Is using automations to sell icky? Or unethical?

Two-way podcast chats is back for another episode - Listen to the episode before jumping in, and then let’s talk more about it - Links at the bottom of this post. I’m beginning to dip my toes in the topics that have been ruffling my feathers for a few years now, as I believe these topics are unnecessarily pushing more people into very manual, and unsustainable business operations that limit profit, limit impact, and are causing so much burnout. Which as you know, is the opposite of what I’m about. The growing trend of automations and selling strategies being ‘ick’, or unethical needs to stop, and instead be celebrated. Because it’s creating fear in people that stops them using the tools that allow them to help more people, while looking after themselves. I have a lot more to share on ethical marketing subjects, it’s something that’s been boiling within me for years now and I’ve never been in the position to speak up about it. Before rebranding Chromatical, my brand was different and I found myself in more of a people pleasing position rather than being able to talk freely about my beliefs. I wanted to keep everyone happy instead of speaking my truth, so I buttoned up on subjects that were important to me. But not anymore. Because if I don’t voice up and become an advocate for this, more people will go down the path of burning out and losing their businesses, and if you know my story, you’ll know why I’m not cool with that. So I’m here to play a role in changing this fear based narrative being pushed. Seeing so many businesses doing everything themselves out of fear of being ‘unethical’, not doing the things they need to in fear of being ‘unethical’, not making enough profit to take time off, because they don’t have the time to do everything they need because they are refusing to use the tools that take the manual tasks off them. It’s awful to watch. The belief that selling, automations, marketing, and everything that helps to lead to making a sale in easier ways is ick… is what is icky! And the fact that it’s becoming so believed by so many who then continue to spread the message, makes others feel that way and it needs to stop. In this episode I talk about: and I am very passionate about the topic of ethical marketing. I believe we've been influenced heavily by a misguided trend that has placed strategy, marketing & automations in a light that is not true. There are invaluable tools designed to help us and help our clients, that should be leant into and promoted more, so that more business owners can help create more impact in the world without breaking themselves in the process. Truth bomb! Your business already uses funnels, even if you don't realise you do

Every single business uses funnels. Even yours. Even if you don't realise you do. So if you're avoiding/intimidated by funnels? This episode will change how you see them and show you exactly how easy they can be because you're already doing them. Whenever you hear me or others talk about funnels, if you're that person who goes and hides, knowing it's something you want to explore one day, but you have all these blocks and keep pushing it to the side... Then this episode should alleviate a lot of the fear of the unknown you might have, and a lot of the stories you've told yourself (or heard from others) about them so you can move forward with them and actually lean into something fantastic that can help your business grow! Because if you're already using funnels (which you are - and I'll give you examples of funnels you're likely using in this episode), then what's adding another level/step/element to something that's already working for you to make it work better for you? It's so much easier to add onto something you already have than it is to start from scratch... so knowing that when it comes to funnels you AREN'T starting from scratch, you're just building on something you already do... it's so much easier. 'Funnels' isn't a dirty word, it's just a part of business. And every business uses them. Even your supermarket! Can the wrong business ideas, actually be the right ones?

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but prior to pivoting down the path Chromatical is on now, I had pivoted in a VERY different direction. Still at my ability energy wise, but a different niche, audience, and offer. I had built EVERYTHING. I'd invested so much time and money in creating it. But I canned it ALL. I want to show you why it can be good to leave things in the past and move on instead of sticking to something even if you've put lots of time, money or energy into something. See, the purpose of starting that thing, doing that thing for a short while, or doing that thing for years, may not have been for you to do it for ever. It may have just had to happen to serve a purpose - not to be the forever thing. A purpose that was there to allow you to grow or explore what was needed to open the doors to the next path. To be the steppingstone needed to bridge the gap between where you are to where you are going. Which you might not know what it is until you do the thing prior to it. You aren’t ever at the final destination. Strategy Sauce - what I built before Unlimited - was smart, but turned out to be just a small stepping stone I needed to walk across in order to find the next stop. It got me closer to where I wanted to go. So remember that you aren't a hero from sticking to what you're doing. You're actually probably failing more so sticking to things you've done simply because you've done them for any period of time. The mistake that cost me over $250,000 in business

