'FILL YOUR BOOTS' part 2 w/Tim Brooks (Razorcake, YOFC Records, Stockholm Syndrome, Young Offenders, Nerves). LEATHERFACE were a very important band for myself and guest contributor Tim Brooks, they are our favourite UK punk band. We dug into some obscure fact finding to help build a timeline with new first-hand information from band members. This part two covers the second era of the band (1997-2013). We both felt it important to present these facts and information here as a resource or guide. It's guaranteed even the hardcore fans will find out something new here. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed and helped us put this information together. You can follow on IG: @destroybeforelistening TRACKS INCLUDED: J. DBL#14/15 Double Feature

10/17/2023
This episode is a recut pairing of DBL #14 & #15 released in 2021 both with myself and Chay Lawrence. These episodes are topical for the month of October because they both concern the Horror genre. I was very happy with how they turned out and don't feel enough people got the chance to check them out when I'd switched podcast hosting. Anyhow I included a new introduction which goes someway to explaining why I've done fuck all with the podcast for most of the year! DBL#14: The episode here is a look at film, more specifically the 'Folk Horror' movie genre with Chay Lawrence who played in the bands Bob Tilton, Tribute and Coffin Pricks. All of his musical life is discussed at length in Episode #9 if you want to hear more about his background.Chay is also a big fan of the horror genre and October is a good month to discuss this stuff. 'Folk Horror' is usually based around 3 famous Hammer films: Wicker man, Blood on Satan's claw and Witchfinder general. We take things from there and end up with some unusual twists and turns into the 'Found Footage' genre with a focus on Hollow (2011), Borderlands (2013) & Crone Wood (2016). Intro music: DIE KREUZEN - Among the Ruins Outro: DEAD AND GONE - Mary King's Close. DBL#15 'UNDEAD SOUNDTRACKS' This is another episode where myself and Chay Lawrence take a shot at discussing some Horror movie soundtracks. There are a load of films to talk about, too many to take in because there was about another hour of recording which was either just brainstorming or rambling tangents. We start with the obvious and look at John Carpenter's scores then Tangerine Dream's contributions, as well as the classic Herzog/Popul Vuh teaming on Nosferatu. There were a number of Soundtracks from the 90s where bands played a huge role in a films visibility like the Crow. The well curated soundtrack for Return of the Living Dead is also discussed as well as obviously, the group Goblin. There's a bunch of other great films we talk about and share some cool anecdotes. Intro music: DIE KREUZEN - 'Halloween' Outro: ZOMBI - 'Slow Oscillations (7" version)'. Follow on Instagram @destroybeforelistening

LEATHERFACE were a pivotal band for myself and guest contributor Tim Brooks they are our favourite UK punk band. There's general information out there already but we really dug into obscure fact finding to help fill the gaps. We both felt it important to present these facts and information here as a resource. DBL#26 SONNY KAY - 'The VSS Euro tour 1997 + ANGEL HAIR/Gravity records + Punk futures'

1/16/2023
Where to begin... vocalist for THE VSS / ANGEL HAIR / YEAR FUTURE etc. founder of the GSL label and Bottlenekk distribution as well as a graphic designer, art director for Sargent House and prolific digital collage artist. In 1997 The VSS travelled around Europe on the 'Nervous Circuits' tour. Seeing them play here was a total eye opener for me as a teenager. I was interested to know his perspective on touring the UK at that time and seeing the bands here like BOB TILTON / BABY HARP SEAL / STALINGRAD / HARD TO SWALLOW / KITO / EBOLA & RED MONKEY. This is the focus of the first bit of talk before a live VSS track leading into a section about ANGEL HAIR & GRAVITY records. There's a great chunk on this with lots of stories and facts I'd never heard before. The ANGEL HAIR track leads into more philosophical reflections on punk/hardcore & culture. It's a cool wide ranging talk with an awesome figure in the underground scene of the past 30 years. MUSIC: THE VSS - I Cut My Teeth (live at Gilman Street, 3/22/97) ANGEL HAIR - New Rocket YEAR FUTURE - Blundertown (The Birthday Party)

DBL#25 Tony Sylvester (Fabric, Southern Records, The Dukes of Nothing, Turbonegro).

