Episode 90 - "Deal Or No Deal"
1/21/2026
Show notes: "Drawing Funny" episode 90 is so nice, I did it twice! Due to technical difficulties mixed with my stupidity, I had to record/edit this podcast twice! It's the episode that for a bit- wasn't! Hopefully you'll think it's worth the effort and learn something from it...even if it's how NOT to do something. I discuss some of my history with comic conventions, my opinions on the con scene today, some of my "rules" and advice for setting up at cons, plus thoughts on searching for new revenue streams for my art and making money on an image for years to come. Has the con scene hit oversaturation? Are comics and comic creators becoming a rare sight at "comic cons"? Is consignment and/or print-on-demand worth the effort?
I share news on the upcoming Mid-South Cartoonists Association Monthly Dinner Gatherings at Garibaldi's Pizza (1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm), our MSCA "Art Of The Game" art show (now through Jan. 30) and the recent artists reception out at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. We had a great turnout for the reception at the MJCC.
Shameless plug- on Feb. 28 I'll be at the Mid-South Collectible Toy Show in Bartlett, the Beale Street Monster Club's Bigfoot On Beale Celebration at historic A. Schwab's on May 16th, and my "Featured Creatures" art show this summer upstairs in the 2nd Floor West gallery at Playhouse On The Square June 6-Aug. 2, 2026. Free refreshments at the joint artists reception with Angi Cooper on June 5th from 5-7pm. Show will be in conjunction with Playhouse's performance of "Sweeny Todd". I've got original art for sale including hand-drawn sketcovers and sketchcards out at The Cellar Table Top Games & Comics. Check out my website for details. If you have any event or art project news you'd like me to share, or if you'd like to promote your podcast or Kickstarter campaign, you can email me at podcast(at)drawingfunny(dot)com. PDFs of your comics or zines can be emailed to me there or you can send a physical copy to the MSCA address below. Exact details on submitting are in this episode. And always feel free to stop by one of the MSCA events and discuss it all in person with our group, or to do an in-person interview with me. I always love talkin' toons and sharing news. Stay safe...and WARM!

Episode 89 - "2026 News & Goodbye To 2025"
1/2/2026
Show notes: This is my first episode of "Drawing Funny" for 2026. I usually don't get political on this podcast, but after the last year we all went through, I had to share some of my thoughts and feelings on the state of affairs with the current administration. It's at the beginning of the episode and I promise- it's not too long of a rant. Hopefully you feel similarly on the subject, and are finding ways to deal with the craziness coming out of the capital. In the news section I share info on our upcoming Mid-South Cartoonists Association Monthly Dinner Gatherings at Garibaldi's Pizza (1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm), our ongoing MSCA "Art Of The Game" art show out at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, and the local con and art event schedule. Thanks to That Katie Jones for providing so much event info for this episode. There's so many things going on around town these days that it's really hard to keep up with it all! I also share some sad news from MSCA friend and family Bob Kimball. Bob's already beat cancer in 2025, and we send him much love and many good vibes his way as he prepares to fight against it again this year. You can help Bob by supporting him at GoFundMe by clicking here: www.gofundme.com/f/help-bob-kimball-fight-stage-4-cancer In this episode there are a couple shameless plugs in the promotion segments. I've got original art for sale including hand-drawn sketcovers and sketchcards out at The Cellar Table Top Games & Comics in Bartlett, TN. I also have a few airbrushed monsterpiece and marker paintings done on canvas and wood panels. FREE delivery in the Memphis area- sorry no shipping. Check out my website for more details. And don't forget that I have a few pieces in the "Art Of The Game" art show. We'll have an artists reception this Thursday, January 8th from 6-8pm at the MJCC. Speaking of art shows, I pass along info on my solo "Family Portraits' airbrushed monsterpiece art show that's going to be upstairs in the 2nd Floor West gallery at Playhouse On The Square June 6-August 2, 2026. It's the same gallery that the MSCA's "Kitchen Sink" art show was this past summer. If you have any event or project news, or if you'd like to promote your podcast, you can email me at podcast(at)drawingfunny(dot)com. Exact details are in this episode. And feel free to stop by one of the MSCA events and discuss it all in person. I always love talkin' toons and sharing news! We're less than a dozen episodes away from our 100th episode, which will occur later this year. Hopefully sooner than later! Hope you all had a wonderful New Year and a prosperous 2026. Take care and I look forward to seeing and talking to you at some of the many events here in Memphis and around the mid-south.

