My life is full of abundance and prosperity. *abundance (n.) 豐富 *prosperity (n.) 繁榮興盛 例句2. My life is full of blessings and gratitude. *blessings (n.) 祝福 *gratitude (n.) 感恩 例句3. My life is full of passion and purpose. *passion (n.) 熱情 *purpose (n.) 目的 (二) I am grateful for …. 我很感激 例句1. I am grateful for the blessings in my life. *be grateful for 感激 例句2. I am grateful for the kindness and generosity of others. *kindness (n.) 善意 *generosity (n.) 慷慨 例句3. I am focusing on the positive things. *positive things 正面的事 例句2. I am focusing on the bright side of things. *bright side of things 正面的事 例句3. I am focusing on the blessings in my life. * blessings 祝福 (二) I am choosing to V 我選擇去做… 例句1. I am choosing to see the good in every situation. * see the good 看到美好事物 例句2. 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/user/ckrvdk6whg2rj08931q1t5fpe/comments 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師! 這一季我們來學習正面的英文常用語，當你把英文正面用語融入你的學習中，你就能得到意想不到的好處。我們一起來用英語提升心情、建立信心、減低壓力、表達感恩心並且增強動力，讓學英文為自己帶來幸福與歡樂。 第一集我們挑幾個祝福大家幸運Good luck的用語，要祝福別人，我們要認識一些常用的字彙，像是幸運(luck)、正面氣氛 (good vibes)、運氣(fortune) 、祝你好運(break a leg)。 (一) 用luck 來表示祝福 我們可以用luck 在一般日常生活的場合， 有人要參加考試，要面試、或是要開始一個新案子，或是展開人生的不同里程，或是要進行手術都可以用luck這個字。 例句1: I wish you best of luck. 我祝你好運。 例句2: Best of luck to you! 祝你好運。 那這種輕鬆、隨性的方式也可用Best of luck to you! 例句3: Good luck with everything! 一切都順利! 我們也可以用luck和加上everything這樣是不是蠻順的，就變成Good luck with everything. 祝一切都順利。這是一種很友善、正面的表達用語，我們這樣說時後，就能夠讓聽到的人得到我們對他們的鼓勵、或者是支持或祝福。 (二) work out 發展、發生 例句1: I hope everything works out for you. 我希望一切都發展的順利。 例句2: I hope everything works out in your favor. 我希望一切都發展的順利。 用favor 表示幫助或是有利，用in your favor 就是對你有幫助有利。 (三) fortune 運氣、財富 例句1: May fortune favor you. 希望好運眷顧你。用favor是對你有好處、有利於，另外，我們用May 是希望什麼事情發生，May +名詞 + 動詞 。May love surround you. 希望愛包圍你。 例句2: May you have good luck and good fortune. 希望你有好運發生。 用May you +動詞… 來祝福別人。 May you have a wonderful day. 祝你一天順利。 (四) best 最棒的 例句1: All the best to you. 萬事如意、一切順利。 例句2: Wishing you all the best. 希望你萬事如意、一切順利。 (五) fingers crossed 祝好運(手指交叉) 我們可以用fingers crossed 來代表祝別人好運，這個的起源應該是跟基督教有相關，因為十字架可以驅魔與趕走壞運，我們的手指(食指與中指)交叉時很像十字架，因而變成祝你幸運的意思。 例句1: Fingers crossed for you. 祝你好運。 例句2: I will keep my fingers crossed. 祝你好運。 這兩句話用fingers crossed 就很好想像是在替別人祈求好運，也就是祝別人好運喔。 (六) Break a leg. 