8/29/2022
DBL#25 Tony Sylvester (Fabric, Southern Records, The Dukes of Nothing, Turbonegro). This was very interesting conversation for me, a great window into the history of London post-hardcore band FABRIC. From the origins in 1992, recording the 'Body of Water' album, never finding their place or sound & ending with 'Lightbringer' in 1995. After this band ended he focused on his various positions within Southern distribution (Dischord, Touch and Go, Kranky, Southern Lord records etc.) for the rest of the 90s until joining THE DUKES OF NOTHING (featuring IRON MONKEY/ORANGE GOBLIN members). With this group he toured and released the album ' War and Wine' on his Eccentric Man imprint in 2002. Throughout the 2000s Tony was involved in the formation of the AURORA BOREALIS label with former FABRIC bandmate Andrew Hartwell. He also curated and coordinated the ambitious, decade long LATITUDES series of releases (CIRCLE, CHELSEA WOLFE, DANIEL HIGGS etc.) for the Southern label until his leaving in 2010. In 2011 he ended up becoming vocalist for the Norwegian 'deathpunk' group TURBONEGRO recording and touring throughout the 2010s. He currently focuses his time on men's fashion/lifestyle writing and his own AWMS clothing brand. Follow @destroybeforelistening Outro: THE DUKES OF NOTHING - Half Evil

7/26/2022
DBL#24 '90s HARDCORE MIXTAPE side A' - PETE vs PEET (Narcosis, Hard to Swallow, Red Right Hand, Underclass, Burst of Silence). This episode is a slighly different one in that it's half conversation and half music. The focus being on the type of 90s U.S. hardcore that we both loved so much. It was a nice way for both of us to find a common bond and also talk about the bands he did vocals in like NARCOSIS, HARD TO SWALLOW, RED RIGHT HAND, UNDERCLASS, BURST OF SILENCE etc. Some big names weren't included but it goes without saying no 45 minutes would be complete if it didn't include the essentials like LOS CRUDOS, DROPDEAD or BORN AGAINST. There will be a follow on episode dedicated to 90s Euro hardcore which is equally as important but less talked about nowadays. You can most likely find any of these bands on Discogs or YouTube, Soulseek file sharing or via bandcamp in some cases... all of the original physical releases are worth picking up if you find anything interesting? 5/20/2022
DBL#23 - LEE KNIGHTS (Thekevorkiansolution, Koreisch, Slavearc, Frequency Thirteen Records). Having been involved as a drummer in many Sheffield area bands of the past 25 years he has a versatile skill set ranging from death and black metal to hardcore, grind, doom, jazz and beyond. Probably most notable for the frenetic grind of Thekevorkiansolution in the early 00s or the apocalyptic hardcore of Koreisch and controversial sxe metal band Slavearc in the later 90s. Moving past this he became part of the Frequency Thirteen Records scene with more experimental and psychedelic bands like the Unholy Warlock, Drawn of Ichor and Ice Bound Majesty. Most recently he has played in doom band Blind Monarch and Out Ink which is his latest more experimental Prog-jazz project. Follow @destroybeforelistening

The past 20 years are the focus here so the contrast between more 'session based' playing against personal work is discussed. 4/8/2022
DBL#21 - NEIL TURPIN This is a part one which is focused on discussing the music that he was part of during the 90s. As an active drummer for the past few decades now Neil has been involved in a lot of bands who evolved from the mid 90s Leeds 6 scene. Groups like Polaris and Baby Harp Seal and the longest running of which he is best known for would be Bilge Pump. There is also talk about the smaller projects like Diesel Versus Steam and Solanki who also provided the perfect fit for intro music to this show from the first episode. There is a part 2 of this conversation which brings everything up to date on the past 20 years of his musical career. 2/10/2022
DBL#19 'Time Travel' w/ Ed Wenn (Dealing With Damage, Stupids, Sink etc). This episode is myself and Chay joined by Ed Shred to discuss some time travel films. More specifically the kind of niche that various paradoxes occur in such as Predestination (2014), Triangle (2009), Time Crimes (2007), Coherence (2013), Primer (2004), Out of Time (2021), ... This was fun to do and Ed (a Sci-fi lover) was hit with some curveballs which we get into. A light hearted discussion about some heavy films and concepts. DBL#18 - Dave Cochrane (Terminal Cheesecake, Greymachine, GOD, Sweet Tooth, Head of David...)