Episode 88 - "The Airing Of Grievances"
12/26/2025
Show notes: This will be my last episode for 2025, and as I record this it feels more like spring break than Christmas here in the mid-south..! It's been between 60-75 degrees this week, and we're currently wearing shorts in late December! We even got some yardwork and gardening done on Christmas day. And of course it's supposed to be be back down around freezing next week, which is was the weekend before last...ugh. Well, I can say that it's been an extremely busy year, as well as crazy and scary, too! If you heard my last episode you know that 2026 looks like it's going to be just as busy for me and other members of the Mid-South Cartoonists Association. In the news section I share info on our upcoming MSCA Monthly Dinner Gatherings at Garibaldi's Pizza (1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm), our ongoing "Art Of The Game" art show out at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, and the recent loss of monster kid, ape-man, and original Ghost Buster- Bob Burns. Recently I heard hosts of the Comic Lab podcast, Brad Guigar and Dave Kellett, talk about attending local comic cons, doing in-store signings, and being part of artist communities- or more accurately, their avoidance of such things. That got me thinking about the importance or necessity of those, or are they worth it..? I love the podcast, and agree and sympathize with some of what they said, but disagreed with other opinions of theirs. In my opinion section I discuss some of my experiences being a "local" artist, some pros and cons for setting up (and paying for) comic conventions, thoughts on being part of an artist or geek community here in town, and joining local or national clubs and organizations, either for fun and/or profit. I share what I think some of the benefits can be for an artist- both amateur and professional, and what my hopes are for other artists in this tough economy and frustrating political times. Even being almost 60 years old now, I still struggle with what direction I want to go with my art, question how long I can continue making art, and desperately seek to make a living as a "professional" artist. I'm always up to hear your opinions on it all. You can email me at podcast(at)drawingfunny(dot)com or stop by one of the MSCA events and discuss it in person. I always love talkin' toons! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Festive Festivus, and Bodacious Boxing Day. Have a wonderful New Year, and I'll see ya in 2026- cheers!

Episode 87 - "MSCA 2025 Year End Review"
12/5/2025
Show notes: It's time for our annual MSCA Year End Review with the Mid-South Cartoonists Association's president Kevin L. Williams. We grabbed some dinner at Huey's in midtown, and then headed over to his place to record this episode. We look back on events from another busy art year for us, and we look ahead to what's coming up for our cartooning group, and other seasonal events and holiday markets in and around Memphis. We also discuss details on the MSCA's Monthly Dinner Gatherings at Garibaldi's Pizza (1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm), our recent Annual Holiday Art Swap, the upcoming "The Art Of The Game" happening in December/January at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, our other previous art shows at Germantown Community Theatre and Playhouse on the Square, our group anthology zine, Rouge's Gallery events, Ave Maria Home visits, the local convention scene, Con Cards, Choose 901 article, Andre L. Miller, and more.We also look back at some of the interviews I did for the 17 episodes of "Drawing Funny" in 2025 such as Holtermmonster with the Monster Market, Beale Street Monster Club's co-founder Michael Cox, MSCA alum Mike Norton, Comics Universe owner "Lethal" Rethal Miller, Greg Cravens, Ryan "Big Daddy" Ladner, That Katie Jones, my wife Nicki Workman, and appearances on the Comic Geek Speak podcast and Geek Tank Radio show on 98.1 The Max/News Talk 989. It was definitely another busy year for all of us artists in 2025. Hope to see you around the M-Town in 2026. Be sure to slide by the many MSCA events going on around the mid-south area, and please stop by my con table and say hi, and/or hit me up to be on the podcast! Hope you're all doing well and have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Fantastic Festivus, and a wonderful New Year.