祝好運 從這句話的字義break a leg (斷一條腿)看起來很難想像這是祝人好運，不過如果知道典故就會知道這是好的意思。有一說break a leg 是源自於舞台劇圈中的用語，也是大家的迷信，如果表演時希望別人good luck 怕會招來bad luck，所以就講反話，break a leg (斷一條腿)。所以演變到後來這就變成是祝福的話。 例句1: Break a leg, everyone! 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/user/ckrvdk6whg2rj08931q1t5fpe/comments 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師，這一季我們一起來學習英文慣用語和俚語，如果你懂了這些特別的用語，你就能清楚掌握對話中的內容和意思。 今天我們來看circulate 和cycle 這兩個單字，這是聽眾Paul 想要知道這兩個字有什麼不一樣? 其實，這兩個字中文很像，因為如果我們把circulate 當作循環來解釋，而cycle 也翻譯為循環，那麼這兩個字用法是否相同? 這種中文翻譯相同的單字的確會有很像的地方，不過等會兒大家聽完解釋後，應該比較能知道這兩個單字常用的情境和搭配的用詞有哪些。好，我們現在來看第一個。 (一) circulate (v.) 循環; 流通(遞送); 四處走; 散佈 這個字circulate 若作為循環，是指在一個特定的系統內或區域中它移動與循環。這個字常和血液循環一起用，或或是空氣在某個區域中循環。如果解釋流通，那麼指的是報紙、信件、email 小冊子、雜誌或資訊等的流通，就是發出去給大家。如果解釋為四處走，就是指宴會中有人到處走，到處聊天的行為，那也會用circulate。如果解釋為散佈就是常會和謠言一起用，例如:謠言在某處circulate，傳播開來等等。我們來看一下例句比較清楚。 例句1: The blood always circulates through the body in the same direction. 血液總以同一方向在身體裡循環。 例句2: The school circulated an email explaining what had happened. 學校傳email解釋發生的事。 例句3: A great deal of information has circulated online and on social media about COVID-19. 很多有關於Covid19的消息在網上傳開來。 例句4: These vents allow air to circulate throughout a basement. 通風設備讓空氣在地下室流通。 例句5: We urge you not to forward or circulate rumors about COVID-19. 我們呼籲你不要轉傳或是散播有關Covid 19的謠言。 (二) cycle (v.) 循環; 騎腳特車 (n.) 週期; 循環的週期 這個單字的第一印象是名詞就是把cycle 當週期，例如:我們說惡性循環就是vicious cycle 也可以用vicious circle，而大自然中的水循環就是water cycle、生命週期life cycle或是用在商業中billing cycle帳單結算週期，business cycle 景氣循環或經濟週期。 用cycle當動詞，第一個會想到騎腳特車，例如: cycle to work 騎腳踏車去上班。不過，cycle 當循環時是如何使用的呢? 應該是要說cycle 是有週期性，把一系列相關的事物不斷的重複就可以用cycle這個動詞來解釋。例如: 例句1: He likes to cycle to work. 他喜歡騎腳踏車去上班。 例句2: She is determined to break the cycle. 她有決心要打破這個循環。 例句3: All plants and animals go through life cycles. 所有動植物都會經歷生命週期。 例句4: Economies cycle regularly between boom and slump. 經濟經常在繁榮與不景氣中循環。 例句5: A washing machine automatically cycles from wash to rinse to spin. 洗衣機或自動的從洗到清洗與脫水的循環。 1. 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/user/ckrvdk6whg2rj08931q1t5fpe/comments 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師，這一季我們一起來學習英文慣用語和俚語，如果你懂了這些特別的用語，你就能清楚掌握對話中的內容和意思。 今天我們來看看同學問的兩個俚語，一個是butter up 另一個是a smart cookie， 如果你按照字面來看，應該會覺得這兩個慣用語跟吃的有關係，不過他們的意思真的是字面上的意思嗎?