Strength Culture Podcast: Episode 14 with Carla and Nicholas (@vitalstrengthphysiology)

7/8/2023
Join Carla Robbins and Nicholas Simpson, experts from Vital Strength and Physiology Inc, as they dissect common misconceptions in conditioning for sport, hybrid athlete training, and running form and gait. Drawing from their extensive experience working with national teams, Olympic athletes, and diverse sports backgrounds, they debunk myths and offer practical insights to optimize performance. The jury is out: most coaches severely lack an understanding of the “C” in “S&C”. In this episode, Carla and Nicholas explore misconceptions such as the tendency to train harder than necessary, the obsession with heart rate zones, and the lack of understanding around Zone 2 training. They also emphasize the importance of sport-specific conditioning, dispelling the belief that endurance training compromises strength gains. Additionally, they delve into the significance of form and gait, discussing how proper training foundations can enhance performance. They will be hosting their course, The Conditioning Workshop, September 2 and 3 this fall in Clearwater, Florida! Strength Culture Podcast: Episode 9 with Darryl Stingley

4/25/2023
“Darryl was born and raised in Pittsburg/Antioch, California, in the heart of the Bay Area. He grew up playing baseball and studying martial arts, but it wasn't until he discovered parkour at the age of 12 that he found his true passion. Inspired by comic books and graphic novels, he saw parkour as a way to become the real-life embodiment of his favorite superheroes. Darryl's dedication to parkour led him to move to LA in 2012 to pursue a career as a professional athlete. He trained hard and quickly became one of the best in the business. However, his dream was almost shattered in 2014 when he suffered a major knee injury at an international parkour competition that could have been career-ending. Undeterred, Darryl used the setback as an opportunity to grow and innovate. In 2015, Darryl founded his own team, Sqvadron, and began creating his own films and videos to document his parkour journey. He also became a filmmaker himself, using his camera to capture the beauty and artistry of the sport. Darryl's videos became hugely popular, and he quickly gained a following of fans who were inspired by his creativity and passion. In 2016, Darryl moved back to the Bay Area and began working with a gym known as Apex NorCal, which was focused on parkour and ninja warrior training. With his keen eye for design and his love of innovation, he partnered with the owner to redesign the space and curriculum to become more parkour-oriented. Within a few years, he had created a haven for parkour athletes in that space, and his reputation as a parkour innovator continued to grow. However, the pandemic led to the discovery of major moral differences between Darryl and his business partner. As a result, he immediately stepped away from the gym and all that he had built. Seeking a new path forward, he began traveling and eventually came to visit Chris and the whole Move Lift Live crew, who were introduced to him by his close friend and mentor, Carl Paoli. Darryl's journey has been one of passion, creativity, and innovation. Despite the setbacks and challenges he has faced, he has remained dedicated to his love of parkour and his desire to inspire others to pursue their dreams with the same level of dedication and enthusiasm. As he continues to grow and evolve, Darryl will no doubt continue to make his mark on the world of parkour and beyond.” @iamwavezilla