Episode 86 - "86'ing Spooky Season"
11/24/2025
Show notes: In this 86th episode of the Drawing Funny podcast, we say so long to the 2025 spooky season, and look ahead to what's coming up for that other holiday season. I've got news about local holiday markets/events in the mid-south, and the upcoming Mid-South Cartoonists Association's "The Art Of The Game" happening in December/January at the Memphis Jewish Community Center. I'll have a few pieces in that show.
I also look back at some of the Halloween related events I attended such as Monster Market and the Centennial Celebration of the 1925 movie "The Phantom Of The Opera" at the Beale Street Monster Club. I interviewed the Monster Club's co-founder, Michael Cox while at A. Schwab's on Beale and found out more about the club's origins. My wife Nicki and I also checked out author/monster club co-founder Tony Kail's Beale Street Hoodoo Museum upstairs, and had some hand dipped chocolate shakes downstairs made by Elliot Schwab. You can see pics from my visit to Beale on my HaveGeekWillTravel.com site.
It was definitely another busy fall schedule, and continues to be as we head into Thanksgiving. The following week after Turkey Day the MSCA will have their monthly Dinner gathering at Garibaldi's Pizza off Walker Avenue near the U of M. This month is their Annual Holiday Art Swap, and the deadline to turn in pieces for the next art show. Check out the MSCA website for more info and links HERE.
***SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!!!***I need to make some Christmas cash, and if you need some unique holiday gifts be sure to check out my art sale. Details in this episode and on my art website at www.LinWorkman.com. Free delivery in the mid-south for the monterpiece paintings, sorry- no shipping. Cash (PayPal or card) and carry, only. I've also got several sketchcards and sketchcover comics and zines at The Cellar Table Top Games & Comics out in Bartlett, TN. Lots to choose from!
Thanks for "tooning in". Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Episode 85 - "JJM @ B&N G'TOWN"
10/28/2025
Show notes: In this first episode of the start of Drawing Funny's 6th season we get to hear from Memphis native now Wisconsin wordsmith John Jackson Miller about his early years in the M-town from a Batman book signing in the G'town. JJM was recently back in the midsouth to promote the Random House Worlds release of "BATMAN: REVOLUT?ON" (his 2nd Batman novel and follow-up to "BATMAN: RESSURECTION") at the new Barnes & Noble in Germantown, TN. He talks about the '89 Batverse and WWTBD? (what would Tim Burton do?), plus we get to hear John's origin story straight from the writer's mouth and learn how he got from Memphis to Gotham City by way of strange new worlds in a galaxy far, far away! John's childhood sounds very similar to my own, and not just the growing up in and around Memphis parts. We were both named after our fathers who came from large families, and both of our moms were an only child- and knew Elvis back in the day. My wife Nicki and I have known JJM since before she and I were actually officially a couple, and often see him at local book signings, library appearances, and conventions around the mid-south. He was a fixture at MidSouthCon for many years, and is currently on a signing tour where he's been hanging out with some super-folks like "Batman" movie executive producer Michael Uslan at the New York Comic Con, and in a convention green room with "The Flash" star John Wesley Shipp. At this JJM B&N book signing, Nicki and I ran into some friends of ours from MidSouthCon- and the Bluff City Batman!
In addition to John's book signing life story audio, I catch you up on some local art scene news including details on the current Mid-South Cartoonists Association "Drawn Of The Dead" art show at Germantown Community Theatre, the group's next game themed art show at the Jewish Community Center in December/January, the MSCA's upcoming monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi’s Pizza on November 4th, this weekend's Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention and Memphis Japan Fest, and next month's Memphis Zine Fest!
Thanks to John Jackson Miller and Barnes & Noble for such a BATASTIC book signing event. I hope they're have JJM back in town again soon. Maybe for a 3rd Bat-book..? We've had "BATMAN: RESSURECTION" and "BATMAN: REVOLUT?ON", so I'm just throwing "BATMAN: RESOLUTION" out there if no one else has used it yet- just sayin'... ;)
Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Episode 84 - "Fall Con & Event News"
9/19/2025
Show notes: In this episode I catch you upon my weekend at the Memphis Comic Expo at the Memphis Sports & Event Center at the fairgrounds. I give you my thoughts on this year's MCX (aka "DonnieCon"), and share an interview I did there with one our favorite artists- Mike Norton. It was great catching up with Norton and finding out more about his "Battlepug" Kickstarter campaign, "Krypto: The Last Dog Of Krypton" comic series for DC Comics, and "Revival" TV series on SyFy. I really enjoyed getting to meet voice actress Nika Futterman who voices Asajj Ventress on the Star Wars Clone wars cartoons.
And speaking of Memphis conventions, this episode is packed full of info on upcoming events like the MSCA "Drawn Of The Dead" art show, monthly dinner gatherings at Garibaldi’s Pizza, Rogue’s Gallery Daughters Of Dorkness pop-up shop, updates on our “The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy” zine, and go over fall cons and art events around the M-town like the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention, Monster Market, Memphis Comic Con In The Park, Memphis Oddity & Curiosity Market, River Arts Fest, Memphis Library Teen Arts Fest, Pink Palace Museum Crafts Fair, Memphis Japan Fest, Covington Comic Con, and the Memphis Zine Fest.
Our next MSCA Monthly Dinner Gathering is Tuesday, October 7th from 6-8pm at the U of M at Garibaldi’s Pizza off Walker Avenue. We should be putting together the latest issue of our "The Good, The Bad, and the Sketchy" luck themed zine...fingers crossed!
Hope you can make it out to any or all of these events. “Stay tooned” for more details on other events coming up around the holidays and after the first of the year!

