The Say Report

Finally after many years and false starts Devon and Sejohn are ready to discuss Martin Scorsese's film adaptation of David Grann's true crime novel "Killers of the Flower Moon." As a bonus, since this is the first project featuring newly minted Academy Award Winner for Best Action Brendan Fraser it makes perfect sense for it all to happen during Brendan Fraser History Month. However, before we can discuss the film, we have to discuss the leaps and bounds that have occurred in these early days of the third wave streaming wars. Especially since in the two weeks that we first broached the topic lines have been draw in the sand and alliances formed revealing who will be working together in an attempt to find themselves the definitive king of streaming entertainment.

We're taking a break from Brendan Fraser History Month so Devon can have a much needed self-care Sunday, so we present to you this Time Capsule episode where Devon and Sejohn take a trip back to the “Barnyard” and use the Nickelodeon film that would go on to spawn a 52 episode television series as a jumping off point for a discussion about Nickelodeon’s business practices, the way that parent’s reacted to the channel, and how their approach to animated films effected the industry.

Welcome to Brendan Fraser History Month 2024 where we are kicking off the festivities with a discussion about the third season about the streaming comic book series that could “Doom Patrol” Of course before we discuss all of the depressingly fun things that occurred in the third season of Doom Patrol, from death, to diagnoses, to death robots, we must first shed some light on the current streaming entertainment landscape and how the market has shifted in the five years since the series premiered and the three years since the third season aired.

Devon had something come up this week so we are recording later than usual with the addition challenge of having a hard out so that Sejohn can ensconce himself in culture. Even with that in mind the Say Reporters are able to lightning round through some topics and might even have an explanation for what FOMOOCon is and how Devon’s case was cured.

In this month's Very Special Episode the Say Reporters are on their way to Port Chester University to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the film "PCU." Will they be able to solve if this film has been buried by time or just forgotten? Either way they will do what they can to explain how this film became an important moment for their generation, even if its message wasn't as prescient or original as the script and its characters would have you believe. Devon has been participating in a personal social economic anthropologic experiment over the past week and is excited to share his findings as it relates to topics we have been covering the past few episodes regarding nostalgia and collectibles. Sejohn then seizes the opportunity to share his thoughts on why nostalgia isn’t working as the killer marketing scheme it once was a few years ago while also sharing his thoughts after trying out the demo for G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra on Steam.

Devon’s nearly sixth month dental ordeal has finally come to a successful conclusion, just in time for him to learn about and treat a double ear infection. Not to be one upped, Sejohn is ready with a report of another story that recently came to an end in the WWE related to Cody Rhodes After that we do a brief review of some playing cards, discuss a new video game that feature America’s favorite babies that gotta do what a babies gotta do: The Rugrats, and finally we close things out by recommended “Fallout” and “Tulsa King” for those looking for something new to watch on streaming.

After our week off while one of your host-companions was recovering from illness we explore the definition of a Dive Bar, the sorted world of Collectibles and the reseller market, and share our opinions on “X-Men ’97” now that four episodes have been made available.

It’s not an April Fool’s Joke, in our latest episode we are delivering a time capsule recorded on 2/29/2024 of us celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Weezer’s first full studio album “Weezer” or as it’s more colloquially known The Blue Album.

In this double feature Very Special Episode inspired by our Quizmaster General Will Fournier. Your Host-Companions Devon Decker and Sejohn Serowik take a look at the unlikely zombie film duo celebrating their 20th anniversaries in 2024: Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" and Edgar Wright's "Shaun of the Dead." The last three days before recording Devon saw three new to him films and it is his intention to discuss those three films. The only hurdles he'll have to clear first are Sejohn wanting to share his thoughts about Artificial Intelligence after the release of another film this past week, Ever present thoughts about the fountain beverage offerings of 7-Eleven, and his utter exhaustion after waking up early to bring people to the train station for a 7:30AM departure.

This episode we are excited to get to our St. Patrick celebrations but Devon is still making time to discuss how the latest Wayforward Contra game is potentially changing the history of the franchise. Then Sejohn has some theories about the future of streaming and online entertainment offerings as he has noticed a shift towards more sports offerings on Disney+ and Netflix and more and more YouTube personalities walking away from the platform to either retire or expand their creative horizons

This week’s episode of the Say Report since we are recording on MAR10 DAY we take a look at the current state of the gaming industry from the latest releases dates and demos from Nintendo, Sony’s end of life announcement, and some praise for the model that helped make Microsoft relevant again. After that Devon shares his thoughts about the new slate of Fall shows that actually ended up premiering this past February and how the shows are fairing after the standard four episode test. Finally we take a brief moment to join with the rest of the world to honor the many contributions of Akira Toriyama after his passing.

This week’s episode is dedicated to the Little League Centerfielder who lead Sejohn’s team to victory in his youth and to honor him we have a discussion about how we each spent our 2024 Leap Day. Then Devon shared the news article that has been following him all around the internet and other news sources about a former well known actress finding financial stability by joining OnlyFans. Sejohn takes that as an opportunity to discuss the new emergent trends on YouTube as we see creators retiring from the platform or adapting in an attempt to survive.

Picking up where we left off three years ago when we were young and full of hope for the new Mighty Ducks series premiering on Disney+. For its 30th anniversary the Say Reporters jump back into the world of The Mighty Ducks for a very special episode discussing why D2 The Mighty Ducks Seems to be the most beloved of the franchise despite possibly being the weakest entry overall when judged as a film. The future of Hollywood and its marketing machine land squarely in our crosshairs in this episode of The Say Report as we discuss how we got here, how it compares to the Hollywood of the past, and ways that it could be fixed in the next few years. Then we discuss Video Game Demos focused through the lens of Wayforward’s new Contra remake and how the world has reacted to the work in progress build of the game . Finally, your Say Reporters Popped Themselves using Funko’s website leading to interesting finds about how we see ourselves and each other.

This episode sees your host-companions discuss what can be learned about media consumption after the record breaking viewership of this year’s Super Bowl. We also discus how media is changing and evolving to better incorporate the internet as a tool. From there Devon finishes his play through of the “Silent Hill: The Short Message” and he and Sejohn discuss where the missteps may lie with that presentation. Finally, we take a look at “Madame Web” and what it might mean not only for the Sony Spider-Man Universe but the enterprise of Superhero movies in general

This episode Devon makes better than good on his promise to get hyper caffeinated and discuss the first four episodes of NBC’s new sitcom “Extended Family,”while Sejohn does the responsible thing and re-opens the discussion about Luke Combs cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” in light of its performance at The Grammy’s last week. After that there is a brief discussion about the latest antics of Larry David and Devon shares his thoughts about the first two chapters of the latest entry into The Silent Hill Franchise, “The Short Message”

We return from our brief hiatus where Sejohn was in Park City while Devon was building various projects with the intention to discuss all of the things that have been going on in our lives over the past few weeks. Surprisingly a big part in both of your host-companions stories has been the emulation of old gaming hardware to play some games we have missed in our lives or have been nostalgic for. Additionally we discuss the current state of cinematic and streaming releases of films, some of the stranger reactions that have come from the Oscar nominations, and the future of late night television, before culminating in our promise to discuss Extended Family and the latest Silent Hill release next episode.
