The Trinity Student Managed Fund (Trinity SMF) Podcast is for anyone interested in finance, business or technology. On the podcast we interview some of the most successful leaders in these areas to give students an insight into careers they may wish to pursue. The Trinity SMF was founded in November 2010 and currently has a membership base of over 1,800 students. It set a precedent in Europe as the first student managed fund in the region. When the fund was founded in 2010, it had €30,000 AUM, in the years since, we have seen the fund grow to over €500,000 AUM.

Oliver Wyrsch is the CEO of INFICON, a leading provider of innovative instrumentation, critical sensor technologies, and advanced process control software that enhance productivity and quality in sophisticated industrial vacuum processes. Oliver holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and Business Administration from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH). He started his professional career in 2004 as management consultant with Accenture and Booz & Co. Before joining INFICON in 2018 as President and General Manager of the US Business, he served seven years in various functions at Mettler Toledo in Germany and the USA – last as Head of the Strategic Business Unit Machine Vision Inspection. Fernando Vicario is CEO of Bank of America’s lead European banking entity, Bank of America Europe DAC. He was appointed Chair of the Federation of International Banks in Ireland (FIBI) for a two-year tenure in 2023. Fernando was formerly head of Corporate and Investment Banking for the European Union and head of Corporate Banking for Europe, Middle East and Africa, at BofA Securities. For over 25 years he has worked across multiple roles for Bank of America including head of Corporate Banking for Financial Institutions in Europe and Emerging Markets (ex-Asia), head of EMEA Global Product Solutions, head of EMEA and Latin America Corporate Banking and co-head of EMEA Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking. Scott Lynn is the Founder and CEO of Masterworks, the first platform where investors can buy and trade shares in art. Scott founded his first company at just 15 years old and went on to found, acquire and sell several more companies and tech start-ups throughout his career such as Payability, which has provided more than $6B in financing to e-commerce sellers. As well as a serial entrepreneur, Scott is one of the U.S.’ top art collectors and has built an internationally-recognized collection of Abstract Expressionism that has included works by Clyfford Still, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, and more. Carl Thoma is a Founder and Managing Partner at Thoma Bravo, a leading private equity firm. Dr. Martin Naughton is Founder of the Glen Dimplex Group and Chairman of the Glen Dimplex Supervisory Board. He studied Mechanical & Production Engineering in Southampton, England and worked as an Industrial Engineer and Plant Manager for 12 years. In 1973, he founded the private, family-owned Glen Dimplex. Glen Dimplex now has 23 manufacturing plants worldwide. Martin is also a philanthropist with his wife Carmel and the Naughton family. In 1994, Martin and Carmel founded the private family foundation, “The Naughton Foundation.” Martin has received honorary degrees from Trinity College, University of Notre Dame, University College Dublin, Queen’s University, Ulster University, Coleraine and Griffith College Dublin. He is a trustee emeritus of the University of Notre Dame. For seven years, he served as a member of the Irish Council of State and is past Chairman of Intertrade Ireland. Martin is on the Advisory Board of Citi Private Bank for Europe, Africa and in the Middle East. He is a member of the Provost’s Council, is a Knight of the British Empire (K.B.E) and was awarded the French Légion d’Honneur by the French government. Howard Marks is Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, a leading global alternative investment firm with more than $120 billion in assets under management. Prior to founding Oaktree, Howard spent 10 years at the TCW Group where he was responsible for investments in distressed debt, high-yield bonds and convertible securities. Before this, Howard worked in Citi Corp for 16 years where he served as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager in charge of convertible and high yield securities. Howard is also quite an author.