I've been creating some new wood panel art for Monster Market this October. Having a lot of fun with these Trekell art panels and acrylic paint markers.Last week I also broke out my compressor to get back in the saddle with airbrushing and creating new monsterpiece paintings. I started painting back in '86 but haven't touched my airbrush since back around the pandemic days almost 5yrs ago..! I talk about my recently completed Bela canvas and go over my painting process, history with airbrushing, and how creating art for me has changed over the years- the good and the bad. This past weekend I dropped off Drac and my other art for this year's Monster Market. I'll have "Scared Silly" zines, art prints, stickers, "BATS" trading cards, hand-drawn sketchcards and sketchcovers, original Monsterpiece art, and more. There will be an opening night party at The Medicine Factory dowtown on Friday, October 10th from 5-10pm. It's a free event to check out, and lots of other great monster merch to purchase! Hope you can make it out. “Stay tooned” for more details!

Episode 82 - "The Art God Of Jackson, TN"
7/10/2025
Show notes: In this episode I recall Nicki and my busy Saturday in the midsouth. First we drove up to east Memphis to be on 98.1 The Max's "Geek Tank Radio" show (Ep. 7.05.2025) with fellow geeks Joe Thordardson, Allan Gilbreath, Max, and guest geek and voice actor Scott J. Carroll. We talked toons and discussed the Mid-South Cartoonists Association and con community in the Memphis area. They put on the annual Memphis Comic and Fantasy Con which returns to the Memphis Hilton Hotel this November 1st. The MSCA will be set up at this one day event. After the recording session we jumped back in the car and headed up to Comics Universe in Jackson, TN to see our buddy Mike Norton. We had a great time talking with Mike and long time comic shop owner "Lethal Rethel" Miller. I got a few books signed by Mike including my copy of "The Rock Gods Of Jackson, TN". Norton's first issue of “Krypto: The Last Dog Of Krypton” has hit stores, and his Image Comics series “Revival” is now a live action TV series on SyFy! The show stars Melanie Scrofano from “Wynonna Earp”, and can be seen on the SyFy channel on Thursday nights, or streaming on Peacock and YouTube. And don’t forget that there’s still a little bit of time left to back Mike’s new “Battlepug” book on Kickstarter. Mike will be back at the Memphis Comic Expo/DonnieCon in September, and I'll have a table at the show as well.Nicki and I stopped by The Cellar comic shop on our way home. I've got some sketchcards for sale there, and there are copies of the MSCA's “The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy” zine available there, too. There's lots going on this weekend and I've got details including Thrill Comics’ Ryan Ladner "Memphis VS Zombies" comic signing at Loots Collectibles, Good Groceries birthday sale, Abandoned Antiques collector show, ongoing MSCA art show at Playhouse On The Square, and the upcoming SatArtDays at Casey’s Art Box.