好，我們一起來看看。 (一) butter up 討好；拍馬屁的意思 為什麼這個字跟討好或是逢迎拍馬會有關係呢? 大家來想一下 butter 是奶油，我們會在吐司麵包上塗上一層奶油或是巧克力醬或是花生醬，讓麵包吃起來口感比較好，也比較美味好吃，所以butter up 意思就變成討好或是阿諛奉承的意思。意思就是去please sb去取悅, praise sb讚美, flatter sb讓人受寵若驚。如果你要從別人身上得到好處，你會先說些好聽讚美的話，灌迷湯然後讓別人覺得自己很優秀，然後對方會願意聽你說甚麼或是為你做事，你就達成你的目的了。這樣過度的讚美別人，這樣的意思就是butter up 當討好，就是你很諂媚和逢迎拍馬，就是去百般的討好別人，這樣我們用butter up是不是很好記呢? 好，我們來看看以下的例句: 例句1: I think he is buttering you up. 我覺得他在討好你。 例句2: You’d better butter up your supervisor. 你最好對你的主管巴結一點。 例句3: His coworker is always trying to butter up the boss. 他同事總是試著阿諛奉承老闆。 例句4: Ray is buttering up the boss before asking for time off. 雷在要求休假前，會先阿諛奉承老闆。 (二) a smart cookie 聰明的人 用smart cookie 來形容人的確是不好想像，因為固然cookie 美味好吃聞起來也很棒，但是那畢竟是點心餅乾嘛! 不過，看到餅乾就覺得想吃一口對不對? 是的，所以可以想像一開始cookie被拿來形容是女生，對，沒錯! 但是隨著大家用的越來越廣，a smart cookie 就變成是可以形容男性也可以形容小孩， 當你說別人是a smart cookie的時候，那就是 表示那個人是intelligent, bright, sharp, clever (聰明的) 就是別人非常聰明的人的概念。 例句1: You are one smart cookie. 你是個聰明的傢伙。 例句2: You are a smart cookie. You will figure it out. 你是個聰明的傢伙，你會想出來怎麼做的。 例句3: Everyone knows he is a smart cookie. 每個人都知道他是個聰明人。 例句4: When it comes to business, Linda is one smart cookie. 談到做生意，琳達是個聰明人。 好，看完了smart cookie, 那有沒有tough cookie呢? 有喔! 就是很tough 人，很堅強的人。 我們來複習一下，今日所學的幾個句子，加深大家的印象。 1. 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/story/cl0hs6j1b4jx6082864zuf6xj?m=comment 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師，這一季我們一起來學習英文慣用語和俚語，如果你懂了這些特別的用語，你就能清楚掌握對話中的內容和意思。 今天我們來看兩個常用的慣用語，binge drinking和 binge watching的意思，兩個慣用語都很常見，要懂這兩個慣用語的意思，首先要從binge這個字來看，binge 可以是名詞也可以是動詞，意思是沒有節制地做某事。接著我們來看以下的介紹。 (一) binge drinking酩酊大醉；爛醉 如果binge是沒有節制地做某事，那麼binge drinking 就不能猜到意思就是喝的沒有節制，也就是喝到爛醉，喝到一個不省人事的概念，這樣應該就很好記了。如果把binge 加上drinks 就是喝掛的意思，所以binge drinks就是爛醉。如果binge 加drinker，這樣就變成喝得爛醉的人，所以binge drinkers 就是喝到掛的人。 這樣是不是好記多了。大家一起來看看以下的例句。 例句1: Binge drinking is associated with many health problems. 喝的爛醉和很多健康問題有關。 例句2: About 4 in 5 total binge drinks are consumed by men. 大概每五件喝的爛醉的有四件是男性。 例句3: Binge drinking is most common among younger adults aged 18–34. 喝的爛醉很常發生在18歲到34歲的成人之中。 (二) binge watching 追劇 binge watch (v.) 追劇 既然binge是無節制地做某事，那麼binge 加上watching 就是看電視看得沒有節制，就是追劇，對，就是追劇的意思。一次看好幾集，由於現在網路方便，我們不需要苦苦等影集的出現，所以就會出現有人熬夜追美劇，追韓劇或是追其他劇。沒錯，binge watching就是to watch several episodes of a TV series 。