1/20/2022
DBL#18 - Dave Cochrane (Terminal Cheesecake, Greymachine, GOD, Sweet Tooth, Head of David...). Dave Cochrane has been all over many different projects as a bass player since the mid 80s in Birmingham. He was briefly in the band ANOREXIA with Mick Harris (Napalm Death, Scorn) before spending time playing in HEAD OF DAVID up until 1989. After leaving that group he was involved in the formation of SWEET TOOTH with Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu etc.). They released a mini album on Earache records in 1990 before dissolving into the avant/jazz/industrial group GOD headed by Kevin Martin (the Bug). This band paired down into the more dub orientated ICE and TECHNO ANIMAL whjch he contributed to in the mid 90s. Dave also helped out in the very early incarnation of Kevin Martin's THE BUG. The 00s saw him taking a break from actively being in any groups but he was touring bass player for JESU which paved the way for GREYMACHINE with Justin Broadrick & Aaron Turner (Isis). During this time he'd also formed TRANSITIONAL before playing in the band TERMINAL CHEESECAKE which he has done so for the past 10 years now. Dave is an all round great bloke and very funny as you will hear. Outro: SWEET TOOTH - Fat City (live) This podcast is free but if you want to support there are some nice slipmats for sale. 12/8/2021
Episode #17 - 'Some Newcastle Stuff' part 2 w/ Graham Thompson. This is a kind of 'case study' of groups I'd had involvement with moving from the fast and chaotic hardcore of ORRIN DEFOREST in late 90s to the formation of the much slower, heavier, doomy vibes of MARZURAAN in the early 00s. Also discussed... learning about production skills and home studio work with the dark ambient drones of R.Y.N. We both look at the involvement in our scene of the time and of course the unavoidable VENOM stories... Please rate, review, subscribe and share this Or follow on Instagram @destroybeforelistening. DBL#16 - 'Some Newcastle Stuff...' part 1 w/ Graham Thompson & Pete Burn

11/16/2021
DBL#16 - 'Some Newcastle Stuff...' part 1 w/ Graham Thompson. This episode is a slight variation compared to the previous series of more formal interviews. I am joined by friend Graham Thompson who has played in many bands here over the past 20 years such as Jinn, Ultrashitinferno, Grace, Zealots, OZO, Ballpeen etc. Chances are at some point you may have even been in a band with him if you live in the North East, UK. In 2020 he released a project called Sea Ninety where he played guitar, drums, bass and sang. Quite an achievement amongst all his other projects goin on. He also records, mixes, masters and produces with his Sounds Schitty facility! We talk about probably a universal theme for kids in the 90s getting into music and the hardcore punk scene. From influential early gigs and exposure to the underground scene, also finding the music and collecting records. How you choose an instrument to play, finding people to be in a band with, playing live, & the venues are discussed. 10/6/2021
DBL#14: The episode here is a look at film, more specifically the 'Folk Horror' movie genre with Chay Lawrence who played in the bands Bob Tilton, Tribute and Coffin Pricks. All of his musical life is discussed at length in Episode #9 if you want to hear more about his background. He is also a big fan of the horror genre and October is a good month to discuss this stuff. #13 Vique Martin (Pirates Press records, Revelation Records, Simba zine/label/distro)

9/1/2021
DBL#13 Vique Martin The path from being a young zine maker in the early part of the 90s eventually led her to move to America and work at Revelation records in Southern California. She left that position after 20 years fairly recently to a new home with Pirates Press records who release mainly street punk and oi artists as well as being a broker for record pressing in the US. Starting in Brighton, Vique moved around the UK turning her Simba zine into a record label and distribution also. I remember ordering records and Simba zines regularly around 96/97 because she always had a great selection during this time. The first record released was in 1994 and since then stuff was put out by groups such as Greyhouse, Texas is the Reason, Ink & Dagger, Danko Jones, and a number of Swedish groups. The label restarted in the 2010s releasing mainly Louisville bands like Endpoint, Elliott & By the Grace of God. If you are in the US Rev still stock some of the Simba releases that are in print. Vique also promoted tours and drove bands around before leaving the UK for Rev in 1998. She also talks about that experience here.. Her early reading about feminism put her on the path towards being able to deal with the heavily male dominated hardcore scene. She has been putting together a book entitled Chicks Upfront: 'Women in hardcore in the 90s' which should see publication next year. Her first book was a collection of work originally published in the Simba zine. Listen past the end track if you want to hear another Rev story and her work as a herbalist with Punk Potions.
