The year 2025 brought so much change into my life. When I look back over the year as a whole I remember a lot of hurt and disappointment, but also a lot of growth and healing and learning. For me it really was the year of new opportunities. I went into the year of 2025 with the mindset of being open to new opportunities, of looking for and accepting them as they came into my world. I would repeatedly ask myself “Am I using fear of failure as an excuse to never take action?? What does this mean? What does this make possible?” I learned a lot about myself, about what I wanted, who I wanted to be, and how I want JohnnyBoy to show up in the future. In 2023 I began putting themes to my overall upcoming year. A guiding idea of how I would operate throughout that year and what filter I would use when making decisions and taking aligned actions. 2024 was The Year of Events and 2025 was The Year of New Opportunities. Both years saw massive growth in my mindset, my business moves, and my connections because I would constantly ask myself "What does this make possible, and does it line up with my theme for this year?" 2026 has a theme as well and I will dive into that in an upcoming episode but for today I want to dive into assigning a theme for your overall year, and how that helped me in 2025 The Year of New Opportunities. Early 2025 I forgot I am a creator, but by the end of the year I had found that joy again and tapped back into the gift of creating. Moving into the new year I am committed to being intentional with my marketing efforts when it comes to my products and services. This means I need to look at what I have been doing (not much in recent years), what I haven't been doing (being consistent), what I need to continue, and what I need to stop. I sat down and did an audit of my marketing over the past 2 years and came to the conclusion of what I need to focus on moving forward into 2026. The weekend following Mr Olympia I went to Los Angeles California to take part in Los Angeles Fashion Week produced by Art Hearts Fashion. This would be my 5th time volunteering backstage with Art Hearts Fashion and it was one of the best shows I have been part of, including 2 I attended as part of the audience. Walking in backstage was like a mini family reunion; seeing all of the staff, photographers, models, and other volunteers I had seen or met with at previous shows. This was a chance to reconnect the sort of family that only forms at events. 3 days of helping designers left and right, I was moving chairs, I was carrying cases of water, I was herding models, organizing clothing and accessories ....I was in my element. Coming out of 2024 The Year of Events I had to decide what I wanted the theme of 2025 to be. After much thought, prayer, and introspective it became clear something big would be on the horizon for my life. Putting that into action, and backing it up with belief the entire way, I decided the theme for 2025 would be The Year of New Opportunities. I knew I would be looking for new opportunities everywhere I went, that I would be open to moving far beyond my comfort zone, that I would be leveling up in multiple areas of my life. I knew I be experiencing new opportunities throughout the entire year, and boy was I right. Before Las Vegas was even on my radar. Before the day job offer came through. Before my dogs health issues started I had a deep since 2025 would bring many changes to my life, and I thought I was ready it. 2024 was the first year I themed for my life; I called it The Year Of Events. After years of FOMO I decided I would take action, and committed to attend the events in 2024. Despite whatever would come up, I would not let myself talk myself out of attending something I knew I wanted to be at. I put together a plan, started using Notion to track the events, and got out from behind a keyboard to go connect in person. One of the best moves I have made in recent years. It's Mr Olympia week!! The air itself here in Las Vegas is electric, and social media is buzzing with people arriving ahead of the weekend. Karma and Simba were huge parts of my life over the past 2 years, and since losing them in March and April I have felt their absents deeply. In early 2023 I received advice around shutting down JohnnyBoy Studios, placing everything under construction, and relaunching bigger and better than before. Well I did the first part, I shut everything down or let it die out in 2023. Since then I have not pursued relaunching because it was "never the right time" and I always had "one more thing" to do or more important than bringing back any particular brand. Over the years I have launched many different creative projects on many different platforms, and often I would create an email address and landing page for each. SoCal Live Music Review, 75 Hard Daily, & JohnnyBoy Studios to name a few. This led to me having many email inboxes, landing pages, hosting, URLs, etc. and trying to manage it all. In 2023 I shut down most of these pages in the process of focusing solely on JohnnyBoy Photos and the rebrand. With showing up so many different places and platforms on the internet I decided I wanted one central place people could come to while I rebuild. One place they could come from any podcast, any YouTube video, any mailing list, any landing page and still be able to contact me. Also that one central place would show the other platforms they be unaware of! This all led to me creating a static contact page I would be able to redirect to no matter what platform or hosting I had live at any given moment. In this episode I walk through in detail the process of creating the static contact page, the platform I chose to build it on, and how I am utilizing it today. Something I heard almost all of 2024 was the viewpoint that starting something new was equal to starting over, and starting over from zero. As we move into the new year can we be done with this limiting belief?? I know we may not ever fully eliminate it from our own internal operating systems, but I will be the first to tell you starting over doesn't mean starting over. You go with you. I once heard someone say “Who you are will set you free” and I fully believe that. It has taken me a while to come to terms with this, but when you stop running from what sets you apart and instead embrace it, so much good can come into your life. Your unique advantage is what sets you apart. Chances are good your unique advantage has followed you throughout your life. We are the sum of our experiences, who we are now is because of what we experienced yesterday. This episode is all about finding, and embracing, your unique advantage in life and using it fully.
