Antichrist (2009) with guests Jeffery Owens & Krysta Curry

1/29/2024
The podcast gets slightly elevated as we bring on two guests, Jeffery Owens and Krysta Curry, to discuss Lars Von Trier's controversial movie "Antichrist". We cap off our "self-destruction" block of movies with this one, or we smash it in the dick with a log of wood, depending how you look at it. This movie is notable for being one open to wide and various interpretations, so we really dig into the soil of the dark forest this movie resides within to determine what exactly Von Trier is trying to tell us with it. One thing we can say for certain: Chaos does indeed reign. The featured band for this episode is Arizona's doom wizard's Goya with the track "Satan's Fire". Vanishing Point (1971)

1/23/2024
For part 3 of our "self-destruction" block of movies we are hitting the great American highway of yore as we talk about 1971's cult hot rod movie "Vanishing Point". We join Kowlaski on this disastrous mission to get a white Dodge Challenger from Colorado to California, poppin' bennies, out smartin' smokies, and meetin' nudie biker cuties along the way. But Kowalski isn't just trying to outrun the law; he's trying to outrun his dark past. Our featured band for this episode is French death grinders Whoresnation with the track "Everyday Kriegspel". Bad Lieutenant (1992)

1/15/2024
Keeping within our theme of movies dealing with "self-destruction", we revisit the works of one of New York City's finest auteur's, Mr. Abel Ferrara. This time we are discussing 1992's "Bad Lieutenant" a film we collectively regard as a true classic in American cinema. Harvey Keitel stars as the titular bad lieutenant, or L.T., giving a lifetime performance. We have a duo of featured bands on this episode: Indianapolis' World Eater with the track "Burning Season" and Seattle's Streetwalker with "In Fading Light". Man Bites Dog (1992)

1/8/2024
On this episode of Midnight Flix, we are introducing a new thematic series of movies, starting with 1992's morbidly comedic mockumentary, "Man Bites Dog" directed by Remy Belvaux. The theme: self-implosion, or the consequences of hubris, if you will. We tag along with Ben and the gang and witness their wanton murder and mayhem as objective observers...or are we? Our featured band for this episode is Seattle's own d-beat maniacs, Nightfeeder with the track "Cut All Of Your Face Off". The Last Man On Earth (1964)

1/3/2024
On this episode, we return to author Richard Matheson's work for the source material of our cinematic discussion. This time it's 1964's proto-modern zombie flick "The Last Man On Earth", starring classic American horror's most erudite and esteemed god-father, Vincent Price as protagonist Dr. Robert Morgan. Hop in the hearse and take a spin down to the everlasting burning pile of the vampiric-zombie-undead hordes, won't you? And don't forget to pick up some garlic at the local grocery along the way. Our featured band is Oakland's veteran masters of sludge, Brainoil with the track "Dark Eyes Of My Past". Email us at midnightflixpod@gmail.com and follow us on the socials @midnightflixpodcast.

Flixtober: Psycho II

10/15/2023
It's that special time of year again: you guessed it! Our annual Flixtober series is now in full swing. This year, we are doing a rundown of some of our favorite sequels, but not just any sequels. This series is loosely titled "The Terrible Twos" as we are focusing specifically on the second installment in notable franchises. We are kicking things off with a movie we have been meaning to talk about on the pod for quite some time: 1983's follow up to the legendary Hitchcock grandad slasher "Psycho". Norman gets busted from the nut house after 22 years and is just trying to be "normal Norman". But there are folks in the town of Fairvale that have machinations to put our rehabilitated protagonist back in the funny farm. What's a poor boy to do, mother? This episodes featured band is legendary Italian death thrashers Schizo with the song "Manifold Hallucinations". The Terminator with guest Antonio Marquez

9/11/2023
Hey all! It's been a while, but we were on a mission to save the human race in the future and we had to figure out which woman we had to impregnate with the savior of the world here in the present! Needless to say, it's been very frustrating. You didn't think we'd be back, but... On this episode of Midnight Flix, we step a little out of our intended mission statement and discuss a movie which is surely universally recognized as a classic: Jame's Cameron's sci-fi opus "The Terminator". We brought on Antonio Marquez from KCxHC stalwarts Spine to discuss the movie that has become synonymous with our collective fear of being put under the boot of our machine overlords. Morris, You Fucks also makes an appearance on the pod. This episode's featured band is Candy Apple with the track "World For Sale". Cyborg

7/17/2023
On this episode, we discuss Albert Pyun's 1989 Mad Max/Terminator knock -off flick, "Cyborg", featuring a fresh faced Belgian martial arts master, Jean-Claude Van Damme, on the cusp of taking the action cinema world by storm. Playing the vagabond "slinger" Gibson Rickenbacker, our hero takes on a small army of other musically monickered dystopian raiders (lead by the psychotically imposing Fender Tremolo) in a mission to get a seemingly pointless cyborg to safety to transmit information that will re-civilize a plague ravaged post-apocalyptic world. Our featured band for this episode is Prescott, AZ's Ugly with the track "In My Pocket" off their lastest album "Autograph". Q: The Winged Serpent

7/5/2023
Hard to believe it took this long, but we finally discuss our first Larry Cohen movie on the pod! We go back to 1982 and talk about Mr. Cohen's fantastic homage to the big monster movie: Q The Winged Serpent. It features a star-studded cast of top shelf performances by David Carradine, Richard Roundtree, and Michael Moriarity delivering a masterclass performance in method acting as Quinn the bumbling small time crook. And of course, the winged serpent itself, turning the unsuspecting denizens of New York into a three course meal, while nesting atop the Chrysler building. Our featured band for this episode is New York's own filth blasters, Gravesend, with the track "Methods of Human Disposal". It's a real rip snorter of a ride, so you better tune in...or YUL be sorry. This episodes featured band is Stomach with the song "Bleached". 4/18/2023
Adam, John and Brandon perform brain surgery on Wes Craven's 1986 sci-fi slasher morbid rom-com, "Deadly Friend". Another movie we discuss that suffers from an identity crisis and begs many questions to explain its ludicrous plot. If only it was so easy to resurrect your dead girlfriend by implanting a microprocessor directly into their brain. This episode's band of the week is Milwaukee's Convert. Best of the Best

4/10/2023
Hope you've trained for extensive training montages and conditioned your mullets, cause this week we are taking a spin kick to the eye patch of 1989's martial arts drama "Best of the Best". John's not so sure if this childhood favorite is a favorite anymore, but Adam comes away from this first time watch pleasantly surprised. Brandon is not impressed with Alex Grady's fathering skills, and we all definitely can't wrap our minds around what exactly makes this rag-tag bunch "The Best of the Best".