binge watching 當名詞，binge watch 當動詞，是不是也很好記呢? 例句1: Should we worry about binge watching? 我們應該要擔心看電視看太多嗎? 例句2: Is binge watching bad for your brain? 追劇對你的大腦有壞處嗎? 例句3: Binge watching can have a negative impact on your health. 追劇可能對你的健康有負面影響。 例句4: We like to binge watch our favorite shows because it can provide our brains with a feel-good high. 我們喜歡追我們最愛的節目是因為追劇會提供大腦快感。 (三) binge eating 暴飲暴食，binge shopping 毫無節制亂買 我們已經學會了binge drinking, binge watching, 那會不會還有些相關的慣用語你應該知道呢? binge eating (暴飲暴食，應該很多，壓力大的時候或是被拋棄的時候暴飲暴食，沒錯就是binge eating ，還有如果無法控制自己的購物行為那就是毫無節制的買binge shopping。不過，你應該很少聽過binge reading 吧! 這個年頭大家都沒有那麼認真的閱讀了，所以現代人應該很少會有binge reading(狂讀)的現象吧。 大家來複習一下今天所學過的句子。 1. 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/story/ckya7k7la0mvu0977a4p2xocy?m=comment 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師，這一季我們一起來學習英文慣用語和俚語，如果你懂了這些特別的用語，你就能清楚掌握對話中的內容和意思。 (一) go through遭受/經歷 這個慣用語go through 意思有很多種，在之前的episode裡面有提到go through 在上班的情境中，常常用在檢查一遍，看一遍的意思。今天我們來看看在生活中的用語，而且是那種敘述經歷過某事的用法。 例句1: Sometimes you have to go through the storm. 有時候你必須要經歷風暴。 例句2: She is going through some hard times. 她正經歷一些痛苦時期。 例句3: Don’t judge someone before you know what they have been through. 不知道別人經歷什麼時，不要評斷別人。 (二) cabin fever 幽閉煩躁症 這個詞從1900年代就開始存在了，原本是指冬天的時候有人在偏僻的小木屋獨立無援，好幾天都需要待在室內不能出去，這會讓人覺得好像被困住了，哪裡都不能去，久而久之，cabin fever就變成形容一班的狀況，如果有人覺得被關在室內很久不能出去，例如: 生病不能出去，在醫院治病，或是讀書不能出去玩，或是Covid 19疫情下，大家都不太能到處亂跑就可以用cabin fever形容。最近疫情再起，我想cabin fever 應該就會到處可見。 例句1: Do you have Covid 19 cabin fever? 你有沒有Covid19幽閉煩躁症? 例句2: They are suffering badly from cabin fever. 他們遭受嚴重的幽閉煩躁症。 例句3: I feel stuck in the room. This cabin fever is killing me. 我覺得我被困在房間裡。幽閉煩躁症真的煩死我了。 好，我們來學習一下今天所學過的句子。 1. They hated him and they made no bones about it. 他們討厭他，也毫不遮掩的這樣說。 例句2. She made no bones about her dissatisfaction with the product. 她毫不遮掩她對產品的不滿意。 例句3. The CEO made no bones about his plans to lay off employees. 執行長直言他會裁員的計畫。 (二) get boosted now 打第三劑加強劑 最近聖誕節期間，英國政府呼籲大眾快去打加強劑，所以打的口號是Get boosted now! 英國的作法是從Boxing Day 開始寄發簡訊給民眾，要大家Please get boosted now. 快去打加強劑。也可以用Get jabbed now. 意思也是去打加強劑。收到英國朋友寄來的聖誕卡片上郵局也在上面蓋章，蓋的文字就是英國政府推的GET BOOSTED NOW. 快去打加強劑。 例句1. Get your booster shot/dose. 快去打第三劑。 例句2. Get your Covid-19 booster vaccine. 去打肺炎第三劑疫苗。 例句3. If you are not boosted, get boosted. 如果你沒有打第三劑，快去打第三劑加強劑。 