Episode 80 - "Memphis Libraries Comic Con"
6/5/2025
Show notes: On Saturday, May 31st I attended the 3rd annual Memphis Libraries Comic Con at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library location on Poplar Avenue. SNL's Chris Parnell was their special guest this year at the main library. Chris is originally from the Memphis area (Germantown, TN), and is the son of local radio legend Jack Parnell. I had a booth there up front on the left side again this year. The show had a great turnout and I sold several of my stickers, prints, and a few sketchcards. I got to do a few interviews with some of my fellow local cartoonists- Antone and Janet Wade/Toshigawa Universe*, Dale Martin/Watusi The Talking Dog, Matt Bowers/Memphis, and Eric McMeans/Raptor Boy. I had my wife/booth babe (and birthday girl) Nicki with me. She held down my booth while I got out from behind it to do the interviews.
Also in this episode I go over some of my recent health issues, and give you info on upcoming events like Anime Blues Con, the Metropolis Superman Celebration, Memphis Comic Expo, MSCA upcoming art shows, monthly dinner gatherings at Garibaldi's Pizza, and SatArtDays at Casey's Art Box. Nicki and I have been enjoying gardening and getting some outdoor time with The Luthors. Hard to believe Lex's gotcha day from Metropolis is coming up next week....10yrs!
Thanks to everyone who talked toons with me or stopped by my table at the Library Comic Con- great seeing everyone.
Hope to see you all at upcoming events this summer and fall. I plan on being at the Memphis Comic Expo/DonnieCon in September, and the Memphis Comic & Fantasy Con/MCFC in November. "Stay tooned" for more details!

Episode 79 - "MidSouth Mega Con"
5/29/2025
Show notes: For this episode I attended the first ever MidSouth Mega Con at the Memphis Sports & Event Center located in the Memphis Fairgrounds. I was at this inaugural con to man the Mid-South Cartoonists Association and record a few interviews over the holiday weekend. I got to talk toons with local artists including Ryan Ladner, Shane Luttrell, That Katie Jones, Peter Melonas, Dr. Kevin Thorn, MSCA president Kevin L. Williams, and MCFC co-organizer/"Geek Tank Radio" co-host Brandon Olmstead. Kev brought along some of his Muppet friends- Kermit, Fozzie, and Grover. We handed out a lot of MSCA stickers and postcards, and even sold a few zines!
There was lots of great cosplay, including our table neighbors The 731 Ghostbusters and Star Trek fan group Station Shelby. We loved getting t meet the amazing animals from the Soft Landings of Tennessee waterfowl rescue, and the awesomely chill pup from the GameOver Arcade in Southaven, MS. We also got to meet actors Reb Brown/Captain America, Sean Patrick Flanery/Young Indiana Jones, and legendary voice actor Billy West/Ren & Stimpy. (You can see pics on our MSCA Facebook page.)
The space was huge, clean, and had great lighting and A/C. There's plenty of room for this con to expand for next year. The Memphis weather was definitely frightful outside, but it was dry and comfortable inside. This fall Memphis Comic Expo will be at this same event center in September. I'll have a table at DonnieCon for the first time in a few years. Between the pandemic, travel, and other show commitments I haven't been able to table there since probably 2018 at the AgCenter. Looking forward to MCX being at this new location.
This Saturday, May 31st is the third annual Memphis Libraries Comic Con at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library - 3030 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38111. I'll be set up at this free event along with several MSCA members 10am-3pm. GOH is Chris Parnell. Oh, our next monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi's Pizza is this Tuesday, June 3rd from 6-8pm, and our deadline to turn in art for next month's art show at Playhouse on the Square. Hope to see you there.

