111. Understanding the Smart Scale and How It Can Transform Your Health and Fitness

Send us a Text Message. Today’s episode is covering a VERY requested topic I’ve gotten lately - the smart scale! I personally use the RENPHO Smart Scale, and I absolutely love it! I highly encourage my clients to get a smart scale, because it tracks SO much more than a typical scale that just gives you your body weight. The smart scale provides some pretty fascinating data when it comes to health metrics, but I promise to keep the information I’m sharing here simple and digestible (no BS like always!), so you can see how this would potentially benefit you and your specific health goals, lifestyle, etc. In today’s episode, I’m talking all about understanding the smart scale, and the unique metrics that are possible when utilizing this device. From tracking your BMI (body mass index) and body fat percentage, to the different types of fat (subcutaneous and visceral), skeletal muscle, bone mass, and more, the smart scale is giving you information for all of YOUR specific metrics. The smart scale even gives you information on your protein intake and why protein is so important, your ‘body water’ (so you can see how hydrated you really are), and your metabolic age (which is different from your ‘actual’ age). My goal with this episode was to break down these numbers and metrics, and really help you take more of a proactive approach versus reactive approach with your health. It shouldn’t be difficult or feel overwhelming to use your smart scale; I’ve found that doing so will absolutely improve your relationship with the scale, which is pretty powerful in itself. 110. Learning to Pivot and Embrace Change on Your Fitness Journey

Send us a Text Message. I’ve been noticing a common theme when working with my clients lately - it’s also something that I’ve experienced myself, and have come to realize I’m really good at doing. The ability to be able to pivot, and really embrace more flexibility on my fitness journey in a way that feels authentic to me has helped me SO much - it’s kind of my specialty. I’ve been at this for over 15 years now, so you could say I’ve had to pivot a time (or two) along the way! I’m currently in an extremely busy and chaotic season in my own life. While a lot of these are new things I’m navigating and am figuring out as I go, I’m also NOT letting it keep me from prioritizing my fitness and nutrition. Taking time to plan your fitness and nutrition around all of your day to day ‘stuff’ is key. We’re ALL busy, and while I think this often can be an excuse, I also know you can’t juggle ALL.THE.THINGS in every season of life you’re in. Sticking to a program that is too rigid with little wiggle room will lead you to feeling like you’re a failure when you miss a workout, or eat foods that you ‘aren’t supposed to’. I can’t stress this enough - the ability to pivot well in your fitness journey is super important. In order to NOT quit, you have to learn how to pivot, adjust when necessary, and embrace change - I truly believe this should be a welcomed part of your journey! 109. The Importance of Fixing Your Relationship with the Scale

Send us a Text Message. Have you ever felt like the scale is basically your worst enemy when it comes to your health and fitness?? I hear often from the ladies I work with that they’re either weighing themselves daily and are super fixated on the results, or they’re never stepping foot on the scale and want to steer clear of it all together. Either way, the scale still seems to control SO much of how we feel about ourselves and our overall health. This is something I've personally struggled with in the past, because the scale used to hold so much meaning for me too. Fortunately, I’m in a place now where I don’t dread stepping on the scale. It’s simply a metric for me to celebrate my body’s capacity for strength and transformation; the number staring back at me doesn’t dictate how I feel about myself, or my worth. While I do believe the scale can be very helpful and it is important to understand, it’s not the ‘be-all, end-all’ when it comes to your health and fitness. It IS possible to foster a healthy relationship with the scale - one that aligns with your fitness goals and your emotional well-being. 108. How I Approach Fitness: Consistency and Patience

Send us a Text Message. I will say this forever....consistency is the key to getting the healthy, fit body you want. Patience plays a big part as well. I started my Spring cut a few weeks ago and it has been a SLOW progress. In years past I would have gotten very discouraged and went to drastic measures to lose a few pounds. This year I am proud of my mindset and ability to show up despite not seeing changes on the scale. I have been reminded of the importance of consistency during this process and in this episode I am giving you little update on my cut as well as some insight on things I have been reminded of, I think both will help you. I get asked about this commonly and I feel like I can't give that advice since I don't know your kids. I started lifting weights (little weights 😆) when my kids were 2 and 6 months old... that was 15 years ago. 103. Embracing Carbs: Your Body Needs Them!

We have made so much progress in the health and fitness space with weight lifting and overall treating our bodies better... but the fear of carbs is still alive and well and it needs to stop. I would love to help you realize you can have a healthy mindset around carbs and that YOU can be in control. Carbs come in different forms: oatmeal, rice, bread, fruit, veggies and oreos. YOU can choose what you would like to fill your plate with. You can decide what foods work for you. But, you need to know that your body needs carbs for energy and other reasons discussed in this episode. 102. The Unrealistic Beauty and Fitness Standards of Social Media

I have felt bombarded on social media lately with ads of products promising to improve my face, my body, my digestion, my sleep (and just about everything else... and honestly... I'm sick of it. It makes me feel like I can't get away from the pressure of buying something or looking a certain way. Social media in general has become overwhelming lately and the constant feeling of needing to look, shop and workout the way someone else does and it has me feeling irritated. Please join me in this episode as I talk about it all! As women (I can't speak for men) we are always pressured to do more, be more, be prettier and act like we have it "all together" and it's exhausting. I can see my 18 year old daughter being tempted by social media as well and as a Mom that is terrifying. This episode is a conversation about these things. 100. Mindset Shift: "This Sh*t Is Not Optional"

Send us a Text Message. The title pretty much says it all! "THIS SH*T IS NOT OPTIONAL". I see so many people approaching health and fitness with an optional mentality... A lot of things in life are not optional... health and fitness should be one of those things. From the moment I realized this was a life-long journey I decided to never quit. Sure, I have had my share of set backs and difficulties but I never gave up or stopped completely. It's hard (so hard) to show up and workout or track my food when I don't want to... but it's also hard to parent, or work, or to do many other things I do in a day but I show up and do my best in all things. The difference is the mentality and how I think and speak to myself: It's simply not an option to go more than 2/3 days without a workout. It's not an option to hit my protein goal. I will no it no matter what. You need to adopt this same mentality if you want to keep showing up. At first it will feel forced and before you know it you will be doing new habits without thinking about it. I can't get on social media for any amount of time without seeing something claiming to get rid of the "mom pooch" or "snatch your waist" or release trauma in my body. And as you can imagine.... it drives me crazy. These posts and videos are most commonly created to gain views or mislead you into believing you need what they are selling ... NOT to actually help you. The marketing can be tricky! They target our deepest insecurities and use key words to grab our attention. We are so easily persuaded by the visual that we fail to think through whether that person is qualified to make such claims and whether we need what they are selling.
