From Cockpit to Courtroom: Hear a Pilot's Journey to Redemption After Getting a DUI.

3/8/2024
In this installment of The Corporate Pilot Guy's Podcast, I delve into another segment of aviation that increases safety through prevention by talking to a pilot who was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The guest for this episode is Mac and he shares his experience getting a DUI, possible jail time, court, impact on his family, and losing his FAA medical. Mac was in the process of becoming a professional pilot and had completed up to his commercial pilot's certificate. When he had the DUI, his dreams of becoming a professional pilot were put on hold indefinitely, and possibly forever. The process to get an FAA medical after having a DUI arrest is difficult beyond having a medical exam by a HIMS Aviation Medical Examiner. Mac details the process of getting his medical back, cost involved in getting a DUI, and how the DUI changed his life. This episode is meant to share one person's experience from making a bad decision involving alcohol and driving. Second, to aid in the prevention of making the decision to drive while drunk. Thank you to Mac for sharing his story to help others. Aircraft Pressurization and Supplemental Oxygen

1/27/2024
Rob and Tim discuss how aircraft pressurization works in corporate jets and in airliners. Pressurized aircraft make flight at high altitudes possible and usually flawless. However, things can occasionally can go wrong with aircraft pressurization, we will discuss the backup systems available to pilots, crew and passengers, when things doesn't work as planned. We will also discuss crew and passenger oxygen systems. As always, if you have any questions about this or any topic we discuss, please reach out to us, we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner (please see contact methods below). Wright Brothers, Curtiss-Wright, Part 61 vs Part 141 Training

12/16/2023
We discuss the Wright Brothers to celebrate the 120th anniversary of their first flight on December 17, 1903. How did the Wright Flyer's wing get its inspiration? Did the Wright Flyer use a catapult on the first flight? Were both Wright Brothers born in Dayton, Ohio? Is there video of the Wright Brothers' first flight? Learn the answers to these questions and more such as why one wing was longer on the original Wright Flyer than the other, in this aviation podcast. The Wright brothers changed the world but also with collaboration with Glenn Curtiss, the Curtiss-Wright Corporation was formed and a spin-off of an employee from that company formed another very well-known, major aviation company that is still going strong today. A listener question from our Discord server asks the difference between training at a part 61 vs part 141 program. That question is answered and so much more. Rob Recounts Recurrent Training, Tim Talks about Tea, and Lots in Between

10/21/2023
Older episodes of the podcast have been getting audio updates thanks to A.I. enhanced audio. This episode has been enhanced by A.I. so let us know if you notice a difference. Rob recently returned home from recurrent training. Training has been spoken about in brief in previous episodes, but this time, we take a deeper dive into recurrent training and the day-to-day training schedule covering ground school and simulator training. Day one of simulator training covers many of the same maneuvers a student pilot would perform on a checkride. Some corporate pilots have checkrides on the last day of training, and other corporate operators do a progressive checkride. Both types of checks are a topic of conversation. PUSH ROLL POWER STABILIZE! What do these 4 words mean? What if the airplane is upset from wake turbulence and put into an unusual attitude? These four words have a significant meaning in UPRT or upset recovery training. Are you buying a plane? Aircraft Broker extraordinaire, Ryan McGill of McGill Aviation gives another airplane buying tip to help you make smart decisions when buying a plane. Ryan can be found at: McGill Aviation (@mcgillaviation) | TikTok TRAFFIC TRAFFIC - TCAS Alerts and more failures in the simulator. Just a few of the many tasks a corporate pilot has to practice and react to at recurrent training. Checkrides make most pilots nervous. Rob talks about his thoughts and feelings on taking a checkride. Tim gives a tip for making sweet tea. Rob talks about free ice cream and so much more. *If you are a real-world pilot or Air Traffic Controller and would like to give a pilot tip that may be aired on the podcast, please record a tip and send it to us. Pilot Shortage and Salaries, Supersonic Jets, Customs, and a Canadian Delicacy

10/7/2023
A multitude of aviation topics are covered in this aviation podcast by The Corporate Pilot Guys. The following topics will be covered: Pilot Salaries The Pilot Shortage International Procedures U.S. Customs CANPASS Airplane Buying Tip The pilot shortage is still ongoing and is expected to go into the future for quite a while. This shortage of pilots effecting the industry is also causing salaries to increase. How many money can a person expect to make starting out at an airline in the United States? What about the salary of a senior captain as a major U.S. Airline? That information and much more on the pilot shortage and salaries will be discussed by Rob and Tim. Airline Pilots and Corporate Pilots have to deal with certain procedures for international operations. These procedures are another topic of conversation, but there is a much deeper level of procedures that will be discussed in a future episode. Supersonic business jets and airliners would be an amazing way to travel just as it would have been for anyone lucky enough to fly on The Concorde. There is a new supersonic aircraft in testing which will be the another topic in this topic-rich aviation podcast episode. Last of all, Rob and Tim both travelled to each other's countries in the week prior to recording this episode. A brief explanation of entry requirements for the United States and Canada are covered. In the U.S., E-APIS is used, but what does a pilot have to do in regards to contacting CANPASS when flying into Canada? Last of all, there is an airplane buying tip from Ryan at McGill Aviation. Ryan gives a new tip each episode to help people who may be buying an airplane. Ryan is an aircraft broker who has experience selling single-engine aircraft all the way up to business jets. The Corporate Pilot Guys are Rob and Tim. Combined, their flight experience exceeds 13,000 hours, and they are both former flight instructors. Written Test Tips | What is Recurrent Training | Axe the Gate?

9/9/2023
HOW TO PREPARE AND PASS THE FAA/Transport Canada WRITTEN TEST/KNOWLEDGE EXAM. Tips on how to prepare for and pass any pilot written/knowledge exam from Rob and Tim are the topic of conversation. Numerous written test preparation programs are on the market. Tim will give tips and practices he has used to pass written tests from his experience taking written exams from Private Pilot all the way to CFI, ATP, and Aircraft Dispatcher exams and many knowledge tests in between. Tim and Rob are both ATP rated corporate pilots with a combined flight time exceeding 13,000 hours and have taken almost as many written exams as they have had birthdays. What is recurrent training? After initial training has been completed for a type rating, a pilot will attend recurrent training. Tim just completed recurrent training a few days before this episode was recorded. Details of what a corporate pilot (or airline pilot) undergoes during recurrent training from classroom and simulator sessions are also a topic on this episode of The Corporate Pilot Guys Podcast. In recent weeks, a pilot for a major U.S. Air Carrier used an axe from his vehicle to chop down a gate at the exit of a parking lot in Denver, Colorado. The pilot was placed on detained by local police, placed on leave, and caused $700 dollars in damages. Was it worth it? The podcast ends with a light discussion of this incident. Alternate Airports, Density Altitude, Bloopers with Unnecessary Bleeps

8/12/2023
Alternate Airports are required in Canada but not always in the United States when flying under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). When are alternate airports needed in the United States, but also, is the closest legal alternate the right airport for you or for your passengers? We discuss a few different scenarios we have experienced in our flying careers. Density altitude effects all aircraft but how do we deal with density altituide in private jets? Paper charts are available to compute performance in private jets, but we will explain a much easier method we use in our day-to-day operation flying corporate aircraft. An airplane buying tip by McGill Aviation and an ATC tip on VFR flight advisories from an Air Traffic Controller will also be heard in this episode. Last of all, a few bloopers from this episode that were cut during editing and unnecessary bleeps were added. No foul language was used in the recording of this podcast!