Episode 77 - "Casey's Art Box"
3/27/2025
Show notes: On this episode I do an interview with Casey and Melissa Smith, the owners of the art store "Casey's Art Box". The shop is located out in Germantown, TN and combines retail space, gallery wall space, community gathering space, and Casey's art studio space.
The dynamic duo are both former educators and have been together since the 1993 Cooper Young Festival. They've been married for almost 30 years. Casey Smith was born in Memphis and raised in Germantown. He has been creating art his whole life. His early years began at Ronnie Grisanti & Sons restaurant where he shared his love of murals. He spent 20 years teaching art to kindergarteners through high school seniors. Now Casey is ready to share his works and hopes to encourage other artists to go after their passion. Melissa Smith moved to Germantown at the beginning of her high school career at GHS. Not one to be far from her family, she attended Memphis State, but ended up graduating from the University of Memphis! While there she met and married Casey, being his number one visual art & music fan and (most importantly) best friend. After 27 years in elementary technology education, she is ready to encourage others to unleash their creative energies.
The shop is open Mon-Sat, but are always standing by for any Sunday or after hours art emergencies that might arise! When you stop by be sure to ask about their customer loyalty program. I bought a few paint pens to try out.
I also fill you in on some Mid-South Cartoonists Association news, including our upcoming art shows, zine deadline and monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi's Pizza (April 1st), the MSCA Con Cards, and the Rogue's Gallery moving to Lootz Collectibles in Atoka for Free Comic Book Day.
Plus I share some info on Comic Geek Speak's 20th anniversary celebration up in Reading, PA and recent Diamond acquisition by Alliance Entertainment.
This week I dropped off a couple of my paintings for upcoming auctions/sales at Playhouse on the Square ("King Arthur/Spamalot") and Germantown Community Theatre ("Annie & Sandy"). Both were done in acrylics on canvas and for previous art shows at GCT. Proceeds to benefit the two theaters. I'll have new art to benefit my wallet at both theaters this year.
Thanks to Casey and Melissa for talking toons with me. Hope this episode inspires you to check out their art store and create some art of your own!

Episode 76 - "MSCA Dinner/901 No More"
3/14/2025
Show notes: On this episode I do a few interviews with some of the Mid-South Cartoonists Association members. I recorded at their March monthly dinner gathering at Garibaldi's Pizza- first I talked with That Katie Jones about The Rogue's Gallery at Centerpoint Toys & Games. and then I caught up with MSCA prez Kevin L. Williams about art goings on around the M-town, including a special "shocking" announcement of a new MSCA art show at Germantown Community Theatre.
The MSCA meets at the Garibaldi's U of M location on the first Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm. The next gathering is on Tuesday, April 1st! The meet-ups are free and open to the public, but be sure to bring a few bucks to order off the menu and some art to show around.
The following night after work I stopped by 901 Games to discuss Con Cards with the card game's creator (and longtime MSCA and NCS member), Greg Cravens. Greg can be found there on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm, and can be spotted at many local conventions selling Con Cards and teaching event attendees how to play the game. A new MSCA expansion deck is in the works!
In the news section at the end of the episode I fill you in on some \S/uper news about our long time friend Mike Norton's new "Krypto The Super-Dog" comic series and his recent Comic Geek Speak podcast appearance on episode 1997. Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton is set to debut on June 18, 2025 from DC Comics.
I update you on my recent sketchcard gigs for RRParks Cards, and share some not so super news about me no longer working at 901 Comics. Yep, I was let go just a couple days after these interviews were recorded, so I'll be promoting 901 no more.
Oh, speaking of sketchcards, don’t forget that I have hand-drawn sketchcards for sale at The Cellar out on Bartlett Blvd. All cards are done in markers and are $35ea. More of my art is for sale at the DeSoto Arts Council in Hernando, MS.
In this episode I also include a promo for the Comic Book Central podcast. The show's host Joe Stuber interviews actors, writers, producers, directors and others who have bring comic book properties to life on TV, Broadway, film, video games, live events and beyond!
I honestly don't know what my next day job is going to be... so "Stay tooned!"