If there's one episode I hope you'll listen to it's this. Because I don't want you to make the same mistake I did. In this episode, I share a lot of my story, about how I got where I am today, and what HUGE mistake almost broke my business. Stop creating content when you're not feeling creative

I've got a big and freeing permission slip to stop creating new content, stop batching, stop trying to force creativity when you don’t have it. And to instead, create a business without all the rules, without all the 'need to's', without the pressure. When you create in this new way that I talk about, your content will be substantially better, perform better and get you way more engagement in time. In this episode, I also talk about what to DO with your new 'best ever content' ('best ever' because it was created in your creative zone instead of a forced zone) afterwards, so that in the future, you could literally stop creating new content for long periods of time (if you want) without impacting your sales. Big business learnings from Amazon's purchase of the Robot Vacuum

This rumor is wild when you think about it. I can't wait to share this with you. Amazon purchased the robot vacuum cleaner... and it's (allegedly) not for the reasons you might think. Whether the rumors are true or not, the theory behind it and what I want to share with you today is the same. Data is SO valuable in business. It can save you INCREDIBLE amounts of wasted time, energy and money, and if you're a low energy business owner, saving and energy are the most important things to us. Having data on our audiences, and I mean good detailed data, means that you don't do as much guesswork in business. Which means you get to work less, and get better results. Why I'm anti, 'anti-hustle-culture' (ish)

This is a subject that I've never felt comfortable talking about previously because the old version of Chromatical was very people pleasing and I never wanted to create waves. But the new version of myself in Chromatical is more than happy to speak my mind and share my beliefs when I know it might help others. The movement of 'anti-hustle culture' has really done me a number in the past, but the thing is... I really thrive on hustle... at certain times. Because of the anti-hustle-culture movement that's been building for years now, I leant into it, knowing that I was chronically unwell and didn't want the impact of the hustle to make me worse. But I found it actually did. I felt blocked by it. I felt restrained and limited from it. In this episode I go deep into what I think about hustle culture, and how I now allow myself to hustle but it's done not as you might expect. My business doesn't rely on hustling to survive. It relies on automation to survive. But if I want to hustle because I'm motivated? If I want to hustle for 12 hours a day and work at nights? I DO! And I realllllly do. The podcast is back... and it's different.

I'm VERY excited to be back in front of the microphone again! 🎙️ This time, things are quite a bit different, and this episode, the first one back talks all about it and why it's so important for me to change things up... not just for me, but for you too. It's like a pressure valve has been released! 💥 Before, I used to feel bogged down by all the steps involved in prepping for a podcast episode. If they were scheduled for a low-energy day, it wouldn't have the passion that comes when I record in this new way. It's so hard to fake that energy. But that's all changed now! I've decided to go against the grain. I'm over the "one size fits all" approach to both podcasting and everything involved in growing a business. You know what I'm talking about - the "best practices" that don't take into account the person they're teaching. It's time to break the mold and create our own narrative and that's what this new podcast is going to help you do. My podcast is going to be unapologetically non-linear. It’s LAUNCH MONTH at Heck Yes to marketing The Podcast!!! Every week this month, I’ll be dropping a launch related consultation with all different types of businesses. For the VERY first launch podcast episode, I get to work with Jacqui from White Deer! She’s a graphic designer who wants to know how we can get more people into her evergreen course! Now this is a bit of a back to front episode because we’re actually talking about how to drive sales WITHOUT launching. We’re talking about Jacqui’s evergreen course DIY Design My Biz that she has ALREADY launched a couple of times, but has now turned it evergreen. Evergreen basically means it’s something that people can join anytime, get the value, and because you have already done all of the work, it’s pretty hands off. I wanted to start off with talking about evergreen for podcast month, because if you are in the course or program biz, (or hope to be in the future) you can turn the launches you have already done into evergreen ones that work all year round! I thought by starting off with this before you get all juiced up about new launches, I wanted to talk about using what you might have already launched previously and turning it into something that can work for you all year round. The thing with evergreen is though, (and what we talk about today) is that without big launches that gets heaps of people in all at once, you still need to find ways to get people excited to do your programs year round. We have to work through a lot of ‘no’s to find the right ‘yes’ for Jacqui and that to me is one of the FUNNEST part of consulting, and also the most important. I can’t just say ‘do this…’ it has to be congruent with who your working with or the suggestions just won’t work for them. You have to dig and find the right part that needs the work because it’s not always obvious!
