have a net positive effect on our connection? Huge shoutout to Megan Short's episode 'we are all third wheeling social media' which inspired me to do this - definitely go listen. Another really interesting take on the internet is linked here - an interview from 1999 with David Bowie when he predicts the effect of the internet on our society. If you do your own social media detox I'd love to hear about your experiences, email me spacetolearnpodcast@gmail.com if you want an accountability buddy or to chat more about this. Thank you so much for listening!!! Very grateful for you being here. Lucy x