Episode 75 - "Memphis VS Zombies"
2/26/2025
Show notes: On this 75th episode I sit down to talk to local comics creator Ryan Ladner about his recently released 1st issue of "Memphis VS Zombies". Ryan had a successful Kickstarter campaign for this new Thrill Comics zombie comic series set in the M-town. I caught up with him out at 901 Comics East for his second signing of the weekend. I was able to pick up my Kickstarter rewards in person at the comic shop, and talk toons with him for a bit.
From the Thrill Comics website: "Memphis vs. Zombies is our thrilling flagship comic that blends Memphis charm with undead chaos. Follow Walter, B.B., and a cast of quirky characters as they navigate a zombie apocalypse in the heart of the Bluff City. Packed with humor, action, and heart, MvZ is a fun and fantastical adventure you won’t want to miss!"In this episode's news section I discuss details on such events as our next MSCA dinner, Rogue's Gallery at Centerpoint Toys & Games in Millington, upcoming art shows around town, Trolls at the Botanic Gardens, local comic cons, submission details for our next "The Good, The Bad, and the Sketchy" zine, and more.
I also wish Joe "\S/tuberman" Stuber happy anniversary for 11 years of his "Comic Book Central" podcast, and the CGS crewa happy 20th anniversary of their show "Comic Geek Speak". They celebrate 20 years of podcasting on March 25th, and will have a free in-person celebration ("dysfunctional geeky family reunion") up in Reading, PA this March 29th (click HERE for details).
Congrats to both shows, and I'm excited to finally make it to 75 episodes of "Drawing Funny"!

Episode 74 - "Diamond's In The Rough"
1/19/2025
Show notes: Of course on the day I posted my last episode the news broke about Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc. filing a Chapter 11 petition for bankruptcy, and TikTok went dark just before I could finish this episode. Earlier this week I sat down with my business major and comics fangirl wife Nicki to talk about how this all could affect the comics industry in both negative and positive ways. We speculate on the possible upcoming imposed tariffs from the incoming administration and what that might mean for the printing industry- especially those that do self-publishing and/or Kickstarter campaigns for comics and books. Just how could it affect the already inflated price of comics..?! We also discuss my days of self-publishing and dealings with Diamond, as well as news about new Barnes & Noble brick & mortar stores coming, and what is #BookTok and how it is used by book fans and retailers. We exercise our First Amendment Rights quite a bit and express our opinions on how the upcoming TikTok ban (or sale) can/will affect book sales and other businesses- especially smaller businesses and content creators. I also yell at my cat Lex for being a jerk...it happens. The news was constantly changing for Diamond and TikTok as I was editing and publishing this episode. I don't have a lot of faith in our government, foreign governments, social media companies, or corporations in general to do the right thing, but and all we can do right now is wait and see how it all plays out. 2025 is definitely going to be some concerning times for comics creators, publishers, distributors, retailers, and us fans.
“Stay tooned!” (and read a book!)