好，我們來複習一下今天所學過的句子，這樣你就會很容易的記住這些用法。 1. 留言告訴我你對這一集的想法： https://open.firstory.me/story/ckxq8aljddbve0858nr50zboy?m=comment 大家好，歡迎大家來收聽English Angel 在師大! 我是Angela老師，這一季我們一起來學習英文慣用語和俚語，如果你懂了這些特別的用語，你就能清楚掌握對話中的內容和意思。 今天大家來熟悉一下同事之間常用的慣用語。 (一) heads-up 提醒; 事情或計畫的發展狀況 我們用heads-up 來表示要別人小心，或是事先的提醒，頭抬起來的概念。 例句1: Thanks for the heads-up. 謝謝你的告知。 例句2: If you can, give me heads up before you get here. 如果可以的話，你來前先讓我知道。 (二) brush-off 不理睬別人; 對別人不友善; 忽視 這個慣用語就是像是身上有灰塵或是你身上有麵包屑，你會隨手揮一下把它弄掉，然後就不理它了，所以意思就是不搭理別人，或是無視於別人的存在那種態度。可以分開來看當動詞brush sb off或是合起來當名詞brush-off。 例句1: She gave the new assistant the brush-off. 她對於新的助理不太友善。 例句2: He was so angry that she brushed him off. 他很生氣因為她漠視他。 (三) busybody 愛管閒事的人; 愛八卦的人 當我們用這個字的時候其實隱含的是負面的意思，不是在說一個人多忙，而是再說那個人會時常窺探別人的隱私、喜歡八卦，到處不避諱地問人私事。不過最好不要這樣叫別人，因為說人家是busybody是非常沒禮貌的說法。 例句1: She is such a busybody. 她真的是很愛管閒事的人。 例句2: How can you deal with the busybody neighbor? 你要怎麼對付愛八卦的鄰居呢? (四) cave in 坍塌; 讓步或妥協 天然的洞穴通常久了會崩塌，所以用cave in 可以了解這個慣用語的由來。 例句1: The roof of the house caved in. 房子的屋頂坍塌了。 例句2:Parents may find themselves caving in to their children often. 父母可能常發現他們自己對小孩讓步。 (五) cheesy 劣質的；庸俗的; 假裝的 我們用cheesy 這個字當庸俗的、刻意裝的或是便宜的劣質的是源自於美國的說法，大概是19世紀末學生的用法，不過說實在的，這個字很難由cheese聯想它代表的意思。 例句1: The movie is cheesy. 這個電影很庸俗。 例句2: She can’t stand staying in a cheesy hotel. 她受不了住在劣質的旅館。 (六) chill out 放輕鬆; 跟朋友一起消磨時間 這個用法chill out 跟relax 或是calm down可以替換著用，也可以當成跟朋友以起消磨時間chill out，好玩的是chill out也可以用chill也能代表一樣的意思，是不是很妙呢? 例句1: Chill out! We will get it done today. 放輕鬆，我們今天就能做好。 例句2: Are you going to come chill (out) with us later? 你等會兒要跟我們出去消磨時間嗎? 好，我們來複習一下今天所學過的句子。 1.Thanks for the heads-up. 謝謝你的告知。 2. (去過也做過)有同樣的經驗; 不足為奇 例句1: Been there, done that. = I’ve been there done that. 我覺得沒甚麼新奇的啊 ! 例句2: He has been there, done that. 他有同樣的經驗。 (五) bite someone’s head off 大罵某人; 嚴厲斥責某人 這個慣用語是不是很逼真，看起來像是動物大口咬掉獵物的感覺，所以就是罵人罵到狗血淋頭的概念。 例句1: Don’t bite my head off, please. 請別對我破口大罵。 例句2: His boss bit his head off in the meeting. 會議中他的老闆把他大罵一頓。 (六) blow-by-blow 一五一十地; 詳盡的 這個慣用語的出處是很好玩的，因為用於Boxing (拳擊比賽)，播報員如何將對手一拳一拳(blow-by-blow) 描述給觀眾聽，需要很生動鉅細靡遺地這樣描述給觀眾聽，才會有臨場感，所以blow-by-blow 就變成詳盡的。 例句1: I need a blow-by-blow description of what happened. 我需要詳盡的發生經過。 例句2: The driver gave a blow-by-blow account of the accident. 駕駛對於意外做了十分詳盡的敘述。 好，我們來複習一下今天所學過的句子。 1.