Episode 73 - "News And Resolutions"
1/14/2025
Show notes: I've got some news and a few of my resolutions to share with you on this solo recorded episode.
It's been cold and snowy around here in the mid-south, but the snow ended and the sun came out on Saturday in time for the grand opening of the new Bricks & Minifigs location in Hernando, MS. They had an amazing turnout at the event which included a free limited edition LEGO minifig, cotton candy, cookies, cake pops, caricatures, costumed characters, the DeSoto County Ghostbusters' Ecto-17 car, Muppets, and more! My wife Nicki and I were there with the MSCA's Kevin L. Williams and Greg Cravens -and City of Hernando Mayor Chip Johnson stopped by, too. (Kevin and Tammy Thorn on Episode 69 – “Leg Godt = Play Well”.)
Later this month we’ve also got our first Mid-South Cartoonists Association Sat-Art-Day of the year back out at 901 Comics East on Macon Road on January 25th from 10m-2pm.
Our next MSCA Monthly Dinner Gathering will be on Tuesday, February 4th from 6-8pm at Garibaldi’s Pizza off Walker Avenue near the U Of M.
One of my resolutions is to better promote my art and my podcast, as well as other artists and podcasts. So, I've got a special offer! I am now offering free promo spot airtime on the "Drawing Funny" podcast. MSCA members and any events or businesses that support the Mid-South Cartoonists Association are welcome to send in their 15-30sec promo spot as an MP3 file. It can be to promote your art project, event appearance, Kickstarter campaign, commission availability, website, art sale, etc. Don't know how to record a commercial..? That's okay- just send me your info and he'll read it in one of the podcast's upcoming news segments. Just remember, "who/what/when/where/why/how much". I'm also looking to do promo spot swaps with other podcasts. For those commercials up to 60sec are good to submit. If you'd like to discuss your event or project in person, or be a featured guest on the podcast let me know and I'll get back with you to schedule a recording time and place.
Send your MP3 formatted audio files and/or news/press releases to podcast(at)drawingfunny(dot)com.
Click here to listen the latest "Drawing Funny" promo on Spotify or go to www.drawingfunny.com. You can also download the two latest MSCA Year End Review episodes and hear just how busy of a year 2024 was for the group and our membership!

Episode 72 - "MSCA 2024 Review Pt. 2"
1/6/2025
Show notes: This is part 2 of my 2024 MSCA year end wrap-up review conversation with Mid-South Cartoonists Association president Kevin L. Williams. Kev and I pick up where we left off on "Drawing Funny" Ep. 71 discussing the very busy year our local cartooning group experienced in 2024.
The MSCA and its members were a part of numerous art shows, festivals, conventions, gatherings, and other events in and around Memphis and the mid-south area- plus created new MSCA "The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy" zine issues and "Drawing Funny" podcast episodes (and a new DF promo spot) for folks to check out.
This was probably the busiest the MSCA and its members have been in years, and 2025 doesn't look like it's gonna slow down any!
Our first MSCA Monthly Dinner Gathering will be this Tuesday, January 7th from 6-8pm at Garibaldi's Pizza off Walker Avenue near the U Of M. Later this month we've also got our first Sat-Art-Day of the year back out at 901 Comics East on Macon Road on January 25th from 10m-2pm.
Be sure to follow the MSCA's socials and website for where else the cartoonists association and I will be in 2025. I went solo to many shows, so thankfully all my con tables were near a restroom this year, and there was even a defibrillator behind me at one event. It was good to have all my health issue bases covered as I got back into doing cons again in 2024!
Hope to see you around the M-town and mid-south this year. Now, if you'll excuse me I've got to go pee...again.

1/5/2025
Show notes: This is part 1 of my 2024 year end wrap-up review conversation with Mid-South Cartoonists Association/MSCA president Kevin L. Williams. Kev and I grabbed some dinner and then discussed the very busy year our local cartooning association experienced in 2024. You can find the second half of our 2hr toon talk on Episode 72 - "MSCA 2024 Review Pt. 2".
We give our thoughts and recollections of 2024 art shows, festivals, conventions, gatherings, and other events in and around Memphis and the mid-south area- plus the new MSCA "The Good, The Bad, And The Sketchy" zine issues and "Drawing Funny" podcast episodes created in 2024.
